My Left Eye Can See Through Everything - Chapter 79 - Antique Banquet
“Zhou Yang, I never expected you’d be living here too. If I hadn’t happened to come by today, you’d have kept me in the dark!” Huang Jicheng teased as Zhou Yang stepped out of the car.
“Old Huang, I’ve only just moved here a few days ago. Besides, there’s no need to make a big deal out of it,” Zhou Yang replied. “If I suddenly showed up at your place just to tell you, people might think I’m bragging about buying a house, right?”
Huang Jicheng chuckled and nodded, acknowledging Zhou Yang’s point. As Zhou Yang had said, mentioning such a thing without any context could indeed come across as boastful, and that wouldn’t be appropriate.
While they were chatting, Tian Peng came down from upstairs.
“Old Huang, I heard this Exchange Conference is different from the usual ones. What’s going on?”
Since it was still early, they all sat down for a chat. The three men conversed on one side, while the women gathered on the other.
“I’m not entirely sure of the details,” Huang Jicheng admitted. “But I heard that Boss Zhu, who’s hosting the banquet, decided on it last minute. That’s why it’s so sudden.”
“Apparently, he’s come across quite a few good finds recently, so this conference is bound to be more exciting than usual.”
“Also, this time, besides the regulars from the circle, he’s invited some notable locals.”
Tian Peng was surprised and quickly asked, “Old Huang, isn’t the Exchange Conference usually just for people within the circle? Why invite outsiders this time?”
Huang Jicheng chuckled, explaining, “It’s simple. Everyone is driven by profit, and Boss Zhu is a businessman. Using the banquet as a pretext to invite some business friends is understandable.”
“Some wealthy individuals are often seen as nouveau riche. To shed that label, they need to change their image.”
“Collecting antiques is a great way to do that. Whether you call it pretentious or showy, it’s an effective method.”
“There are plenty of examples like this. Some people haven’t even graduated elementary school, yet their study is filled with books.”
“Those books might never be touched from the day they’re bought until the owner passes away, but that’s not important.”
“The key is for others to see them, to make them feel the person loves learning. That’s all that matters.”
Zhou Yang didn’t quite grasp the intricacies of this, so he simply sipped his tea and listened. He wasn’t concerned about who attended; his focus was on the potential treasures. Zhou Yang wanted to open an antique shop, and he’d need antiques for that.
Accumulating more now would make the shop look better when it opens.
After about half an hour of chatting, it was time to go. They wrapped up their conversation, and the six of them set off in two cars.
Zhou Yang didn’t drive his car, thinking it wasn’t quite up to par for the occasion. Yes, that’s exactly how Zhou Yang felt.
Zhou Yang had previously thought that spending 350,000 yuan on a car was quite high-end, but when compared to others, it was clearly lacking. This is what they mean by different circles; naturally, you see different things.
So now Zhou Yang was considering buying another car. The current one was fine for everyday use, but when attending major events, it just wouldn’t cut it. Just like the other day at Guan Chengru’s place, the hotel entrance was lined with luxury cars. Fortunately, Zhou Yang hadn’t driven there, or he would have been at the bottom of the heap.
Moreover, sharing a car with Ji Lanyan was inconvenient. At the very least, there should be a spare car. Zhou Yang’s plan was to buy a better car for Ji Lanyan after some time. He would keep the current one for himself, and when attending important occasions, he would use the other car.
As the car cruised along the night road, they chatted casually, and before long, they arrived. It was already 7 PM, so there weren’t many vehicles or pedestrians on the road.
The car finally stopped at a manor, located in the suburbs or close to the suburban area. At the manor’s entrance, many cars were already parked. Ji Lanyan held Zhou Yang’s arm, and they followed Tian Peng and Huang Jicheng into the manor.
As for the cash they brought, it was left in the car. After all, this was a banquet, and it wouldn’t be appropriate for everyone to carry bags and packages to the event.
“Old Huang, Mr. Tian, welcome, welcome!”
As Zhou Yang was observing the surroundings, a slightly rough and hearty voice came from the front. Upon closer inspection, it was a man about the same age as Tian Peng, dressed in a suit and looking quite spirited.
“Boss Zhu, you’ve been doing well lately!”
“Let me introduce you, this is…”
After a brief introduction, Zhou Yang learned the name of Boss Zhu-Zhu Xuehua! A rather ordinary name.
Zhu Xuehua clearly regarded Zhou Yang as one of Tian Peng’s younger relatives, so he was quite welcoming. After all, those who could come here would be mingling in the same circle in the future.
After a few casual exchanges, Zhou Yang and the others entered the manor. Since people were arriving one after another, Zhu Xuehua had to stay at the entrance to greet them.
Once inside the manor, Zhou Yang’s gaze immediately locked onto someone-Yu Jinlong!
Seeing this person made Zhou Yang frown. Usually, when this guy showed up, it meant trouble. The key question was, why was he here?
Zhou Yang couldn’t figure it out, but it was simple. As Huang Jicheng had mentioned earlier, some nouveau riche wanted to change their image by entering a circle. Pretending to appreciate culture was the best choice.
At this moment, Yu Jinlong also noticed Zhou Yang. Their eyes met-one with a mocking expression, the other with resentment.
Fortunately, given the significance of the occasion, Yu Jinlong wasn’t foolish enough to confront Zhou Yang.
Zhou Yang ignored him. Now that he was here, he could relax. It was a banquet, so naturally, there was food and drink. He hadn’t eaten anything since arriving, so he was eager to enjoy the food.
As for Ji Lanyan, she had already left Zhou Yang behind, happily chatting with other women.
“Dad, that’s Zhou Yang, the one who swindled me out of over ten million!”
Yu Chengfu had just finished talking with an acquaintance when he heard his son say this. He looked in the direction his son pointed and saw Zhou Yang.
Zhou Yang’s first impression was that he was handsome, tall, and looked energetic. This energy was reflected in his mood, attire, and hairstyle.
With all these aspects in place, Zhou Yang appeared very spirited and handsome.
“This is an Exchange Conference for antiques. Remember, don’t cause trouble, or I’ll skin you alive!”
Yu Chengfu finished speaking and ignored his son, continuing to mingle with acquaintances. His purpose for attending the banquet was business, or rather, to network with people. As for antiques, he knew nothing about them!
Yu Jinlong glanced at Zhou Yang again, then quietly moved to an empty area and made a phone call.
