My Heart Is Drawn to Jade - Chapter 8
It took a full month for my body to recover.
The ointment had closed the wound on the surface, but I hadn’t truly healed. Even with my exceptional regenerative ability, my chest still ached on rainy days or whenever my emotions ran too high.
Because of that injury, Vansern wouldn’t even sleep with me. Once, when I pounced on him like a starving wolf, he scrambled into his coffin to hide—and forgot to close the lid.
I had no words.
One day, he fed me another few drops of blood and examined my condition.
Relieved, he stroked my head fondly.
“You’re almost fully recovered. Please don’t ever stab yourself with silver again.”
I caught his hand and rubbed my cheek against it, looking up with a smile that was at once sweet and obsessive.
“Sihe, will you ever abandon me?”
He met my gaze. His violet-and-gold eyes held an unwavering warmth and seriousness, and he kissed the corner of my mouth.
“Bloodkin don’t take partners lightly. Once we do, we remain faithful to that one person forever.”
“Tonight, I’ll give you the First Embrace. You’ll become a Bloodkin like me, instead of a lesser vampire. You won’t fear sunlight or silver. And, like me, you’ll be…”
He paused.
“Immortal.”
I froze.
Immortal?
My lips twisted as wave after wave of bitter irony washed over me.
Immortality had been the ultimate goal of the organization that held me captive for more than a decade.
Who would have thought?
The eternal life they’d pursued so desperately was an ordinary fact of existence for Bloodkin in another world.
I had no interest in living forever. Back in my world, every extra day had meant pain and torment.
I looked up at Vansern’s beautiful, beguiling face, at the love and anticipation in his eyes.
He was so lovely.
And so powerful.
My heart suddenly beat faster.
Immortality didn’t seem quite so unwelcome anymore.
