My Contract Husband Won't Behave - Chapter 45
After adding Bo Jiusi on WeChat, Nie Jingzhi began sending him all kinds of sexy photos and explicit messages.
One showed her before the bathroom mirror, a silk camisole hanging loosely from her shoulders, her delicate collarbones exposed and the soft curve of her waist irresistibly alluring.
*Master Jiu, I think this lingerie is a little small. Can you take a look for me?*
At the mall, she photographed herself in a fitting room wearing a red dress with a high slit, its hem reaching her ankles while one pale leg showed.
*I saw this dress while shopping and suddenly thought of Master Jiu’s black suit. They’d match.*
One evening after a shower, she changed into black lace lingerie and sent him a mirror picture.
*Just tried this. Is it pretty?*
In another, she curled on the sofa in profile, lips touching her fingertip and eyes half closed.
*I passed a hotel today and suddenly thought of you.*
Bo Jiusi did not answer a single message.
Perhaps he never looked. Perhaps he did and had no interest.
Every message vanished into an abyss.
Yet he did not block her or warn her to stop, so she persisted every day.
Even shouting at a mountain produced an echo. Facing Bo Jiusi was like facing a wall: no matter how she shared her joys and frustrations, he would not give her so much as a punctuation mark.
Even the warmest heart would go cold after being doused often enough.
Nie Jingzhi tossed her phone onto the sofa and drank some water, growing angrier the more she thought.
She called Jin Song.
“Sister Zhizhi?”
“What does it mean when a man never answers anything you send?”
Jin Song paused. “Who? Master Jiu?”
Nie Jingzhi said nothing.
Jin Song ventured, “Maybe he saw them but doesn’t know how to reply?”
“What is there not to know? If I say I miss him, he could at least say ‘Mm.’ Not one word. Does he think I’m invisible?”
“Maybe he’s… shy?”
Nie Jingzhi sneered. “Him?”
“No, Sister Zhizhi. Master Jiu is that kind of person. If you expect him to say ‘I miss you too,’ of course he can’t get the words out…”
Nie Jingzhi inhaled deeply and hung up.
She stared at the chat, a screen filled entirely by her solo performance.
Fine. Wonderful.
On Friday evening, Jin Song sent a message: *Sister Zhizhi, Master Jiu is attending Su Wanyin’s birthday party tonight.*
Su Wanyin was an A-list actress, the face of Bo Group’s jewelry line, and Shen Xing’s younger sister.
Besides Zhou Ke, Shen Xing was one of the men in Bo Jiusi’s circle.
Between business obligations and friendship, his attendance made perfect sense.
But who in their circle did not recognize the way Su Wanyin looked at him?
Already angry, Nie Jingzhi became inexplicably furious.
She entered her dressing room and selected a conservative, high-necked black gown without ornamentation. Buttons closed the collar at her throat, but the fitted waist created one smooth curve from shoulders to ankles.
She studied herself in the mirror.
Not bad. She looked as though her husband had died and she was attending his funeral.
The party was held at a private villa outside the city.
Upon arriving, Nie Jingzhi lingered beside a veranda column and surveyed the room.
Bo Jiusi was easy to find—the tallest man in the crowd, wearing a black suit, cold and distinguished enough to lower the surrounding temperature.
Su Wanyin stood beside him in a champagne-colored gown, holding a glass and speaking to him with her face tilted up.
He listened without expression.
Nie Jingzhi was about to enter when Su Wanyin stumbled and Bo Jiusi caught her.
Champagne splashed over her hand. She smiled at him shyly and awkwardly.
He released her and handed her a towel from a passing waiter’s tray.
When she accepted it, her fingers brushed the back of his hand. She looked up with a brilliant smile.
Bo Jiusi withdrew unobtrusively and raised his own glass.
Nie Jingzhi saw everything from behind the column.
The anger already pent inside her flared higher.
She turned and scanned the entrance.
A young man in his early twenties was walking in, dressed in a navy velvet suit. His features resembled Su Wanyin’s, though they were gentler.
Nie Jingzhi walked straight over and stopped before him.
He paused, gaze settling on her face.
“You’re Su Wanyin’s younger brother?” Her voice carried an authority impossible to refuse.
He nodded. “Su Chen.”
“A lovely name.”
His ears reddened faintly. “Did you need something?”
“I came alone. Will you be my date tonight?” She laid a hand on his arm, fingertips tapping his cuff.
His ears turned bright red, his voice tightening. “M-Miss…”
“Help me.” Nie Jingzhi leaned closer with a wicked, seductive smile. “I’ll owe you one.”
Su Chen swallowed. “What kind of help?”
She did not answer. She linked arms with him, pressed subtly closer, and pulled him inside.
Though his ears remained red, Su Chen straightened his back and matched her pace.
* * *
Su Wanyin wiped her hand, looked at Bo Jiusi, and lowered her voice. “Master Jiu, you married without even wearing a ring. How is anyone supposed to know you have a wife?”
“What difference does knowing make?”
She swirled her champagne. “Aren’t you afraid your wife will get jealous?”
Bo Jiusi did not answer.
Su Wanyin sipped and studied his profile. “Master Jiu, could it be… you don’t love your wife?”
His fingers paused around the glass.
Su Wanyin took that tiny pause as confirmation and was about to continue when a clear male voice called behind her.
“Sis!”
She turned and saw Su Chen approaching arm in arm with a woman.
The woman wore a high-necked black gown, her figure graceful, her smiling beauty both glamorous and coolly aloof.
Su Wanyin blinked. “Chen, who is this?”
Before he could answer, the woman smiled at Bo Jiusi. “What a coincidence, Master Jiu.”
Bo Jiusi’s gaze darkened on her arm around Su Chen. “Why are you here?”
“Su Chen invited me, of course.” Nie Jingzhi smiled at Su Wanyin. “Happy birthday, Miss Su. Your brother is very handsome.”
Su Wanyin looked between them and offered a hand. “Hello. I’m Su Wanyin.”
Nie Jingzhi did not take it, merely nodding. “Nie Jingzhi.”
Su Wanyin awkwardly withdrew her hand.
Bo Jiusi’s gaze moved from Nie Jingzhi to Su Chen. “How long have you known each other?”
“We just met,” Su Chen answered quickly, ears reddening again. “But it felt like meeting an old friend.”
