Chapter 7
Due to Thomas’s lack of restraint, I went to work the next day feeling utterly drained.
While making coffee in the break room, my eyes were half-closed, oblivious to anyone approaching.
“What happened? Didn’t sleep well?”
I opened my eyes to see Amelia and sighed, “It’s a long story.”
She chuckled, but her smile faded as her gaze dropped.
“What’s wrong?” I touched my neck where she was staring.
“It’s nothing.”
She remained expressionless, simply taking off her silk scarf: “Looks like the mosquitoes got you. If you don’t mind, use mine to cover it up.”
I was momentarily stunned before realizing what she meant, and my face flushed instantly.
Taking her silk scarf, I put it on and tied a knot. “Thanks, I’ll return it tomorrow.”
She smirked, “No big deal.”
Because of this, I turned around and scolded Thomas, but he was probably in a meeting and didn’t reply.
He appeared downstairs at my office after work.
I got in the car, removed the silk scarf, and pointed at the mess he made. “Look at what you’ve done!”
Thomas touched my neck, initially smiling, but when he saw the silk scarf in my hand, he paused and stared at it for a couple of seconds.
“When did you buy this?” he asked.
“It’s not mine, it’s Amelia’s,” I folded the scarf neatly and tucked it into my bag. “I had a client to meet today. Thank goodness for her, or it would’ve been embarrassing.”
Thomas gripped the steering wheel, his voice slightly hoarse.
“I’ll make it up to you.”
“Make up for what?”
“I’ll buy you a few silk scarves, so you can wear a different one every day and make everyone else envious.”
“…”
His serious tone made me laugh.
“Just drive!”
Thomas pinched my cheek and started the car.
I nestled into the seat and saw Amelia walking out of the office building in the rearview mirror.
She looked around and happened to glance in my direction.
Having just returned to the city for work, she hadn’t bought a car yet. Usually, if I drove, I’d give her a lift after work if I was free.
But this time, for some reason, I watched her in the mirror for a long time and, unusually, didn’t feel the urge to offer her a ride.
