Chapter 12
The exemplary Thomas would skip his major classes just to accompany his girlfriend to her electives when she was upset with him.
The imagery of this sentence was so vivid that it made me cough.
I had drunk a bit too much, but my mind was still clear.
I sneered, “Yet this is the same person who chose work over accompanying me to pick out wedding rings.”
Alex is loyal, but he’s straightforward and not good at beating around the bush. If you want to get something out of him, it’s a sure thing.
He let it slip, and now he sits beside me like a child who has done something wrong.
Before this, he had been speaking up for Thomas, saying who could tolerate their boyfriend being so devotedly good to an ex? It’s really hard to say.
“Stop drinking, Thomas will be here soon.”
I glanced sideways, “Does he know that I know?”
“…You two should have a good talk. After being together for so many years, we all know how he treats you, and you should see it too. What’s past is past, people should look forward.”
I shook my head.
If he knew how I found out about Thomas’s past, he probably wouldn’t be saying this.
Amelia showing up already indicated the problem.
She dared to provoke, relying on Thomas’s favoritism-perhaps from the past, perhaps from now.
I don’t believe they haven’t been in contact.
Yet until today, I was kept in the dark.
The most ridiculous part was feeling regret when listening to Amelia talk about her past with Thomas.
This is deceit.
It made my face burn as if slapped.
I suddenly recalled my birthday over a month ago.
It was a weekday, and I was kept for overtime by my boss.
When everyone had left the company, Thomas came over specially to accompany me.
He brought a lot of food, dinner, snacks, cake, and candles.
That night, the entire floor was just the two of us.
I made a wish facing the cake.
Thomas sat across from me, the candlelight illuminating his face brightly.
Moved, I beckoned him over with a finger.
As he rounded the table, I kissed him.
But since we weren’t at home, I didn’t dare to kiss deeply, just a fleeting touch, then hugged him, resting my chin on his shoulder, “Thank you.”
He kissed my ear and said, “Bella, happy birthday.”
I smiled, but then saw Amelia behind the glass door.
She was carrying a cake.
It was that day that I introduced them to each other.
I have forgotten their expressions and state at that time.
I only remember Amelia saying she didn’t want to disrupt Thomas and my world, so she didn’t stay long.
Before leaving, I asked her to take some snacks.
Thomas had bought too many weird-flavored candies.
“Do you want to try your luck? Thomas loves to prank me with these, I never pick the normal flavors… Oh, you might want to choose the pink one, that seems more normal.”
Amelia just smiled while twirling her hair, “I used to buy these candies often.”
She precisely picked out two candies in brown wrappers.
“Those are bitter,” I quickly stopped her.
Amelia held the candies, her gaze drifting, seemingly looking at me, yet as if looking through me at someone else behind.
She said, “For this brand, I only like the bitter ones.”
I was taken aback.
Because I didn’t expect someone else to share the same taste as Thomas in this regard.
“How rare, you actually have the same taste as Thomas.”
Amelia then looked directly at Thomas, “Really? What a coincidence.”
Thomas seemed to “hmm” in response, or perhaps he didn’t.
I don’t know why I remember the details of this memory so clearly, when I’m not someone with a good memory…
Could the problem have been seen back then?
Yet I foolishly thought they were meeting for the first time and introduced them.
I sat on the bench outside Alex’s shop, burying my face in my knees.
God knows how ridiculous I looked recommending candy flavors to Amelia.
