Chapter 15: This Woman Is Cursed to Harm Her Husband!
“No problem,” Qin Dong said. “I can give you a small demonstration. Then you’ll know whether I’m capable. Give me your hand.”
Earthworm held it out doubtfully. Qin Dong grasped his wrist and quietly circulated the Flower-Transference Manual, sending a faint thread of power into him. Under Qin Dong’s direction, it flowed down into his lower abdomen.
Earthworm felt a sudden warmth and widened his eyes. Something he thought he’d lost had returned.
Qin Dong promptly let go. “How do you feel?”
The warmth vanished, along with the sensation. Disappointed, Earthworm looked at him with newfound awe. “You’re incredible, brother. I believe you now!”
“Then pay me.”
Earthworm rubbed his hands and gave him a knowing look. “We’re both men. I know you did all this because you want the pretty widow. How about this? I’ll forgive the hundred thousand she owes. We’ll call that your treatment fee.”
Qin Dong’s face twitched. What did he mean, Qin Dong wanted Yuru? What a ridiculous accusation! He glanced at her; her face had gone red, and she quickly lowered her head.
Embarrassed, he said sternly, “Watch your mouth. Bring out the IOU.”
Earthworm hesitated, worried Qin Dong might take it and go back on his word. Then he looked at his men and felt reassured. They outnumbered him; he couldn’t simply fly away. He pulled a crumpled IOU from his pocket.
Qin Dong checked it and handed it to Su Yuru. “Make sure it’s right. If it is, tear it up.”
She read it carefully, then tore it to pieces. The debt that had tormented her for years was finally gone, all thanks to Xiaodong. She looked at him with gratitude, fighting tears.
Earthworm rubbed his hands impatiently. “The debt’s settled. Time to keep your promise, brother.”
Qin Dong glanced around and spotted something inside the restaurant. “Wait here.”
He went to the shrine of Lord Guan in the corner and scooped a handful of ash from the incense burner. Adding a little water, he rolled it into a ball, then used his power to dry and harden it. He wiped his hands on a towel and sauntered outside, producing the black ball as if by magic.
“This is my family’s ancestral pill for dispelling malignant energy. Take it, and I guarantee you’ll be cured within three days.”
Earthworm stared at the dark ball, as large as a glutinous rice ball. “Th-this really is a pill?” He looked as though he suspected Qin Dong was palming off a lump of dirt.
“Of course. Do you want it or not?”
Qin Dong looked calm, so Earthworm made up his mind and swallowed it. The ball was too large and lodged in his throat. He clutched his neck, coughing and rolling his eyes.
Qin Dong realized he had a problem. If the man choked to death, he would be in trouble. He stepped forward and struck Earthworm’s back, using a third of his power.
The ball slipped down. Earthworm drew a sharp breath and realized his lost vitality had returned.
“Holy crap! Brother, that pill is amazing!” He grabbed Qin Dong’s arm, overjoyed. He was eager to find a few women and make up for more than half a year of frustration.
“Don’t get excited yet,” Qin Dong said. “To rid yourself of the malignant yin energy completely, remember two things. First, no women for six months. Second, stop doing harm. Otherwise your bad fortune will give the energy an opening.”
Earthworm’s face fell. He could grit his teeth and stop causing trouble, but six months without women? That was asking too much.
Qin Dong snorted. “If you don’t believe me, try it.”
Earthworm shuddered. “Brother, does handling things myself count as breaking the rule?”
“No.”
“Good, good!” Relieved, he motioned for his men to leave.
Before going, he leaned close to Qin Dong. “Since you saved my life, let me give you some advice. That widow Su is cursed to harm her husband. Men who get close to her come to a bad end. At least five have died because of her these past few years. Be careful.”
