Chapter 15
After the broadcast, the host gave me a hug.
“Zhaozhao.”
Her beautiful eyes glimmered with tears.
She said, “I hope your path ahead is smooth and always bright.”
I replied, “May we both always shine brightly.”
As I was leaving, I saw a familiar figure at the corner of the stairs, but it vanished in an instant.
By the time I got home, it was already evening.
The room was dark, but as I pressed the switch, the space instantly lit up.
Shi Chuan sat by the table, lifting his eyes to look at me.
His face was left with only a shadow of defeat.
“…Zhaozhao.”
His voice was hoarse, “You looked beautiful on TV.”
I stepped forward a few paces and placed the divorce agreement on the table:
“I had a lawyer draft the agreement. As the party at fault in the marriage, you might have to pay some money.”
He looked at me, silent for a moment: “Can’t we… not talk about this, Zhaozhao? I don’t want to divorce you.”
“If you don’t want to sign, we can go through litigation. I have enough evidence to make the court grant the divorce.”
“Besides, Wen He’s child can’t wait any longer, can it?”
“If that’s what you’re concerned about, I’ll have her terminate the pregnancy tomorrow.”
“Zhaozhao! I promise, I will never look for anyone else again. Wen He and I were just a momentary impulse, you know, I’ve loved you for so many years, I just, I just lost my mind for a moment, got stuck in a rut…”
“Sign it.”
I said softly, “I’ll give you a few minutes to look it over, but if you keep stalling, we’ll meet in court.”
The phone in my pocket vibrated; it was Ji Yan reminding me that five minutes had passed.
I sent her back an OK emoji.
Shi Chuan said nothing, took the documents from the table, and flipped through them.
Just a cursory glance, yet he still signed his name.
“By the way, I bought this house before we got married, so move out soon. I’m going to sell it.”
Shi Chuan remained silent, only lifting his eyes to look at me, a faint glimmer at the corner of his eye.
“I still thank you for rushing in to save me back then, Shi Chuan.”
“But you’re no longer the person you were.”
“A friend is investigating the person who leaked the news, and I told him not to pursue it further.”
“Consider it as repayment for the favor back then, Shi Chuan. From now on, the mountains are high and the roads are long, don’t appear before me again.”
He said nothing, and I turned to walk away.
Behind me came the man’s sobbing: “Zhaozhao.”
“…Why do you always refuse to rely on me just a little bit?”
My steps did not falter.
