Chapter 7
On the day of the court hearing, Zhong Yichen didn’t show up.
An hour later, I received the divorce decree and drove back to the villa.
But the corporation has urgent matters lately, so the news of the divorce will be suppressed for now.
When I got home, there was an unexpected guest sitting in the living room.
I frowned and called for security. He explained, “She has Mr. Zhong’s access card…”
Zhang Jiamin sat up straight and looked at me. “I’m here to take the enamel jewelry Mr. Zhong bought last time.”
She stroked the genuine leather sofa beneath her. “He said he’d give it to me, but you’ve been hoarding it.”
This villa is under my name. The day I decided to divorce, I threw out all of Zhong Yichen’s things. Those expensive items weren’t tossed out; I suppose they were sent to Repulse Bay.
I didn’t bother arguing with her. “Get out.”
“Wen Song.” She no longer called me Mrs. Zhong. “We’re both women, I know exactly what you’re thinking. You refused to divorce for years, and now you’re deliberately bringing it up-just trying to make your husband change his mind, playing hard to get. That trick won’t fool anyone.”
I turned my head and called, “Wen-Jie.” Soon, someone came up from downstairs.
I glanced at her. Her eyes were bright; she tossed aside her rag and strode forward, grabbing Zhang Jiamin and dragging her out.
“Ah-You lunatic!”
Wen-Jie and Li-Jie are both old-timers of the Zhong Family, brought over by Zhong Yichen’s mother from her own family years ago.
Li-Jie is steady and wise; Wen-Jie is unmatched in strength. The two were her mother’s right and left hands.
Back when Zhong Yichen’s mother dealt with those mistresses, Wen-Jie’s hands scratched countless faces of mistresses.
After I joined the Zhong Family, Zhong Yichen’s mother assigned her to my side.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t be bothered to make a fuss, so she had no use for her skills all these years. Today, I let her relive her former glory.
Outside, Wen-Jie’s powerful voice rang out: “You wretched woman, so young and already crazy for men! Even when Hong Kong’s mistress industry was at its peak, no shameless mistress dared to show up at the door. Born with a father but raised without one, even the landfill wouldn’t take you…”
Mandarin limited her performance, so she switched to Cantonese, every word sharp as a blade. One day, I’ll have her curse out Zhong Yichen for me too.
Zhang Jiamin has a bit of online fame; she’s crafted a persona for herself.
In her blog posts, she’s a girl from the bottom rung, who caught the eye of a powerful, wealthy boyfriend by chance.
That boyfriend cherishes her meticulously, is her benefactor, her lover, supporting her all the way up.
Unknowing netizens envy her: “You must be truly outstanding to be loved like this.”
She accepts all the praise: “He shows me the world, teaches me about people and society, so that even if things don’t last, I’ll still live happily.”
She weaves a dream of a prince and a poor girl, as if she really has become the heroine of a romance novel.
