Chapter 79 - Kill!
A burst of scarlet flame ignited on the bodies of two demon-eyed tigers, and it wasn’t long before both corpses were reduced to charcoal ashes.
With a fiery hand, Leng Yan plucked the scarlet flame fruit and then crushed it. The red juice flowed over the fiery hand, gradually seeping into the flames. Leng Yan could feel the power of his essence of fire strengthening significantly.
Leng Yan looked up into the distance, where he saw five members of the Five Elements Sect approaching him.
These five were likely drawn by the sounds of battle, but they arrived a bit late, missing the fight, and the demon-eyed tigers had already been reduced to ashes.
Leng Yan sensed a faint murderous intent emanating from these five, indicating they were trying hard to suppress it. However, their cultivation level was insufficient, and a trace of it still leaked through.
“Junior Brother Leng! Are you all right?” A man at the late stage of the primordial qi realm asked, holding a supreme-grade spiritual weapon, speaking with an air of friendliness.
Leng Yan was at the true essence realm in terms of cultivation level, while the other was at the primordial qi realm. According to seniority, Leng Yan indeed should call him “Senior Brother.” “I’m fine, but thank you for your concern, Senior Brother,” Leng Yan said with a smile.
“This place is very dangerous. We’re all at the late stage of the primordial qi realm, and Junior Brother Leng, though your realm isn’t high, your strength shouldn’t be weak. I hope you can join our team for better safety!” The man’s eyes flashed with greed as he looked at the Azure Sky Sword in Leng Yan’s hand.
“No need. My cultivation level is too low, and I fear I would only be a burden to you, Senior Brothers. I think it’s better if I’m on my own,” Leng Yan said, then readied his flying sword, as if preparing to leave.
“Trying to leave? Kill him for me!” The man, seeing that Leng Yan was about to depart, instantly revealed his true nature, thrusting his supreme-grade spiritual weapon toward Leng Yan.
Leng Yan’s move was intended to provoke them into action. Seeing the opponent’s red sword attacking, he quickly executed an iron bridge maneuver to evade the sword’s tip.
With a twist of his waist, Leng Yan’s fists struck out like a dragon emerging from the sea, aiming at the enemy behind him.
The person attempting to ambush Leng Yan from behind didn’t expect Leng Yan to target him first!
A pair of fist shadows flew from Leng Yan’s fists, forcing the man to retreat.
Then, with a leap, Leng Yan broke free from the encirclement of the five.
“Senior Brothers, it seems we have no real grudge between us. Is it just for the treasure tool in my possession?” Leng Yan took out the Azure Sky Sword, brandishing it slightly as he spoke.
“That’s part of it, and since you’re going to die anyway, I might as well tell you. You’ve angered our sect master, so you must die!” the leading man said viciously.
“Is your sect master Mu Qing?” Leng Yan inquired.
“Good that you know, so you won’t die with regrets! Attack!” The man waved his hand, and a massive wooden stake descended from the sky.
Leng Yan smiled slightly; he just wanted to know who was behind them. Now that he knew, these five people were of no further use.
“Thank you for telling me. To show my gratitude, I will make your deaths swift!”
Fire can burn wood; Leng Yan was well aware of this principle. His opponents were all from the Wood Sect, practicing wood element cultivation techniques.
“Fire Dragon Technique!”
Leng Yan sidestepped to avoid the man’s attack but faced the magical techniques of the other four. With a thought, two fire dragons formed in his palms and surged out.
“Boom! Boom!”
The magical techniques collided in the clearing, causing explosions, dust flying, wood splinters, and sparks shooting in all directions.
Leng Yan sprinted forward rapidly, like a phantom, with five colorful lines emanating from his body-the Spirit of Desire from the seven emotions and six desires technique!
This top-level cultivation technique from the demon desire palace was something these disciples had never seen before. In their moment of hesitation, their souls were invaded by the Spirit of Desire.
All five men were momentarily dazed, and Leng Yan’s Azure Sky Sword, like a scythe reaping lives, slashed through the throats of three and pierced the heart of another.
The last man, during this time, used a wood element mental cultivation technique to expel the Spirit of Desire and regained clarity. He quickly retreated!
When he saw his companions had all become corpses, his face finally showed a look of terror, and he gazed at Leng Yan with disbelief. He hadn’t expected Leng Yan to be so formidable, killing four companions in the blink of an eye!
If he hadn’t regained consciousness, he might have been lying there too!
The fear of death consumed him, stripping away his courage to continue the battle. A belief took root in his heart that he was no match for Leng Yan. The only thing he could do now was to plead with Leng Yan to spare his life.
Leng Yan, with a bloodthirsty smile playing at the corners of his mouth, found the act of taking lives exhilarating and was driven forward by the excitement. He approached the man step by step, who retreated in terror.
Finally, overwhelmed by fear, the man collapsed to his knees, frantically bowing his head on the ground as he pleaded, “Please… please don’t kill me. I’ll serve you faithfully in the future, do anything you ask, as long as you spare my life!”
Leng Yan’s expression remained unchanged, that same bloodthirsty demeanor. As an experienced assassin, he was accustomed to witnessing life and death and had seen many who clung desperately to life in their last moments.
“Serve me? You’re not worthy! Sparing you would dishonor your companions. Die!” Leng Yan shouted, and a fire dragon roared forth, striking the man’s chest and piercing through him entirely.
With a wave of his hand, Leng Yan incinerated all five bodies. In just an hour, he had already burned seven corpses.
Stepping onto his flying sword, Leng Yan sped southward, his spiritual awareness expanding, keeping a vigilant watch on his surroundings to prevent another ambush.
Since Mu Qing was determined to kill him, it was certain she wouldn’t just send a few people. Leng Yan was truly in a dire situation now, with enemies potentially lurking everywhere he went.
After several hours of sword flight, encountering many sect members but facing no further incidents, Leng Yan descended.
He decided to rest for a while, knowing he still had a long time to spend in this area. The teleportation formations were well-hidden, and finding them would take considerable effort.
Sitting cross-legged on the ground, he set up a few seals for protection and closed his eyes to rest. However, after merely a short moment, he heard a cry for help.
Leng Yan stood and looked-what he saw was a young woman, dressed in colorful attire, with a cherubic face full of youthful innocence, giving the impression of pure, untainted innocence.
However, when Leng Yan looked closely, he was surprised and thought, “Dongfang Caiyun, what is she doing here? Could it be…?”
Behind Dongfang Caiyun was a black eagle, its wings spanning over 20 meters, exuding the aura of the late stage of the primordial qi realm. In contrast, Dongfang Caiyun appeared to be only in the early stage of that realm.
Seeing Leng Yan, Dongfang Caiyun seemed to have found a savior. She sped up, running towards him and called out in a soft voice, “Help me!”
Leng Yan, however, dodged as if avoiding a plague, swiftly moving to the side, keeping his distance from Dongfang Caiyun.
Seeing this, Dongfang Caiyun angrily said, “Are you a man? I’m a woman being chased by an eagle, and you’re just standing there watching. Ah! The wind blade, I can’t dodge it!”
Leng Yan smiled and said, “Dongfang Caiyun, stop pretending in front of me. If you want to say something, just be straightforward. If you’ve accepted a mission, I suggest you abandon it.”
“You know me!” Dongfang Caiyun exclaimed in surprise, then halted and turned abruptly. Her aura quickly surged, reaching the Heavenly Realm in an instant. With a wave of her hands, a blazing phoenix engulfed the eagle, leaving only a few feathers drifting down.
After dealing with the “pursuer,” Dongfang Caiyun walked up to Leng Yan, took a good look, and exclaimed, “Blood Blade! So you’re Leng Yan! Oh, if I’d known it was you, I wouldn’t have taken this mission!”
“Really? I didn’t know you valued connections! Besides, you took the mission without recognizing me? Didn’t you recognize me when you accepted it?” Leng Yan said with a smile.
“That shows you’ve never taken a mission in the immortal cultivation world. Nowadays, people identify others by their aura, not by their face!” Dongfang Caiyun, like a little sister, spoke in a coquettish tone, which evoked a protective urge in men just listening to her.
