Chapter 64 - Breaking Through the Cultivation Technique
As Leng Yan approached within a kilometer of the hill, he noticed the temperature was slightly colder compared to other places, and gusts of chilling wind patrolled the area back and forth-a clear indication of someone’s orchestration!
Suddenly, a squad of ghost souls came whistling towards Leng Yan. Hastily, he cast a concealment seal on himself and faded into the Void.
The ghost souls lingered above Leng Yan for a moment, failing to detect him, and eventually returned the way they came.
“Having discipline and organization really makes a difference!” Leng Yan thought as he watched the ghost souls depart.
Had he acted just now, it would have alerted the Asura at the Heavenly Realm. If he summoned tens of thousands of ghost souls to self-destruct, it would be like being hit by thousands of Fiend Thunders, definitely putting Leng Yan in a precarious position.
“This time, Leng Yan must not act rashly. Considering this is just the outskirts of Yin Mountain, getting hurt here would not be worthwhile!”
After a brief pondering, Leng Yan decided to send in Leng Mo and ten Asuras to lure out the Asura within.
The netherworld ghost banner emanated a chilling aura, and a ghostly character glowed ominously. Ten Asuras spread out, surrounding Leng Yan, awaiting his command!
“Leng Mo, take these three to the hill ahead. Your task is to lure out the Asura inside. The three of you will cover Leng Mo and prevent the ghost souls from following. The others are to remain hidden nearby,” Leng Yan instructed, standing to the side.
Leng Mo nodded in agreement, then led three Asuras, spreading their aura as they charged towards the hill. Leng Yan, meanwhile, retreated with the remaining Asuras and set up a concealment barrier.
Through his spiritual awareness, Leng Yan could clearly observe the situation on Leng Mo’s side. As soon as Leng Mo entered the hill’s perimeter, they were attacked by thousands of ghost souls. However, these ghost souls were no match for the four, and within moments, they became fuel for their Nine Yin Fiend God Technique.
Suddenly, a gust of wind howled across the sky, bringing with it a dark mass of black mist, which concealed tens of thousands of ghost souls. Leading the group was a handsome Asura, notably without a unicorn horn on his head.
“Are you from that hill? This is my territory. Are you tired of living, or do you want to become my meal?” Nason boasted, confident in his strength and backed by tens of thousands of subordinates, showing no fear of Leng Mo and his group.
“Your territory? Ha! Just right, my brothers and I are looking for a place to settle, and this seems perfect. Step aside now and acknowledge me as your master, and I’ll spare you, giving you a chance to pledge your loyalty,” Leng Mo replied arrogantly, having received Leng Yan’s sound transmission.
“Fool! Attack!” Enraged and humiliated, Nason commanded his army of ghost souls to charge at Leng Mo and his companions.
Leng Mo remained still while the three Asuras beside him turned into streaks, engaging with the ghost soul army.
Fixated on Nason amidst the chaos, Leng Mo let out a roar like a frenzied beast and charged forward. Provoked, Nason rushed at Leng Mo, and in the blink of an eye, they were exchanging hundreds of blows.
Seizing the moment, Leng Mo feigned defeat and began to retreat. Enraged by Leng Mo’s taunts, Nason pursued him without hesitation.
With a smile, Leng Yan knew his plan was working and waited at his spot for Nason’s arrival.
In an instant, two white figures emerged from the distance-Leng Mo in the lead, followed closely by Nason. Seeing the time was right, Leng Yan commanded the remaining six Asuras to send out four more to flank and assist the three defending against the ghost souls.
Finally, Nason was lured into the seal’s enclosure. Seeing Leng Yan, with Leng Mo and two Asuras behind him, Nason’s face turned ashen. “Human! You set me up!”
“Didn’t expect you to be so clever! Making you part of my soul is a concession I’m willing to make,” Leng Yan smiled.
“Never thought our Asura clan would have traitors serving humans, but if you wish to capture me, it won’t be that easy.” “Screech!” Nason let out a piercing scream, attempting to summon allies for help.
However, Leng Yan had already set up multiple seals, preventing any message from getting through.
“Since you know I lured you here, you should have realized that I’ve cut off all your escape routes. Stop resisting, it will only make your suffering worse!” Leng Yan said with a smile, crimson flames dancing in his palm.
“You’re despicable!” Nason shouted angrily.
“Hmph! You can tell that to the King of Hell! Water Curtain Barrier, seal!” Leng Yan threw a blue orb toward Nason, which transformed into a massive bubble, trapping Nason inside.
“You three, guard me and make sure no one disturbs my work!” Leng Yan instructed Leng Mo.
“Yes, Master!” Leng Mo bowed and, along with the other two Asuras, spread out to protect Leng Yan.
“Bang! Bang!”
Nason furiously slammed against the Water Curtain Barrier, but it only quivered and did not break.
“Burn Sky!”
Since Nason had awakened his spiritual wisdom, erasing his spiritual awareness would be much more difficult. So, Leng Yan decided to refine him with flames, leaving only the essence of his soul.
Within the Water Curtain Barrier, towering flames erupted. Nason, being just a spiritual body, howled in agony amidst the fire. Finally, unable to endure the pain, he roared, “I won’t make it easy for you, even if I die!”
“Trying to self-destruct? Not that simple!” Just as Nason was about to self-destruct, Leng Yan flicked a black needle into Nason’s body, causing his expression to go blank.
This was the effect of the spirit-fixing needle, which locked his spiritual awareness, cutting off communication with his soul energy. However, it could only restrain him for a short period.
Still, that brief moment was enough, as Nason’s body had begun to melt into a pure white liquid.
When Nason regained his senses, most of his body had already disappeared, leaving only his head.
“No! I don’t want to die!” Nason cried out in fear.
His voice lingered for a moment, but Nason had already become a puddle of white liquid filled with yin evil energy, which must not be directly integrated with the soul. It required further refinement.
The flames continued to burn with a sizzle, as if melting fat. As they burned, the pure white liquid transformed from white to a light blue, then to a nearly translucent state. Leng Yan had successfully refined most of the yin evil energy.
Once the last trace of yin evil energy was incinerated into ash, what remained was pure soul power. Swiftly, Leng Yan dispelled the water curtain barrier and the flames.
He sat cross-legged, quickly sensing the status of the seven Asuras. Their battle had already concluded, and as the Asuras were on their way back, Leng Yan felt relieved. After a short wait, the Asuras returned, and Leng Yan instructed them to begin refining Fiend Thunder for future use.
Being formed from yin evil energy, Asuras could cultivate the nine yin fiend god technique more quickly than humans. All ten Asuras had reached the brink of breaking through to the third layer, and for them, breaking through was easier-simply requiring the continued consumption of fierce souls or similar entities, without the worry of Fiendish Qi eroding their souls.
Leng Yan sat calmly, his concentrated soul forming the body of belief, which floated out from his head. This ethereal presence shone with a faint golden light, appearing almost illusory.
The body of belief emerged and hovered cross-legged in mid-air, performing complex hand seals. Nason’s soul energy drifted toward it.
The body of belief opened its mouth gently and inhaled, drawing the translucent threads of soul energy into itself.
Absorbing the soul energy made Leng Yan’s body of belief more refined, pushing it towards tangible form. Leng Yan could feel his mental power increasing at an impressive pace.
Two hours passed silently. Leng Yan had absorbed all of Nason’s soul energy, and now his body of belief, hanging in the air, appeared not as if floating, but standing in the Void, blurring the line between illusion and reality.
Slowly, the body of belief descended back into his head as Leng Yan finally completed the breakthrough to the third layer.
“Now, all that’s left is the soul armor. Once I condense the soul armor, my strength will increase further. Although I won’t be able to match those at the unification realm, I should at least manage to escape under their hands,” Leng Yan contemplated.
