A few days later, at the birthday banquet for Cheng Yedu’s grandmother, Ji Tangli arrived on his arm.

His grandmother asked him, “Where’s that other girlfriend of yours? Why isn’t she here?”

Fang Xiaolin piped up from the side.

“That girlfriend is going to MIT for her PhD. She already broke up with him.”

The grandmother was amazed. “That girl is so accomplished?”

Cheng Yedu interjected, “Don’t listen to her, Grandma. Lin Zhixia never even prepared to go abroad.”

Fang Xiaolin raised an eyebrow.

“That’s just what you think.”

“She never included you in her future plans.”

For the rest of the evening, Cheng Yedu was distracted.

He was trying to figure out how much of what Fang Xiaolin said was true.

Lin Zhixia had never mentioned wanting to go abroad.

Besides, wouldn’t she need to prepare for language tests and the GRE? All his classmates in college who went abroad were either constantly studying or carrying around vocabulary books.

Lin Zhixia never did any of that.

She was always cheerful, doing a job that was incredibly easy for her, with no grand ambitions.

Cheng Yedu had assumed she would just keep fleecing the parents of high school students for the rest of her life.

But on second thought, if it were true, it would explain why she saved so much money without spending any of it.

She was earning sixty to seventy thousand a month, but she didn’t buy property or invest. Aside from her weakness for handsome men, she had no bad habits.

Most girls her age would at least buy some luxury goods.

But she only spent two or three thousand a month and even lived in his apartment for free.

So, she was playing the long game!

Cheng Yedu thought: he had to confront Lin Zhixia and get the truth.

If what Fang Xiaolin said was true, didn’t that mean he had been used?

He had contributed his incredible body and free housing. What did she take him for?

Beside him, Ji Tangli’s face was stormy. She nudged him. “Still thinking about that woman?”

Cheng Yedu snapped back to reality. “No, I was just wondering if Fang Xiaolin was messing with me.”
