Chapter 3
As we were speaking, Song Fei arrived.
He was wearing a suit, his hair specially styled, making him look even more handsome.
He kissed Xu Jiao’s cheek and asked gently, “Is Xu Tao still not here?”
Xu Jiao nodded, her eyes filled with tears.
“Forget it, don’t mind her,” Song Fei’s face darkened. “Having someone like her here would just taint our wedding. Jiaojiao, you’re the bride today. Don’t cry for someone who isn’t worth it.”
Xu Jiao took the opportunity to wrap her arms around his neck, looking up with a sorrowful expression. “No matter what, Taotao is still my sister.”
Her expression looked utterly sincere.
Just like three years ago, when as the outstanding graduate, the university suggested my parents be present at the graduation ceremony to say a few words for photos and publicity.
I carefully worded my request and called home.
My mother agreed.
But on the morning of the ceremony, she called to tell me that she and my father couldn’t make it.
“Jiaojiao is sick. We can’t leave her at home alone.”
In the video call, Xu Jiao, her face slightly pale, looked at me apologetically.
“I’m sorry, Taotao, I’m not feeling well… You’ve always been so independent. You’ll be able to handle it even if Mom and Dad aren’t there.”
“Taotao, happy graduation.”
Happy graduation.
How could I be happy?
On the day of my graduation ceremony, I apologized to my teachers, to the department, and to the staff in the event office.
As I passed by a camera, I overheard someone complaining.
“The whole program was rehearsed, and now we have to change everything. What a piece of trash. And they call this an outstanding graduate.”
When the ceremony ended, I took out my phone and happened to see a post from Xu Jiao on my social media feed.
“It was just a small cold, but Mom and Dad were so caring and took good care of me. Life’s little certainties~”
The accompanying picture was a photo of the three of them.
The background was Xu Jiao’s bedroom.
They hadn’t even gone to the hospital.
What a serious illness indeed.
