Chapter 12
The Ji Family doesn’t have the habit of staying up late; Mr. and Mrs. Ji went to bed early.
Ji Ming and I watched TV for a while, then each returned to our rooms.
I thought this year would be just like previous years–an ordinary New Year’s Eve.
If Ji Ming hadn’t climbed into my bed in the middle of the night.
Around midnight, I was lying in bed scrolling through my phone when I suddenly felt a chill behind me, and then Ji Ming slipped in.
“Don’t you have your own bed?”
“I do, but my sister’s bed is warmer.”
Ji Ming wrapped his arms around my waist, enveloping me completely.
“Too bad my sister is focused on her studies and has no time for romance. Brother, you should hurry back to your own room; I need to study.”
Ji Ming’s hand moved mischievously, gently pinching my waist.
“Still holding a grudge? I’m just helping you out.”
I turned to face him, speaking seriously, “I don’t want an escape, I want a solution.”
Ji Ming gazed at me, brushed aside the hair hanging in front of my eyes, and pulled me into his embrace. “I know, don’t worry, I’ll take care of everything.”
I nodded lightly in his arms, “Mm, I trust you.”
I trust you, you big-headed fool.
A man’s words are deceitful.
Anyone who believes this will end up divorced three times in their life.
“It’s almost time, get up,” Ji Ming suddenly urged me.
“Get up for what?”
“To watch the fireworks!”
“My room faces away from the sea; I can’t see the fireworks.”
Indeed, an adopted daughter doesn’t deserve a room with a sea view.
“Just get up.”
I lazily got out of bed and followed Ji Ming to the small balcony of the room.
“Five, four,” Ji Ming counted down beside me.
“Three.”
“Two.”
“One!”
With a “bang,” the pitch-black night sky was suddenly illuminated by a burst of brilliant light, followed by countless fireworks blooming in the mountains.
The entire night sky was instantly lit up, and the mountain scenery before us appeared and disappeared in the play of light and shadow.
Clearly, there shouldn’t be fireworks here; clearly, they have nothing to do with me.
Yet at this moment, they were blooming right in front of me, unabashedly filling my view.
“Who said you couldn’t see them?”
Ji Ming’s voice pierced through the roar of the fireworks, still clear.
The fireworks before my eyes gradually blurred, overlapping into double images, and a wave of sourness surged at the tip of my nose.
I turned to look at the man beside me, clearly approaching thirty, yet at this moment, his eyes lit by the fireworks revealed a youthful glow.
That beam of light turned towards me, softly saying, “Happy New Year, sister.”
Damn, this man is too unfair!
