Life Is Full of Endless Possibilities - Chapter 4
By the time I finished, my clothes were beyond saving.
They had been soaked completely through with blood.
Throughout the entire process, the System had sounded like a chicken being strangled. At first, it shrieked nonstop. Later, it went unnaturally quiet.
Everyone in the hall could only make faint, breathy sounds.
Whimpering pleas for mercy and furious muttered curses mingled with the noise in the palace hall.
The moment those tiny screams escaped, they were completely swallowed by the lilting music.
I whistled cheerfully and ate a meal in the middle of a room full of blood.
After letting out a satisfied burp, I smiled and pressed the reload button again.
Scenes flashed before my eyes in rapid reverse like a tape rewinding.
I closed my eyes.
How should I put it?
I was getting a little motion sick from the 3D effect.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back at the point where the banquet was being prepared.
Yang Fuxue was instructing me that no expense was to be spared for that evening’s celebration.
But when she saw my expressionless face, she suddenly seemed unable to continue. She clutched her chest as cold sweat poured down her forehead.
I’d almost forgotten.
After a reload, anyone I’d disciplined in a previous run would lose all memory of what had happened, but they would still retain an instinctive fear of me.
I’d first discovered that when dealing with Xu Liangdi, one of the Crown Prince’s women.
Xu Liangdi had been greatly favored by the Crown Prince.
Her father was a newly promoted high-ranking official, her mother came from a merchant family, and her household had both money and status. She had swaggered around the Crown Prince’s residence like she owned the place, bullying Yang Fuxue, our female lead, whenever she felt like it.
In the dead of winter, I’d shoved Xu Liangdi into the lake several times.
After I’d taught her a lesson twice, she suddenly started trembling whenever she saw me. She didn’t dare try anything after that and became remarkably well behaved.
These days, I thought she lived in some side hall of the imperial palace. Her rank was only that of Noble Lady.
Yang Fuxue’s current reaction looked very much like Xu Liangdi’s had back then.
Probably because I hadn’t just slit her throat last time.
I’d also dug out her heart.
The imperial physician was summoned to examine her, but found nothing wrong. He merely said that Her Majesty had likely overworked herself lately, prescribed a nourishing tonic, and withdrew.
After that incident, Yang Fuxue stopped using me for the banquet and assigned another palace maid to take charge instead.
I was more than happy to be free of the work and went straight back to my room to rest.
The maid Qingzhu was overjoyed at being given the assignment, as if she’d won the lottery.
After finally managing to get one over on me, she couldn’t resist coming to show off.
I knew that smug look in her eyes very well.
She was one of the palace’s “regular troops,” yet for years she’d been overshadowed by a wild country girl like me.
She’d resented me for a long time and had tripped me up plenty of times in daily life.
Looking at her smug face, I smiled softly.
Since I had nothing else to do now, I might as well play with her for a while.
A little later, I reloaded back to the moment she had come looking for me.
The sarcastic words she’d meant to say simply wouldn’t come out. Her body even swayed on the verge of collapse.
A short while ago, I’d cut out her tongue.
Not long before that, I’d severed the tendons in her hands and feet.
Now she stood before me perfectly intact, but her instincts were screaming at her not to provoke me.
In the end, she didn’t manage to say a single word before a young eunuch came to fetch her and led her away.
