Life Is Full of Endless Possibilities - Chapter 2
After a deathly silence, my panicked, trembling voice finally came out.
“What… what do you mean? Didn’t you just tell me the mission was complete and I could go home?”
The System replied in a completely emotionless tone.
[Because the female lead did not agree to your request to go home just now, the completion criteria have not been met.]
“You mean… as long as Yang Fuxue refuses to let me go home, I’ll never be able to go home?”
The System said nothing.
My voice trembled.
“I just want to go home…”
Then what had all these years of diligent work, humiliation, and endurance been for?
“Didn’t you say I could go home once I finished the plot?”
And now it was telling me the mission wasn’t complete?
The System said, [The female lead did not explicitly agree that the Host may go home. Therefore, the Host may not return home for the time being.]
“What if she never wants to let me go home?”
That question silenced the System.
Only after a long while did it answer.
[Then the Host will remain here forever.]
…
If I couldn’t go home, what was the point of staying in this man-eating feudal society?
I was nothing but a minor palace maid beside Yang Fuxue.
Anyone could have me beaten or killed on a whim.
Every day, I’d survived by thinking about air-conditioning, refrigerators, food delivery, and all the other things from home.
I stopped speaking to the System. Instead, I got up and began preparing the arrangements for the Emperor’s visit that evening.
The System assumed I’d finally accepted reality and said to me with satisfaction,
[It’s good that you’ve come around. The female lead’s wishes are the supreme law of this world. As long as the female lead is satisfied, you’ll be able to go home someday.]
Heh. The female lead?
Had the System forgotten that Yang Fuxue had only been the female supporting character?
Hadn’t the real female lead died long ago?
Wasn’t the only reason Yang Fuxue had become the female lead because I helped her?
And now that I’d done all the hard work, they wanted to toss me aside?
Night fell quickly.
Yang Fuxue and Xiao Qingyan arrived together at an unhurried pace.
A large table was covered with food. The two of them were all sweetness and affection as they dismissed the servants and prepared to dine alone.
I was the last to leave. I shut everyone else outside—then returned to Yang Fuxue’s side.
She looked at me in confusion. “You may withdraw. His Majesty and I don’t need anyone serving us.”
I said nothing.
In one lightning-fast movement, I pulled the dagger hidden in my sleeve.
And stabbed it viciously into Xiao Qingyan’s chest.
He was completely unprepared. The blade went straight in.
Blood sprayed out and splashed across my face.
I raised the dagger and stabbed him seven or eight more times before finally stopping.
Yang Fuxue stood frozen in place, staring at the scene in disbelief.
Before she could even scream, I backhanded the dagger across her throat.
In her wide almond-shaped eyes, my face was reflected like that of a rakshasa demon.
Then she slowly collapsed.
A piercing alarm exploded in my head.
For a moment, my ears rang. Then I heard the System shriek in furious disbelief.
[Why did you kill both the male and female leads?!]
“What? Can’t you tell?” I said. “I’m venting my dissatisfaction.”
