Chapter 24
Hi.
Her son is only a college freshman.
And she actually said that out loud.
Honestly, this is the kind of parent I wish I had.
Even if I’m just ordinary, in her eyes, I’m a treasure of the world-not even kings or the Heavenly Lord could match me.
Maybe the Heavenly Lord took pity on me, so He sent my Mentor to make up for what I lacked.
Once, I was having dinner with Zhou Xiang’s parents when we happened to run into my Mentor.
She praised me to the skies and even secretly paid our bill.
From that day on, Zhou Xiang’s parents’ attitude toward me changed noticeably.
In my third year of graduate school, Campus Recruitment began.
I had to start looking for a job too.
One day, my Mentor saw my resume and wasn’t happy.
“If you’re looking for a job, why didn’t you ask me? Why are you running around like a headless chicken on your own?”
She recommended me to a leading domestic heavy industry company.
Of course, I still had to interview.
The position I applied for was Senior Business Manager, mainly responsible for translation, hosting foreign clients, and assisting with finalizing cooperation deals.
There were ten of us in the final interview.
Two of them were Overseas Returnees.
As a 985 Project master’s graduate, I really didn’t stand out.
But during the interview, the Lead Interviewer looked very familiar.
He flipped through my resume and asked, “Did you use to work at Longrun Teahouse?”
Then I remembered.
He used to bring foreign clients to the teahouse for tea tasting.
There was usually a translator, but tea tasting involved a lot of specialized terms, which the translators weren’t familiar with.
So sometimes I would help out.
That was like having a free, authentic foreign teacher-I was more than happy to chat a bit more.
The interview atmosphere was great the whole time.
Soon, I received a Job Offer.
The total annual salary was 300,000 yuan.
Of course, it was nothing compared to Zhou Xiang, but thinking back to when I graduated from college and struggled to find a job, it really was a world of difference.
After my job was settled, Zhou Xiang’s mom started to get anxious.
“You’re both not that young anymore. You should really hurry up and get married and have kids.”
See, that’s what marriage is like.
Only when you have enough bargaining chips can you earn attention and respect.
That year, Qiuqiu was a junior in college.
She was originally planning to take the Graduate Entrance Exam. Zhou Xiang and I had already helped her make plans.
But suddenly, she didn’t want to take it anymore.
After I pressed her repeatedly, I found out she had a boyfriend, three years older than her.
He graduated from a junior college and now works in sales.
Her boyfriend was eager to get married.
I was completely stunned.
After meeting her boyfriend, I felt even more that he was all talk and unreliable.
“Heavenly Lord gave you such a smart brain, and you’re using it all for romance?”
“You worked so hard to get into college, just to get married right after graduation?”
“Why is he stopping you from taking the Graduate Entrance Exam? It’s because he’s afraid your education will be so much higher than his that he won’t be worthy of you!”
“Qiuqiu, you and he are not the same kind of people.”
…
We were all heated in the moment.
Qiuqiu got angry too.
“Back then you only had an ordinary bachelor’s degree, and Brother-in-law was a PhD-he didn’t look down on you!”
“Song is right, sis, you’re meddling too much. I’m not a three-year-old. I can take responsibility for my own life!”
…
