I'm Done with the Elite Marriage - Chapter 78
At eight o’clock in the morning, the Zhou Family gathered outside the delivery room, waiting anxiously for good news.
Before long, the medical staff came out and informed the Zhou Family, “Congratulations, it’s a boy. Six jin and one liang.”
Rong Huiying and Zhou Zhishan embraced each other in excitement. “Thank heaven, thank earth! As long as everything is safe, that’s all that matters. Thank you, doctor!”
Almost at the very moment the baby was born, Fu Xunzhou, who had been standing nearby, felt his eyes well up.
Fu Xunzhou had stayed by her side from yesterday all the way until now, barely closing his eyes at all. Blue stubble was growing on his chin. Hearing the news, he felt every moment of waiting had been worth it.
But seeing that Zhou Youling still hadn’t come out, Fu Xunzhou couldn’t help but step forward and ask, “What about the mother? Why hasn’t she come out yet?”
A nurse explained, “The mother is experiencing some bleeding. She’s being monitored inside.”
Rong Huiying’s legs nearly gave out when she heard this, and she hurriedly asked, “Is it serious?”
Fu Xunzhou’s heart skipped a beat as well.
Even with modern medicine, as the saying goes, giving birth is like walking through the gates of hell.
The medical staff said, “Family members, don’t worry. The mother is fine. Just wait a little longer and you’ll be able to see her and the baby.”
With these words from the nurse, everyone’s anxious hearts finally settled down.
Fu Xunzhou quietly walked to the side, unable to hide his inner excitement, his eyes moist. He wiped away his tears in silence, never having realized that he could have such a moment. He couldn’t control his tears, his heart surging with emotion.
After a while, Zhou Zhishan came over to Fu Xunzhou, patted him on the shoulder, and said, “Alright now, how come a grown man like you is crying?”
Fu Xunzhou turned his head and glanced at Zhou Zhishan, only to find Zhou Zhishan’s eyes were red too.
This feeling, even in the future, every time Fu Xunzhou thought of it, he would feel a faint excitement in his heart that was hard to forget. As long as he thought about Zhou Youling giving birth to a child, he felt he could never let her down for the rest of his life.
After the delivery, there were still many things to take care of, one after another.
An hour later, Zhou Youling and the baby were wheeled out of the delivery room.
But Zhou Youling was already asleep.
She was truly exhausted. She had barely slept a wink last night, and started waiting for labor at seven in the morning. It wasn’t until eight o’clock that the baby was born. She might have looked calm on the outside, but she had been tense the whole time. She had thought she would get a good look at the baby when she got back to the ward, but before she even made it there, she was so tired she fell asleep.
Seeing her daughter sleeping so soundly, Rong Huiying gestured for everyone to keep quiet, so Zhou Youling could have a good rest.
But before long, the nurse came over and said breastfeeding had to start immediately, so Rong Huiying had no choice but to wake Zhou Youling.
When she woke, Zhou Youling couldn’t even tell what day it was. She blinked her big eyes and looked around, taking three seconds to remember what she’d just been through. She asked nervously, “Where’s the baby?”
Rong Huiying quickly pushed the crib to Zhou Youling’s side, saying, “Right here.”
The first attempt at breastfeeding did not go smoothly.
Even after two days, Zhou Youling still didn’t produce any milk. With no other choice, the baby would have to be fed formula.
Because of this, Zhou Youling was so anxious that she cried. She wanted to be a good mom, but hadn’t expected to stumble at the very first step: breastfeeding.
Rong Duanjing had been at the hospital almost the entire time these two days, helping with every issue that arose. She’d just given birth to Xingxing last year and was very familiar with all the postpartum knowledge.
Finally, it was Rong Duanjing who advised Zhou Youling not to get hung up on breastfeeding. “Don’t put so much pressure on yourself. A lot of people these days can’t breastfeed. Don’t blame yourself.”
Lying in bed, Zhou Youling sniffled and said in a hoarse voice, “I just feel so useless.”
“How can that be useless? Silly girl, you’re the greatest person in the world right now!” Rong Duanjing said.
Thank goodness Rong Duanjing was there, otherwise Zhou Youling really might have gotten stuck in a dead end.
In the end, they chose to feed the baby formula, but when the baby touched the bottle, he rejected it, not even knowing how to suck.
Even though Rong Duanjing was experienced, she could only let the baby get used to it on his own.
The little one looked so small, yet he was stubborn for a full twenty minutes. He tried the bottle at first, but when he realized he couldn’t get anything, he refused to suck again.
This made Zhou Youling even more anxious.
She had no breast milk, and the baby wouldn’t take formula. What was she supposed to do?
Rong Huiying blamed herself too, saying, “It’s my fault. I didn’t arrange for a postpartum caregiver, and I don’t know anything myself.”
Zhou Zhishan comforted Rong Huiying, “Don’t say that. Alright, don’t add to the chaos.”
Fortunately, it was a single-patient room; otherwise, with the Zhou Family rushing about like this, they would surely have disturbed others.
Rong Duanjing tried several times to feed the baby with a bottle but failed, so she called the medical staff for help. Unexpectedly, even the medical staff were powerless. They only said, “Let the baby try a few more times. He’ll learn to open his mouth and try little by little.”
After the medical staff left, Rong Huiying and Zhou Zhishan took turns as well, but none of them could get the baby to open his mouth for the bottle.
This only made everyone more anxious.
In the end, Fu Xunzhou, who had been standing at the doorway without coming in, spoke up in his usual calm tone, “Let me try.”
The room fell briefly silent at the sound of Fu Xunzhou’s voice.
It was Rong Huiying who finally spoke, “All right, you try.”
This sentence made the room even quieter.
Everyone knew Rong Huiying was the most resistant to Fu Xunzhou. Although he had been waiting outside the hospital room these past two days, Rong Huiying had always turned a blind eye to him, as if he didn’t exist at all.
But now things were different, and Rong Huiying could only try anything that might work. Especially considering Fu Xunzhou was the baby’s biological father-perhaps this little one really would be drawn to Fu Xunzhou by blood ties.
So, with permission, Fu Xunzhou stepped into the hospital room.
A single-patient room in a public hospital wasn’t luxurious, and with the whole family together, it felt rather cramped.
The first thing Fu Xunzhou looked at upon entering was Zhou Youling.
Zhou Youling lay on the bed in a hospital gown, her long hair draped over her shoulders. She looked utterly exhausted, her already small, delicate face appearing even thinner and paler.
These past two days, Zhou Youling had been so worried about breastfeeding she could hardly eat or sleep, and her spirits were at their lowest.
Fu Xunzhou wanted to say something to Zhou Youling, but worried she might reject him, he could only walk over to the baby.
This was almost the first time Fu Xunzhou had looked so closely at the baby he and Zhou Youling had together.
Although the little one was only two days old, his features were already quite delicate. At first glance, Fu Xunzhou thought the child resembled his mother-like his mother, that was good.
Fu Xunzhou gazed at the baby for a moment, then carefully picked up the tiny bundle, just over six jin in weight.
Six jin and one liang, plus a bit for the clothes-it couldn’t have been more than seven jin.
But what was seven jin, really? Fu Xunzhou could easily lift a dumbbell heavier than that with one hand.
Soft as if boneless, so light to hold, it felt as if he might accidentally break him.
In just a short moment, a sheen of sweat appeared across Fu Xunzhou’s brow-all because he was nervous.
But he appeared calm and collected.
Fu Xunzhou sat down on a chair, casually took the bottle Rong Huiying handed him, and gently placed it at the baby’s lips. He murmured, “Little one, be good, okay? Open your mouth.”
Miraculously, the baby seemed to really understand Fu Xunzhou’s words, and opened his mouth, searching.
Fu Xunzhou seized the moment to place the latex bottle nipple in the baby’s mouth, and to everyone’s surprise, he began to suck hard, showing no resistance or rejection at all.
“My goodness, that’s amazing!” Rong Duanjing exclaimed from the side.
Not only Rong Duanjing-Zhou Zhishan echoed, “If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn’t believe it.”
Rong Huiying didn’t say anything, but she too was moved by the scene.
One had to admit, the saying “blood is thicker than water” was true.
Sitting on the bed, Zhou Youling finally saw her baby feeding, and the burden in her heart was finally relieved.
She couldn’t help but glance at Fu Xunzhou, and seeing him so focused on feeding the baby, she felt a strange, unexpected warmth in her heart.
Rong Huiying noticed the relaxed expression on Zhou Youling’s face, and went over to her, saying, “All right, leave the baby to us. Get some sleep-you’ve been through a lot these past two days.”
Now that Zhou Youling could relax, she even felt like bantering with Rong Huiying. “Mom, why are you being so formal?”
The baby was hers-of course she wanted to do everything she could to take care of him.
Perhaps it was just a mother’s instinct. Zhou Youling simply wanted to give her child the very best.
“Oh, I’m not being formal! Anyway, just get some sleep.” Rong Huiying helped Zhou Youling lie down.
Zhou Youling didn’t protest further-she really was exhausted and needed rest. Now, she finally understood what Rong Duanjing had said earlier-she almost wished she could put the little one back in her belly.
But before lying down, Zhou Youling glanced once more at Fu Xunzhou sitting not far away.
Fu Xunzhou was carefully feeding the baby, his head bowed, showing off his handsome jawline.
Once, Zhou Youling had dreamed of a moment like this. But she never imagined her dream would one day come true.
