I'm Done with the Elite Marriage - Chapter 72
On March 21st, Zhou Youling received a bouquet of daisies.
The flowers were placed right at Zhou Youling’s doorstep, with a card that simply read: “I will know how to gently touch the newborn flowers, because you taught me how to be tender.”
On March 22nd, Zhou Youling received a poster.
The poster featured Zhou Youling’s favorite singer, whom she had been crazy about during her school days. Even at her current age, Zhou Youling would occasionally browse the internet for news about this singer. The poster had a handwritten signature: “Steadfast and clear, gentle and diligent, all beauty falls upon you.”
On March 23rd, Zhou Youling received a doll.
This type of doll had once been one of Zhou Youling’s favorite toys, but as she grew older, she had almost stopped interacting with such things. A note was attached to the doll, saying: “Later, I finally understood, you may be as unpredictable as the weather, yet just as unavoidable.”
On March 24th, Zhou Youling received a bouquet of sunflowers.
Sunflowers were also one of Zhou Youling’s favorite flowers. She remembered a sunflower field along her school route, where the seeds would become snacks during harvest season. Unsurprisingly, there was a card in the bouquet, which read: “Sunflowers always turn towards the sun, no matter where the sun is, they will follow. Just like me with you.”
…
For several consecutive days, an item was placed at Zhou Youling’s doorstep early every morning, and no one knew who was leaving them.
Honestly, when Zhou Youling saw card after card filled with sentimental words, she didn’t feel touched at all; instead, she felt creeped out.
Zhou Youling suspected there was a security issue in the neighborhood, so she went to the security guard room to check the surveillance footage. However, the footage showed that the person delivering the items was well-disguised, deliberately leaving no traceable clues.
With the trail cold and no threat to personal safety involved, the security guard could only verify the identities of everyone entering and leaving the neighborhood more thoroughly.
Initially, Zhou Family parents were worried about potential negative implications. But as the gifts kept coming in different forms every day, their vigilance gradually relaxed. It was clear the sender was sincere, and they had no right to stop someone from expressing their feelings.
…
On April 1st, April Fools’ Day, Zhou Youling got up early, determined to catch whoever was delivering these items.
At five in the morning, Zhou Youling opened the door to check, confirming no one had arrived yet, so she patiently waited.
Time ticked by, and at six o’clock, Zhou Youling checked the peephole again, finding no one had come.
When Rong Huiying got up and saw Zhou Youling standing guard at the door, she asked, “What are you doing up so early?”
Zhou Youling replied, “I want to find out who’s doing this.”
Rong Huiying laughed, “Isn’t it obvious? My daughter is so beautiful and charming; she must have an admirer. Remember when you were in school? Boys would send things to our house every day; I got used to it.”
This was true. Zhou Youling had many admirers back then, with some boys even coming to the house to confess. Those who failed would resort to sending various creative gifts.
But that was a thing of the past, and it felt distant now.
Zhou Youling frowned, “Mom, times have changed; who would do such things to pursue someone now?”
“Why not? I believe there are still people like that. You can’t avoid them; just take it in stride,” Rong Huiying said. “What would you like for breakfast? Mom will make it for you.”
Zhou Youling said, “Anything is fine.”
“How can it be just anything? You’re pregnant,” Rong Huiying nagged. “You need a boiled egg, a glass of milk, and a handmade bun for breakfast.”
Zhou Youling ignored her mom’s nagging and turned to check the peephole.
At that moment, Zhou Youling saw a bouquet of roses placed at the door.
She hurriedly opened the door but saw no one. She was sure the bouquet had been placed there within the last minute because it was just during her conversation with her mom that the person had left it.
“Who is it!” Zhou Youling shouted, “Come out if you dare! What’s the point of sneaking around every day?”
No one responded, and Zhou Youling quickly walked to the elevator, which was indeed descending slowly.
Coincidentally, another elevator had just arrived, and Zhou Youling considered chasing after it but held back. She couldn’t be too impulsive, especially while pregnant, as it wasn’t wise to chase after someone.
Zhou Youling turned around, walked to the door, and picked up the bouquet of roses.
They were fresh red roses, but unlike previous times, there was no card or note left this time.
Standing in the hallway at the entrance of her home, Zhou Youling looked around.
At six o’clock in the early spring in B City, it was still a gray haze outside, and the corridor lights were on.
After a while, Zhou Zhishan came out from inside, handing Zhou Youling a coat, and said, “You should go rest. Why get up so early?”
He glanced down at the roses in Zhou Youling’s hand and smiled faintly, “The sender is quite thoughtful.”
Zhou Youling frowned and stuffed the flowers into her father’s hand, “Probably meant for you.”
Zhou Zhishan: “?”
Zhou Youling said, “After all, the sender never specifies who they’re for. Who says they’re meant for me?”
Zhou Zhishan uttered an “uh,” “Seems like you have a point.”
After speaking, Zhou Youling turned around without looking back and returned to her room.
Not far away, at the stairway.
A tall and upright figure did not leave.
Fu Xunzhou heard the conversation at the door, and a faint smile appeared on his lips.
He lifted his foot and walked downstairs.
Zhou Youling lived on the eighth floor, and Fu Xunzhou turned at the seventh floor. He walked to a door, lightly touched the fingerprint lock, and the door opened.
Returning home, Fu Xunzhou casually placed his black coat and hat on the sofa and headed to the kitchen for a glass of water. Just then, he ran into Fu Hexu coming out of the bathroom.
Fu Hexu, looking drowsy, was bare-chested and squinting at Fu Xunzhou, “Up early, sneaking around again?”
Fu Xunzhou tilted his head back and drank the water, then looked at Fu Hexu, “Shouldn’t you be heading back to Nanzhou City?”
“Why go back?” Fu Hexu asked.
Fu Xunzhou twisted his neck and walked to the treadmill, casually saying to Fu Hexu, “You’re an eyesore.”
Fu Hexu got agitated, “I’m an eyesore to you?”
Fu Xunzhou slowly started jogging, while Fu Hexu chattered on, “I kindly gave you advice to pursue your wife, and you call me an eyesore? Do you have any conscience?”
Fu Xunzhou didn’t respond, maintaining his steady breathing as he ran.
Fu Hexu continued, “I’ve been worrying myself sick over you, finding out where your younger brother’s wife lives, arranging for you to lurk here. I haven’t even heard a thank you from you. You’re unbelievable!”
Fu Xunzhou replied indifferently, “Thank you, Fu Group needs you.”
Fu Hexu was unimpressed, “Bah! Thinking about Fu Group gives me a headache! Don’t talk nonsense with me!”
Finding the chatter annoying, Fu Xunzhou grabbed the headphones hanging on the treadmill and put them in his ears.
Fu Hexu yanked the headphones off, “If you’re going back to Nanzhou City, you’re coming with me. I can’t do without you.”
Fu Xunzhou looked at Fu Hexu with a blank expression, coldly saying, “Haven’t you weaned?”
Getting up so early only to achieve nothing felt far from pleasant.
Yet, there was a vague, inexplicable feeling in Zhou Youling’s heart. The person sending her things seemed very familiar with her, but she had never lived in B City before. How could they know her so well?
Zhou Youling closed her eyes, a figure flashed in her mind, but she quickly shook her head. She pulled up the quilt and decided to sleep a little longer.
She slept until the sun was high in the sky, awakened by the ringing of a phone.
Zhou Youling glanced at the caller ID; it was Huo Lianghan.
As soon as the call connected, Huo Lianghan said, “Please, please, please, don’t refuse me again! I’ve been waiting for you for almost three months since before the New Year.”
Zhou Youling’s heart skipped a beat, wondering if the things at her door were sent by Huo Lianghan.
The next second, Huo Lianghan said, “Elder sister, please agree to shoot the food program. I really can’t do it without you.”
Zhou Youling finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Ever since Zhou Youling participated in filming Huo Lianghan’s food video, he had been eager for her to join more shoots.
Zhou Youling had no intention of going out, especially now that she was pregnant, making it inconvenient, so she had to refuse.
Huo Lianghan was unaware of Zhou Youling’s pregnancy, only knowing she was in B City preparing for the Food and Color branch.
Huo Lianghan said, “I’m already in B City. If you don’t agree, I’ll cry for you.”
