I'm Done with the Elite Marriage - Chapter 70
At one in the morning, Fu Xunzhou drove into B City.
Barely off the highway, Fu Hexu shouted, “Stop, stop, stop!”
As soon as Fu Xunzhou brought the car to a halt, Fu Hexu hurriedly pushed open the car door and began to vomit violently on the curb.
Fu Hexu had drunk a bit in the evening, and being tossed around in the car by Fu Xunzhou had left him dizzy for a while.
After vomiting, he simply sat down on the curb and cursed at Fu Xunzhou, “Are you insane driving so fast? Do you realize your big brother is sitting in the passenger seat? You’re completely reckless! You bastard!”
Fu Xunzhou got out of the car, handed a bottle of mineral water to Fu Hexu, and said expressionlessly, “My average speed was 110, which is normal on the highway.”
Fu Hexu didn’t care about any of that. “What are you doing in B City at this hour? Look at the street, there’s not a soul in sight! Where are you going to find Zhou Youling?”
Fu Xunzhou stood on the curb, looking around.
There weren’t many buildings near the highway exit, and the quietness was somewhat desolate.
He was unfamiliar with this city, but in fact, having traveled frequently for business over the years, he had become accustomed to unfamiliar cities.
When facing the unfamiliar becomes a habit, going home becomes a solace. But for Fu Xunzhou now, he felt like a walking corpse, with no place to call home.
Fu Xunzhou didn’t know how he could find Zhou Youling in B City at this late hour, but the memory of her crying on the phone earlier kept tugging at his heart, as if it were being torn apart.
In the three years of their marriage, Fu Xunzhou had almost never seen Zhou Youling cry. She was always gentle and graceful in front of him, never showing her grievances.
Her crying tonight made Fu Xunzhou anxious.
During this time, Fu Xunzhou restrained his impulse to look for Zhou Youling, to inquire about her. He wanted to give her a peaceful life, as she had asked, to never seek her out again. But in the stillness of the night, her image would invade his mind.
Especially since today was their wedding anniversary.
Fu Xunzhou eventually couldn’t resist dialing Zhou Youling’s number, even though he knew it would annoy her, but he shamelessly did it anyway.
Sitting on the ground, Fu Hexu tugged at Fu Xunzhou’s pant leg. “I can’t take it anymore, I need to find a hotel to freshen up, I stink.”
Fu Xunzhou looked at Fu Hexu sitting on the ground with disdain.
Fu Hexu played the sympathy card, “Look at me, being schemed by you, and still helping you plan to win back your wife, it’s too much.”
Fu Xunzhou moved his leg, which was being held by Fu Hexu.
Fu Hexu continued, “And where are you going to find her at this hour? Let’s rest for the night and ask around tomorrow.”
Fu Xunzhou sighed softly.
It was indeed late, and he had indeed been a bit impulsive.
With no other choice, Fu Xunzhou had to drive Fu Hexu to a hotel first.
However, on the way to the hotel, Fu Xunzhou suddenly remembered that Zhou Youling had a very close female cousin who seemed to have married into B City.
If he remembered correctly, that cousin’s name was Rong Duanjing, and she had just had a baby at the beginning of last year. During those days, Zhou Youling had made a special trip to B City, saying she was visiting her cousin.
With a sudden brake, Fu Hexu nearly hit his head on the car, cursing in frustration.
Fu Xunzhou said, “I think I know where she might be.”
…
Early the next morning, Zhou Youling went to the hospital with her mother, Rong Huiying.
Neither mother nor daughter had slept well the previous night, waking up early to be the first ones there.
Early in the morning, Zhou Youling’s eyes were still a bit swollen.
Rong Huiying reached out to stroke her daughter’s long hair, comforting her, “Don’t be afraid, no matter the result, mom will be by your side to give you strength.”
These words were somewhat hollow for Rong Huiying, as she was actually the one most on edge.
Zhou Youling nodded.
Throughout the night, Zhou Youling had thought a lot. Regardless of the outcome, as long as there was hope, she wanted to keep this child. But she was also worried that her decision might be selfish.
At the hospital, after getting the paperwork done, Zhou Youling was the first to undergo the examination.
The medical staff reassured Zhou Youling not to worry too much, and she silently spoke to the little one inside her, “You must be strong.”
During the examination, the medical staff didn’t say much to Zhou Youling, and the room was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. This silence only added to the pressure Zhou Youling felt.
She closed her eyes, trying to calm her emotions, continuously speaking to the little one in her belly, “Be good, mom will give you anything you want in the future, just please don’t let there be any problems, okay?”
It was uncertain whether Zhou Youling’s prayers had worked, but after the examination, the doctor informed her of the results: “There’s nothing to worry about, just a normal pregnancy.”
Upon hearing this, Rong Huiying, who had been silently tense, was the first to cry.
“I knew it! I knew it!!”
Zhou Youling felt like crying too, influenced by Rong Huiying’s emotions. She sniffled, tidied her clothes, took the report from the doctor’s hand, and said happily, “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
The weight in her heart finally settled.
Feeling relieved, Zhou Youling took out her phone on the way back and quickly called Rong Duanjing.
Rong Duanjing was so thrilled upon hearing the news that she stomped her feet in place, exclaiming, “That’s wonderful! I told you there was nothing wrong!”
Overcome with joy, Zhou Youling said, “I really feel like I’ve survived a disaster, I’m so happy I can’t stop crying.”
“Silly girl, hurry back so you can see my Xingxing. Today Xingxing will say ‘aunt’ for the first time! He’s been talking about you all day, and he can’t stop smiling when he sees you.”
“Really? That’s amazing!” Zhou Youling wiped her tears and said, “I’ll be there soon, tell Xingxing to wait for me!”
“Okay, hurry up.”
Not long after the call ended, Rong Duanjing was greeted by an unexpected visitor-Fu Xunzhou.
Opening the door and seeing Fu Xunzhou again, Rong Duanjing’s face was filled with surprise and an undeniable admiration.
No matter how “awful” Fu Xunzhou was to Zhou Youling, one couldn’t deny that in his black coat, he was indeed a handsome man.
But admiration aside, Rong Duanjing knew whose side she was on.
At the door, Fu Xunzhou took the initiative to greet her, his voice cold yet pleasant: “Female cousin.”
Rong Duanjing waved her hand, “Don’t call me female cousin, I’m no longer your female cousin.”
Moreover, Fu Xunzhou was older than Rong Duanjing, and his presence was more imposing. Rong Duanjing had always felt uncomfortable with Fu Xunzhou calling her female cousin; it seemed too strange.
Fu Xunzhou didn’t dwell on it and said calmly, “May I ask, do you know where Youling is?”
Rong Duanjing’s heart skipped a beat, and she asked, “What do you want?”
Fu Xunzhou replied, “I want to find her.”
Rong Duanjing frowned and said, “Don’t look for her. She doesn’t want to see you, and you should know that.”
Fu Xunzhou paused but insisted, “I want to find her.”
“Why are you so stubborn?” Rong Duanjing’s frown deepened, “You didn’t care much about Lingling when you were married, and now that you’re divorced, your Fu Family keeps chasing after her. You know, our Lingling has a lot of people pursuing her now, and she’s really not interested in you.”
Having been rebuffed repeatedly, Fu Xunzhou’s heart was already full of scars.
He listened intently to Rong Duanjing’s words and finally said, “In the past, I never pursued her, not realizing how precious a relationship could be. Now I’ve come to understand, and as long as there’s a chance, I won’t give up. I want to pursue her.”
Rong Duanjing’s frown gradually relaxed. Looking at Fu Xunzhou’s sincere expression, she thought of her own husband, Mu Shao, for a moment.
Years ago, she and Mu Shao had broken up, but Mu Shao came back to pursue her again, just as sincerely as Fu Xunzhou.
Perhaps many men are like this, only cherishing what they’ve lost. Like the famous line from a movie: “Once there was a sincere love in front of me, but I didn’t cherish it. Only when I lost it did I regret it, and the most painful thing in the world is this. If heaven could give me another chance, I would say three words to that girl: I love you.”
Rong Duanjing coughed lightly, closed the door, and ignored Fu Xunzhou.
She feared that if she stayed for another three seconds, she would be “won over” by Fu Xunzhou.
Fu Xunzhou was accustomed to such setbacks. He calmly walked to the elevator to go downstairs.
There were two elevators, both showing ascending floors, but one was slightly faster.
One elevator opened first, and Fu Xunzhou stepped inside. As he entered the elevator, his phone rang. He reached for his phone, but it slipped from his pocket.
As Fu Xunzhou bent down to pick up his phone in the elevator, the other elevator door opened, and Zhou Youling and Rong Huiying walked out.
They passed by each other.
