I'm Done with the Elite Marriage - Chapter 6
Zhou Youling chuckled to herself, picked up her bag, and walked out of the restaurant.
Three years into their marriage, this was almost the first time Zhou Youling and Fu Xunzhou had truly clashed.
Perhaps it was for the best.
Today, Zhou Youling seemed a bit out of character in Fu Xunzhou’s eyes, but this was the real her. She wasn’t the obedient type; she liked to stir things up and never cared about others’ opinions. Over the years, Zhou Youling had learned that Fu Xunzhou preferred gentle and understanding girls, so she tried to be that way, striving to be the perfect match for him, excelling both in social settings and at home.
Zhou Youling always believed that as long as she kept pace with him, their marriage would last.
Clearly, she had been deluding herself.
It was getting late, and the night had already fallen quietly outside.
Zhou Youling looked up at the night sky and saw a bright moon. The Mid-Autumn Festival1 had just passed, and the moon was now a waning crescent. Though incomplete, it still shone brightly.
During the Mid-Autumn Festival, Fu Xunzhou was abroad on a business trip and couldn’t make it back for the reunion. Due to the time difference, Zhou Youling wanted to video call him several times but ended up just sending a message, not wanting to disturb his rest. She asked him to video call her when he had the chance.
But even late into that night, Zhou Youling never received a reply from Fu Xunzhou, let alone a video call. She felt a bit disappointed but consoled herself, thinking he was busy with work and needed understanding.
In every little thing, she thought of him first, but what was on his mind?
The ridiculous part was that the day after the Mid-Autumn Festival, Zhou Youling heard Jiang Sha sneeringly say to her, “The moon is rounder abroad; no wonder Elder male cousin doesn’t want to come home.”
Jiang Sha didn’t just say it; she even showed Zhou Youling a photo.
In the photo, Fu Xunzhou was sitting with his white moonlight, Xue Yining. Clearly, they had spent the Mid-Autumn Festival together.
It was a blatant threat, with Jiang Sha flaunting, “I think people should know their place. Do you really think you can replace someone by playing a role?”
Naive Zhou Youling had comforted herself at the time, thinking it was just a regular class reunion.
Now Zhou Youling had come to her senses.
A cold breeze suddenly blew by, causing Zhou Youling to shiver. Just as she was about to leave, a shadow appeared beside her, and her wrist was grabbed.
Looking up, Zhou Youling saw Fu Xunzhou, and a hint of surprise flickered in her eyes. She thought he had left, but he was still waiting for her. Her resentment and grievances seemed to dissipate, replaced by a faint happiness. It was always like this; whenever Zhou Youling felt disheartened, Fu Xunzhou’s slightest approach would break her resolve.
But the next moment, Fu Xunzhou’s words brought Zhou Youling back to reality.
“Have you had enough of this? If so, come with me,” Fu Xunzhou said coldly.
Under the streetlight, his face was stern and unyielding. With his naturally striking features, any hint of emotion made him intimidating.
In truth, Fu Xunzhou was exhausted. After a long day of work, the only solace he sought at home was shattered by Zhou Youling.
“Where to?” she asked.
“Back to the ancestral home,” Fu Xunzhou replied icily.
“Why should I go back with you?” Zhou Youling resisted. She had no fondness for anyone at the ancestral home; it was a place she avoided whenever possible, especially now that it was late.
Fu Xunzhou knew Zhou Youling’s reluctance, but he had promised his mother to return and couldn’t back out. Besides, tonight’s matter needed to be clarified; otherwise, no one in the family would have peace.
Yet, Fu Xunzhou was too weary to explain further, simply pulling Zhou Youling towards the car.
Zhou Youling instinctively resisted, pulling back, “I’m not going!”
“Then where do you plan to go?” Fu Xunzhou sneered, “Sorry to disappoint you, but that man has already been sent away. Feeling lost without him?”
Zhou Youling’s heart, which had finally calmed down, plummeted at his words.
“Believe it or not, there’s nothing between us. Please let go,” Zhou Youling insisted, retreating from his touch.
Realizing it was unseemly to argue in public, Fu Xunzhou released her.
Unexpectedly, Zhou Youling, wearing high heels, lost her balance and fell as he let go.
Pain, frustration, and disappointment couldn’t fully describe what Zhou Youling felt. Her hands hit the ground, tiny stones digging into her palms.
The pain in her palms seemed to pierce straight to her heart.
Fu Xunzhou was momentarily stunned, not expecting this outcome, and felt a pang of guilt. He reached out to help Zhou Youling, but she forcefully pushed him away.
Seeing her fall softened his heart, and he crouched down, saying, “Jiang Sha went back to the ancestral home and complained about you. Now the whole family is waiting for you.”
Recalling the unpleasantness with Jiang Sha earlier, Zhou Youling looked up, “The whole family is waiting for me?”
Were they all waiting to reprimand her? What had she done wrong?
Struggling to her feet, Zhou Youling coldly told Fu Xunzhou, “Fine, I’ll go with you.”
