Chapter 1
I have transmigrated.
I became a newborn little bundle.
When the midwife carried me to my father, his face was as long as ever.
Because, once again, I was a daughter.
Still wrapped in swaddling clothes, I used all my strength to squeeze out a smile at him.
Everyone in the courtyard clicked their tongues in wonder, all saying that this must be a bond between father and daughter granted by heaven.
Only then did my father take me from the midwife’s hands, finally managing a hint of a smile.
From that moment, I knew that transmigrating to ancient times as a daughter was nothing like the beautiful tales in historical romance novels.
In the early years, I would sometimes still think about the plots in those novels.
Before sleep, I would imagine myself falling asleep with the story of having the script of a Big Female Lead.
But very soon, the feudal era showed me its ugliness and horror in full.
When I was seven, my mother sent me to Girls’ School.
Going with me was also Lord Li’s ten-year-old daughter.
I loved the handkerchiefs she embroidered the most. I pestered her, insisting she give me one with orchids, and another with plum blossoms.
She treated me as a clingy little sister and agreed with a smile.
Then, blushing, she told me not to be naughty and to study embroidery properly-after all, we’d have to make our own dowries in the future.
I reached out and poked her rosy cheek, teasing her for being shy.
She got so annoyed that she threw a paper ball at me.
Before class was dismissed, we agreed that tomorrow we’d embroider the orchid pattern first.
But after that day, I never saw her again.
I missed her, wanted to ask if she had finished those two handkerchiefs.
I went to ask the teacher, but the teacher just looked grim and said nothing.
I wanted to find her, but discovered that since coming here, all I could see was this square patch of sky.
Later, I heard the maids and old women gossiping, and only then did I find out.
That day, when she got home and stepped off her sedan, she sprained her ankle and accidentally fell into the arms of a nearby coachman, who instinctively reached out and supported her arm.
But, unexpectedly, someone saw this.
Lord Li feared she had brought disgrace to the family name, so that very night, he ordered someone to chop off her hand with a knife.
