Chapter 35
Gu Feiyin’s mind was buzzing with plans as she prepared for the evening after work. She decided to enlist the help of the Red-Dressed Ghost to gather others for assistance. Writing flyers alone was painfully slow-after several days, she had only managed to produce around two hundred. At this rate, she’d never make progress. She figured that the Middle-aged Female Ghost and the others could help write. After all, most of them had at least completed nine years of compulsory education. Unlike her, who hadn’t even graduated elementary school, they’d surely be faster.
Her plan seemed flawless, and the thought of a brighter future made her work even harder. The kind boss watched as terrified visitors screamed their way out of the haunted house, nodding in satisfaction.
Thanks to the popularity of “Winner Takes All,” the haunted house had become a sensation. Lines stretched outside as curious visitors waited their turn. Those who hadn’t yet entered scoffed at the ones who emerged crying-until they went in themselves and came out sobbing. The swift role reversal was almost comically ironic.
The kind boss was so pleased that he approached Gu Feiyin with an unexpected announcement: “Xiao Gu, you don’t need to come to work tomorrow. Take a day off.”
Gu Feiyin, who had been happily planning her box lunch dinner, froze in shock. “…Not come? Did I do something wrong? I can fix it!”
The kind boss flinched at her sudden shift to a more sinister demeanor. “…I mean, you’ve been working nonstop without a break. Take a day off to rest at home. Come back the day after.”
Relieved, Gu Feiyin let out a sigh. The earlier panic had nearly scared her to death. “No, no, no, I don’t need a break! I’m not tired. I can keep working!”
The kind boss stared at her, torn between feeling speechless and touched. In this day and age, finding someone so dedicated to their job was truly rare.
With her job secure, Gu Feiyin left work feeling grateful. Her thoughts quickly turned to the box lunch shop’s Boss Lady. What delicious meal had she prepared today? Gu Feiyin hoped for an extra slice of meat to fuel her evening’s efforts.
That night, six ghosts gathered in the unfinished building. The Red-Dressed Ghost had brought along three others: the Headless Ghost, the Armless Ghost, and the Middle-aged Female Ghost. Neighbor Miss and the Old Lady rounded out the group, making six in total.
Three was the maximum the Red-Dressed Ghost dared to invite. Each ghost cost her two yuan per night, and just these few were already setting her back six yuan. Any more would be financially unbearable! Besides, the Red-Dressed Ghost and Old Lady Jumpy were also helping her, and she needed to buy candles for them as well. When she calculated the costs-six ghosts at two yuan each-it came to twelve yuan per night. Ten nights would be 120 yuan, and a hundred nights would be 1,200 yuan! That was nearly half a month’s salary. The expenses were terrifying enough to make her consider switching to plain buns for breakfast. The steamed bun shop’s Boss Lady made excellent buns-layered, chewy, and filling. At just 0.5 yuan each, they were affordable and satisfying.
Now, the ghosts were gathered around a coffin board, diligently writing flyers. They held ballpoint pen refills, which were tricky to handle. Though ghosts could exert some force to interact with objects from the living world, writing with pen refills was a challenge. Even for humans, writing with just a refill was difficult-it was small, flimsy, and lacked grip. For the ghosts, whose bodies were cold and stiff, controlling the refills was even harder. Occasionally, the refills would slip out of their grasp and fly across the room.
Gu Feiyin had only bought one ballpoint pen because pens were expensive-two yuan each. As long as the flyers were legible, she didn’t care about neatness.
After a while, the Red-Dressed Ghost groaned, rubbing her forehead. “You know, you’re not exactly broke. Have you thought about investing in real advertising? Like a big billboard-something everyone can see.”
Gu Feiyin kept her head down, focused on writing. “That’s way too extravagant. Those billboards cost thousands for just a few days. I’d rather write the flyers myself and stick them on the billboard. People will see them anyway, no need for the fancy stuff.”
The flyers were short-less than forty words each-and took only a few minutes to write. It wasn’t hard, and it didn’t take much time. Why waste money on something unnecessary?
The Middle-aged Female Ghost chimed in, “That’s true. But you could go to a copy shop and have them print the flyers for you. It’d be faster.”
Before Gu Feiyin could respond, the Red-Dressed Ghost rolled her eyes. “Copy shops charge 0.5 yuan per page. That’s expensive. She wouldn’t go for it.”
“It’s definitely overpriced,” the Middle-aged Female Ghost agreed. “My son used to print things at school for just 0.1 or 0.2 yuan per page. These shops are ripping people off.”
The Headless Ghost added, “0.5 yuan isn’t bad compared to the place I worked before. They charged two yuan per page.”
Gu Feiyin’s jaw dropped. “Two yuan? That’s outrageous!”
“Yeah, I’m glad I didn’t print anything there. Total scam.”
“No way I’m going there. That’s daylight robbery.”
“University copy shops are cheaper-about 0.3 yuan per page.”
“Even 0.3 yuan is expensive! Stop chatting and focus on your work.”
The Red-Dressed Ghost nearly shed blood tears. 0.1 yuan was considered pricey? These clueless, miserly ghosts!
Neighbor Miss gripped the pen refill tightly, her face pale. The Old Lady kept her head down, writing slowly. Occasionally, the refill would slip out of her hand, leaving scratches across the paper.
But it didn’t matter. As long as the words were legible, it was good enough.
The room fell silent, save for the sound of pens scratching against paper. Gu Feiyin worked diligently under the cover of night, writing until she grew too tired to continue. She had managed to produce over sixty flyers. The ghosts, with their stiff movements, had written less than half of her output, but their collective effort still made a difference. She handed over the pen. “Keep writing. I’m going to sleep. I have work tomorrow, and I don’t want to be drowsy.”
“Alright, go rest.”
The saying “many hands make light work” proved true. By morning, the flyers had piled up into a massive stack-over a thousand sheets. The Red-Dressed Ghost was particularly efficient, waking up at four to assign tasks. Each ghost was given three streets to cover, and by dawn, the flyers were plastered everywhere.
Gu Feiyin was amazed by their productivity. She happily handed out candles as payment. Her investment in the candles had paid off. Surely tonight, the Mulberry Tree would be covered in good news!
She went to work with high hopes, swapping one of her beef buns for a large steamed bun to save a yuan. It was a small but satisfying victory.
After two nights of work and spending 24 yuan, the entire neighborhood was covered in flyers. Gu Feiyin eagerly awaited good news. Meanwhile, Fumin Road was in an uproar. Residents gathered to gawk at the flyers plastered on walls and doors. Though the messages seemed ordinary, they gave people an eerie feeling.
After all, just days ago, Old Man Zhang had hired a Taoist to deal with the flyers. The Taoist claimed they were steeped in ghostly energy-proof that they were written by spirits. The ritual ceremony had cost thousands.
“What should we do? Should we hire a Daoist too?”
“Yeah. Ever since these flyers appeared, the stray cats that used to hang around my shop have vanished. Not a single one comes by anymore.”
“Exactly! I used to see stray cats and dogs everywhere. Now, I haven’t seen a single one in days.”
“Cats are supposed to be sensitive to spirits. If even cats and dogs are avoiding this area, doesn’t that mean…?”
The thought sent shivers down everyone’s spines, deepening the sense of unease.
Gu Feiyin waited anxiously for days, but to her dismay, not a single reply appeared on the Mulberry Tree. Every night, she returned home to find the tree bare-not even a leaf, let alone a flyer. The plastic bag she had hung on the tree was nowhere to be seen.
Her high hopes had turned into disappointment. “Doesn’t anyone know where Mu Mountain is?”
The Red-Dressed Ghost rolled her eyes. “You don’t even know which province or city Mu Mountain is in. Just knowing the name is like searching for a needle in a haystack. Don’t get your hopes up.”
“So I have to go to another province to post flyers? But I’ve finally found a stable job here. What if I can’t find another good job if I leave?”
The Red-Dressed Ghost sighed. “That’s not what I meant. Why don’t you invest in a smartphone? With a phone, you could post about your search online and get help from netizens.”
Of course, Gu Feiyin wanted a smartphone. But a phone cost over a thousand yuan, not to mention the SIM card, which was another hundred. Then there were monthly expenses like electricity for charging, phone bills, and data for internet access. The costs added up quickly-too quickly for her budget.
She sighed, staring at the flyers on the wall with a heavy heart. Why hadn’t anyone responded? Was Mu Mountain really so obscure? She tried to recall her memories of the mountain. All she could remember was that it was a mountain with a village at its base-Mu Village. Beyond that, she knew nothing.
If she had known this would happen, she would have explored more while she was alive. But with so much treasure in her pit, she hadn’t dared venture far.
Nearby, a group of high school students chatted as they walked home. “Have you heard? These flyers on the walls are haunted. They say ghosts wrote them.”
“Yeah, the messages are so creepy. I don’t even dare look at them when I walk home after night classes.”
“Me neither. The handwriting is so weird-like a child’s. But what kind of child would post flyers asking about Mu Mountain? My grandma says it’s probably ghosts asking for directions. That’s why the writing is so crooked.”
“There’s no such thing as ghosts.”
“There are! I woke up to use the bathroom once and saw a shadow fly past my window. It scared me to death! And my uncle, who works at the police station, checked the surveillance footage. No one was caught on camera posting the flyers. If it wasn’t ghosts, then who?”
“That’s terrifying!”
“Let’s hurry home! Don’t look at the flyers too much, or the ghosts might lure your soul away!”
Gu Feiyin’s ears perked up as she listened, stunned. Sure, the handwriting was messy, but jumping straight to ghosts? What kind of logic was that? Yet somehow, they had figured out the truth.
The Red-Dressed Ghost was equally shocked. They had been so careful, avoiding surveillance and ensuring no one saw them. Yet despite their precautions, the truth had been uncovered.
Gu Feiyin remained silent throughout the night. When she went to buy buns in the morning, the Boss Lady at the bun shop finally had a chance to gossip with her. For the past two days, she had been gossiping with others, and today it was finally Gu Feiyin’s turn. “Do you know where Mu Mountain is?”
Gu Feiyin replied, “I don’t know. Do you?”
“I don’t know either! Look at all those white flyers outside, they’re all asking about Mu Mountain. At first, they were only on our street, but now they’re all over the place!”
Recalling the conversation from the kids last night, Gu Feiyin said seriously, “I see a lot of flyers around, and they don’t seem to be a problem. Why is this flyer an issue?”
“How is it not a problem? Who asks for directions like that? It’s obviously a ghost asking for directions. If you say you know, the ghost will cling to you and make you take it home, and then you’ll never return.”
Gu Feiyin insisted, “It won’t happen. She’s just asking for directions. You don’t need to be afraid.”
The Boss Lady disagreed, “Well, just be careful. We’ve all chipped in to hire a Taoist to exorcise the ghosts.”
Gu Feiyin was stunned, “…??!!”
Hiring a Taoist? That’s terrifying! How is she supposed to put up more flyers tonight…?
…
Gu Feiyin sighed deeply. She hadn’t even covered the whole city with her flyers, and her plan was already falling apart. Despite all her efforts, she hadn’t received any information and had spent several ghost wages. Was it all for nothing? The thought made her heart ache, and she couldn’t even enjoy her meal.
Does she have to buy a phone after all?
The Red-Dressed Ghost mentioned that posting online is convenient, and if she could afford a trending topic, everyone in the country would see her ad. It would be much more effective for finding people or places.
She counted her money and considered buying a second-hand smartphone. Her requirements were simple: as long as it could access the internet and make calls. She’d have to buy a SIM card, and since the unfinished building had no electricity, she’d charge it at the haunted house. She’d choose the cheapest plan and, with some effort, she could manage to maintain a phone.
With this plan in mind, Gu Feiyin decided to check out phones after work. The thought of having a phone, despite the pain in her wallet, made her quite happy. After all, she would soon be a person with a phone.
While she lay in the coffin calculating her expenses, Ma Ao stood once again in front of the haunted house.
This time, he wasn’t here to challenge the haunted house but had a real matter to discuss with Gu Feiyin.
Five days ago, Ma Ao’s friend organized a challenge. Like Ma Ao, his friend was a horror streamer and had invited him to join. However, still shaken by the Long-haired Woman, Ma Ao was reluctant to engage with anything ghostly and declined. His friend had teased him about being superstitious, suggesting he might forever be known as Little Coward Ma.
His friend and five others went to Wawa Island, but during the live stream, something went wrong, and the broadcast abruptly ended. Since then, there had been no news. The local police had conducted a thorough search for seventy-two hours with no results, and hope for survival was dwindling.
With no other options, Ma Ao thought of Gu Feiyin. His intuition told him she was extraordinary and might be able to help.
…
Gu Feiyin was surprised to see someone looking for her again, and even more so when she saw it was the esteemed guest, Ma Ao. What could he want this time?
Ma Ao glanced at the Long-haired Woman’s normal legs and, suppressing his anxiety, asked, “Are your legs better now?”
Gu Feiyin grinned and patted her legs, “Hehe, they’ve been fine for days.”
Ma Ao chuckled awkwardly, but thinking of his missing friend, he said, “Actually, I’m here to ask for your help.”
Gu Feiyin was puzzled, “You need my help? What can I do for you?” She wondered what she, with no education or qualifications, could possibly do for him.
Ma Ao hesitated, wondering if she was trying to keep her abilities a secret, living incognito in the city.
“The thing is, I have a friend who, like me, does horror streaming. He heard about ghosts on Wawa Island and went there with five others to explore. But after they arrived, something happened, and they disappeared. The police only found their belongings, not them. I suspect they were taken by ghosts. I know it sounds unbelievable, but whether he’s alive or not, I want to find him.”
“Hmm? Taken by ghosts?”
“Yes, that’s my suspicion. I’m not sure, but I can’t just let it go, so I came to you…”
Gu Feiyin thought for a moment and said, “It’s possible. Some ghosts do like to capture people and hide them for fun.”
Ma Ao shivered, “Do you think there’s any hope?”
Gu Feiyin replied, “I don’t know. After so many days, there might only be bones left. But if the ghost finds them amusing, it might keep them around for a while.”
Ma Ao felt despair at the first part of her response but a glimmer of hope at the latter, only to feel more despair. He wiped his tears and said, “My friend is a good person. If he dies like this, it’s too unjust. Master Gu, would you be willing to come with me to Wawa Island?”
Of course, she wouldn’t refuse a request from such a distinguished guest, especially since he had helped expand the haunted house’s reputation. Plus, she might get a good meal out of it. With the cost of buying a phone, she decided to eat well for one meal and skip the next three days.
“Can we go at night? I have to work. I can’t just skip work during the day.”
Ma Ao was taken aback. It’s quite far, requiring a five-hour flight and then an hour by boat.
But having Miss Long Hair agree was already a blessing. He would talk to his boss and try to get two days off. This matter was urgent, and with no other powerful people to turn to, he had no choice but to seek Gu Feiyin’s help. Just hearing her speak confirmed he had found the right person; she was indeed formidable.
Worried she might change her mind, Ma Ao hurried to speak with the haunted house’s kind boss. When the boss heard Ma Ao wanted to request two days off for Gu Feiyin, he asked, “Two days? Where are you going, filming a show?”
Ma Ao couldn’t say he was taking Gu Feiyin to catch ghosts, fearing disbelief. He simply said, “Yes, we’re going to Wawa Island. You know it’s quite far, so we need time to travel back and forth. That’s why I’m requesting two days off.”
The kind boss said, “Are you collaborating with Xiao Gu? How are you collaborating? Is there a contract? Let me see.”
Ma Ao chuckled, “I’ll have my agent bring the contract over later, okay?”
The kind boss agreed, “Alright, you know there are many scammers these days. I need to check.”
Ma Ao nodded, “Yes, it’s good to be cautious.”
As long as he agreed, Ma Ao would provide whatever was needed. Regardless of the outcome, whether they found his friend or not, he couldn’t let Master Gu make the trip for nothing.
Relieved, Ma Ao got Gu Feiyin’s ID number and quickly booked two tickets for an overnight flight to Wawa Island. The next flight was at 8:30, and the timing was just right. They’d arrive around 1 a.m., rest in City B for the night, and take the earliest ferry to Wawa Island the next day.
Gu Feiyin was a bit worried about being away for two days, even though the kind boss had agreed. She expressed her dedication to her job, “Boss, wait for me. I’ll work even harder when I return!”
Two days away, and with such fierce job competition, her coffin was quite coveted. Someone might take her spot.
The kind boss waved her off, “Alright, go on.”
What kind of person is this? With a chance to move on to better things, why stay at the haunted house? No ambition.
…
Ma Ao wanted to head straight to the airport, but Gu Feiyin said she needed to buy something. He thought it must be something important for catching ghosts, which indeed required careful preparation.
He watched as Gu Feiyin entered a phone repair shop. What was she doing there? Was this shop not ordinary? Could it be that it secretly dealt with ghost-catching?
He sat in the car, watching her stay inside for about twenty minutes before coming out, seemingly empty-handed. He scratched his head and asked, “Where’s the stuff you bought?”
Gu Feiyin grinned, though spending money pained her, having a phone made her happy. She lifted the phone hanging around her neck, “Here, here, I bought a phone!”
Ma Ao was taken aback, looking at the old, unbranded phone she held, “This…”
“This phone was so expensive, it cost me 248 yuan!” She had bargained hard to get a 2 yuan discount. Though second-hand, it was a touchscreen and could access the internet. She also spent 120 on a SIM card, subscribed to a 29 yuan plan, and bought a 5 yuan strap to hang it around her neck. After this expense, she didn’t even want to eat for the next three days.
Ma Ao was puzzled, “…???” Are masters this frugal now?
“Does it look good?”
Looking at her eerie, bloodshot eyes filled with excitement, Ma Ao gave the most sincere compliment of his life, “It looks great!”
Of course, it cost over 200 yuan, how could it not look good?
…
It was Gu Feiyin’s first time flying. She knew about airplanes but had never flown because tickets were expensive. For travel, she would choose the cheaper train or bus. She thought she’d never fly in her lifetime.
They first checked in and then found a small noodle shop near the boarding gate for dinner.
Gu Feiyin was shocked by the menu. Why was everything at the airport so expensive?! A bowl of noodles cost 78 yuan?!
Ma Ao looked at the menu, “Master, what would you like to eat?”
Thinking of the 300 yuan she had just spent, Gu Feiyin dared not indulge, “…No, I’m not hungry.”
Ma Ao noticed her aura seemed even gloomier, thinking he might have offended her somehow. People around them seemed to be keeping their distance, “…Is it not to your taste? There’s a stir-fry place nearby, should we check it out? We should eat something; it’s a five-hour flight, and we might get hungry.”
Glancing at the wealthy guest, Gu Feiyin realized he was unfazed by a 78 yuan bowl of noodles. The stir-fry next door was even more expensive! She sighed deeply, comparing herself to others was infuriating, “You eat, I’m not hungry.” It was so expensive, even splitting the bill was beyond her means. She’d wait until they left the airport to eat; 78 yuan could buy a lot of good food outside.
Ma Ao was speechless.
His stomach growled, but how could he eat when the master wasn’t? And her expression when telling him to eat was terrifying…
He rubbed his empty stomach, painfully deciding, “Actually, I’m not that hungry either. Hehe, let’s go sit over there and wait for the flight.” He planned to sneak into a nearby supermarket to buy some snacks to eat in secret. The master’s expression when others ate was too scary; maybe she didn’t like people eating near her?
Finally, at eight o’clock, they boarded the plane.
Ma Ao had hoped to book business class tickets, but by the time he tried, they were all sold out. He settled for economy class, choosing seats in the middle section. As they boarded, he overheard some girls excitedly discussing the arrival of a certain celebrity group. It turned out to be a six-member band from a talent show, likely heading to City B for an event. What a coincidence to be on the same flight.
Gu Feiyin, oblivious to the commotion, leaned against the window, fiddling with her new phone. It was quite entertaining, though she wasn’t very adept at using it yet. She made a mental note to ask the Red-Dressed Ghost where to post her messages online. The battery was already low after a short while, so she carefully hung it around her neck, feeling the pangs of hunger. In hindsight, she regretted not grabbing a box lunch earlier.
Sighing, she succumbed to the fatigue of hunger and drifted into a light sleep against the window. Her curiosity about how planes flew was minimal, given her past experiences of flying daily. Soon, she was fast asleep.
The plane took off smoothly, but before the meal service began, Ma Ao’s hunger intensified. Glancing at the sleeping Gu Feiyin, he discreetly took his bag to the restroom, where he retrieved the cookies he had secretly bought. They were delicious-crispy, fragrant, and sweet-so good they nearly brought tears to his eyes.
He quickly devoured five cookies, satisfying his craving, and saved a few more in his pocket for later. After tidying up, he emerged from the restroom, only to find Master Gu awake and staring at him with an unsettling gaze.
“Ah, you’re awake. I just went to the restroom,” he stammered, feeling guilty.
She, too hungry to muster much energy, simply acknowledged with a nod.
As he sat down, the rustling of a plastic bag caught her attention. Her gaze shifted to his clothes, and Ma Ao, feeling like a thief caught in the act, nervously laughed. “It’s nothing, just some… cookies,” he said, offering them to her. “They’re quite tasty. Would you like to try one?”
Her eyes lit up. “Sure, I’d love to.”
Despite their coal-like appearance, the cookies smelled wonderful. She took a bite, relishing the crisp, sweet flavor. It was even better than the Malevolent Ghost she had once devoured-crunchy and delicious!
“Can I have another one?”
Ma Ao, flattered, replied, “Of course, have as many as you like!”
What a kind soul!
After two cookies, her hunger subsided enough to last the five-hour flight. Once they landed, she planned to find a noodle shop for some braised beef noodles, which were filling and satisfying. To stave off hunger, she quickly fell asleep again, leaning against the window.
Ma Ao watched her sleep, her face obscured by her hair, making her look eerily mysterious. Unable to sleep, he observed the plane filled mostly with young women, many holding cameras with long lenses. The cabin buzzed with excitement as they discussed their plans upon landing-transportation, hotel bookings, and following Shen Yue’s group. They even had roles assigned for who to photograph. The organized fandom was impressive, unlike his own followers who merely called him Little Coward Ma during live streams and held banners with the same nickname at events.
His fame paled in comparison to Shen Yue’s, so he remained unrecognized.
Soon, the flight attendants began serving drinks. When they reached Ma Ao, he glanced at the sleeping Master Gu and whispered, “I’ll let you know if she needs anything.”
The attendant smiled and quickly moved on.
After the drinks, it was time for the meal service. The aroma of food roused Gu Feiyin from her sleep, though she initially thought she was dreaming. Determined to continue dreaming of food, she resisted waking up.
The in-flight meal was surprisingly good, offering choices of chicken rice or chicken noodles, along with yogurt and fruit-a feast for the famished. Ma Ao chose the chicken rice, adding some chili sauce, and devoured it with relish.
When Gu Feiyin finally awoke, she saw Ma Ao eating heartily. For a moment, she was confused, realizing it wasn’t a dream-someone was indeed eating!
Her mouth watered at the delicious aroma of meat.
Ma Ao felt a chill down his spine, sensing her gaze. He turned to see Miss Long Hair staring at him with her dark eyes, giving him the impression of being caught sneaking a bite.
“Master Gu, you’re awake. Are you hungry? Would you like some chicken rice or chicken noodles?” he offered.
Gu Feiyin hesitated. She wanted both, but considering how expensive everything was, she couldn’t bring herself to ask.
Looking around, she noticed everyone else was eating too. Clearly, these were wealthy individuals who didn’t mind the cost!
Seeing her silent and seemingly burdened, Ma Ao grew anxious. Unsure of what to do, he quickly called over a flight attendant. “Could we have another chicken rice and a juice, please?”
The attendant smiled. “Of course.”
Ma Ao said, “The chicken rice is quite good. You should try it.”
Resigned to her hunger, she agreed. “Alright, I’ll try it.”
This meal would have to last her for the next six days.
Humans were truly insatiable. As a ghost, she could go decades without eating, but now, missing one meal left her ravenous.
The attendant soon brought the meal. Starving, she could smell the delicious aroma even before opening the box. Eating something so expensive felt like a sin, and she could only hope the Malevolent Ghost on Wawa Island would be filling enough to sustain her for the coming days.
With anticipation, she opened the meal box, only to freeze in shock.
Instead of fluffy white rice and savory chicken, she saw a pale, ghostly face staring back at her, its eyes rolling mockingly as if playing a cruel joke.
Gu Feiyin was puzzled.
Ma Ao, watching her, wondered if she was dissatisfied with the meal. He leaned over to see for himself and was horrified.
He screamed, jumping up and scattering yogurt and bread everywhere, thankful he had already finished the chicken rice. Otherwise, rice would have been all over the floor.
“A face! A face! There’s a face!” he yelled.
Gu Feiyin glanced at him, then calmly stabbed the face with her plastic fork and ate it. Though it tasted dry and bland, she wasn’t picky-it was filling!
Ma Ao was speechless.
With the face gone, the chicken rice was revealed-fluffy, fragrant, and delicious. She took a deep breath, savoring the aroma, and quickly dug in. It was delightful!
Ma Ao’s outburst drew attention, and a flight attendant approached with a smile. “Sir, is there anything I can assist you with?”
Could he really say he saw a face in the meal box, and it was eaten by Miss Long Hair?
He rubbed his eyes, wondering if he had imagined it.
“No, nothing, sorry for the disturbance.”
“No problem. If you need anything or feel unwell, please let me know.”
“Alright, thank you.”
Ma Ao picked up the scattered yogurt and bread, resuming his seat. Watching Master Gu eat without a care, he was about to ask her about it when a woman’s scream erupted from the front: “Ahhh, there’s a ghost!”
Ma Ao looked up to see a middle-aged woman, pale and frantic, shouting, “There’s a ghost! I saw a face in my meal box! There’s a ghost on this plane!”
His heart raced. He hadn’t imagined it-there really was a ghost on the plane!
