Chapter 4
Dad still found us.
He knelt in front of me, begging, “Daughter, do you want to see me hacked to death? I really have no way out, how can I repay millions! Now they’re willing to show some mercy, as long as you go work outside for five years, all my debts will be wiped clean-just five years!”
So unfamiliar, the world is so unfamiliar, so absurd.
Dad burst into tears, kowtowing to me again and again, his forehead hitting the floor with a sharp sound: “Just five years, as long as you take more medicine every day… take more and you won’t get pregnant, Anan, please save your dad!”
When my mom came home from work and saw this scene, she threw herself at him with a heart-wrenching scream: “You’re not human! Get out of here!”
The two of them tangled together, fighting. My dad grabbed my mom by the neck, his eyes wide with terror: “What else can I do! You have no idea how cruel their methods are. I’ve seen them do it with my own eyes-they really do hack off people’s hands, cut out people’s organs!”
My mom struggled desperately with both hands, like someone drowning, coarse gasps hissing from her throat, but my dad still didn’t let go, the veins in his arms bulging with effort. It was at that moment-
Bang-
Dad turned around in disbelief.
It was me. I raised a trophy high above my head.
And smashed it down with all my strength onto the back of Dad’s skull.
