Chapter 26
I arrived early downstairs at the company.
The platform offered a wide view; standing here, one could clearly see the intersection.
I watched the time carefully and called Zhou Heng.
From the receiver came the sharp shout of Zhu Wanwan:
“Why are you wearing headphones? Can’t you talk to me face to face if you have something to say?”
“Is it inconvenient for you?” My tone was gentle. “Then I’ll contact you another time.”
“It’s fine, go ahead.”
I hesitated, then asked:
“Actually… I just wanted to thank you. Thanks to you, I feel much better, so I wanted to treat you to a meal.”
“Sure, send me the time and place.”
The next second, Zhu Wanwan’s voice suddenly soared:
“Dinner?! You promised to be with me today, who are you having dinner with, you bitch? Shu Yan, is that you? You really have no shame, you’re already divorced and still clinging to someone else’s husband-”
“Enough! Haven’t you had enough?”
“What did I say wrong? She’s a bitch! And you’re yelling at me for her? I don’t want to live anymore, stop the car! I want to go home!”
I heard the sound of her yanking the car door open through the receiver.
Immediately, the system’s alarm sounded.
“Are you crazy? This is a main road!”
Zhu Wanwan screamed hysterically:
“I’ll take your son with me and die together, so you’ll regret for the rest of your life that you spoke up for that old woman today!”
I held my breath, staring at the familiar silver-gray Range Rover in the distance.
It swerved awkwardly into the side road.
The adjacent entrance to the underground garage had long been blocked by debt collectors.
But today, Zhou Heng seemed to have forgotten.
The car picked up speed, and only slammed the brakes hard as it neared the flower bed.
Before it even came to a complete stop, Zhu Wanwan, heavily pregnant, jumped out of the car, frantically yanking open the driver’s door.
Zhou Heng was pulled down by her, running his hand irritably through his hair, almost pushed into the passenger seat by her.
The car remained motionless, and the sound of their argument could be heard even through the glass.
It wasn’t just me who saw it; those staking out downstairs also recognized Zhou Heng’s license plate.
