Chapter 11
It started raining in the evening.
My foot slipped, and I tumbled into a shallow pit at the foot of the slope.
A warm liquid gushed from my lower body at once.
I instinctively dared not look down.
Zhou Heng, like a madman, tore off his clothes and covered me with them, rushing down the mountain in only his shorts and vest to find help.
I soaked in the cold rain and bloody water until my body went numb from the chill.
By the time I woke up again, the surgery was already over.
It was a shabby, drafty little clinic in the town.
They could only save me in the most direct way.
The price was that I could never get pregnant again.
I was only 25, just two months pregnant.
I couldn’t take it.
I begged Zhou Heng to divorce me.
He refused no matter what.
Without discussing with anyone, he went ahead and had a vasectomy.
He lay in his hospital gown at my bedside, crying, begging me over and over:
“Honey, please… don’t leave me… The child is gone, let it be gone. I only want you! Without you, I truly can’t go on…”
His parents rushed over.
The whole family knelt before my parents, pleading for forgiveness.
I believed him.
Believed his words, “If we divorce, I’ll die with you.”
Believed that while I was unconscious, he went to every temple in the mountains, kneeling until his knees bled, just to pray for my safety with all his heart.
I also gambled on the eternity of these tears and vows.
But now?
I stared fixedly out the window at those two who were glued together.
The suspicion in my heart finally settled-
Zhu Wanwan touched her belly, while Zhou Heng obediently crouched down, pressing close to her lower abdomen.
Her red dress traced out a faintly rounded curve.
What a touching moment full of tenderness.
I laughed until tears wouldn’t stop.
He had actually gone and had the reversal surgery.
