Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 55
Meng Loudi sighed inwardly. What to do? He’s just too adorable. Ah, indeed, Jiang Chenyi, who can tolerate his antics, is truly his perfect match.
“Of course, as a lover, partner, boyfriend,” the man declared.
Jiang Chenyi replied, “Then I accept. I’ll avoid talking to Madam Shen.”
A small concession for love, the young man didn’t mind. Though he felt a bit sorry for Shen Baihe, as long as it helped them stay together, what did it matter? And why did he feel a sense of compliance with the other’s actions?
Meng Loudi leaned in to kiss him, but the young man caught his chin, saying, “No.”
“Why not?”
Weren’t they lovers? Jiang Chenyi had admitted it.
Jiang Chenyi swallowed, “Well, I’m shy, okay? Give me some time to accept the reality.”
Shyness was genuine, but he was really afraid that after a kiss, the man might want to do more. It was a bit embarrassing.
Meng Loudi’s dark eyes bore into him, watching as he wished he could disappear into the ground.
“Alright, since Chenyi is shy, we’ll make up for it later,” the man said, a bit displeased.
He used to never refuse him. Well, they’ve only known each other for two days. Their Chenyi is a modest good boy. Meng Loudi made a mental note to make up for it later.
“So, what shall we do?”
“Want to play Go?”
“…No, something else,” Jiang Chenyi refused. He didn’t want to be crushed again.
“How about chess?”
“No, it’s hard to beat you.”
Meng Loudi sighed, “Oh, I even went easy on you, and Chenyi still says that.”
“…”
“So, what do you want to play? Chenyi, what do you want?”
“Something neither of us has played before, starting from scratch,” the young man suggested, wanting fairness.
So they started playing international chess. They played for a long time. Jiang Chenyi lost track of time, only knowing he was crushed again.
The young man lay on the bed, crying softly. Meng Loudi leisurely put away the chessboard, his voice pleasant, “What’s wrong, Chenyi?”
Jiang Chenyi, back to him, huffed, “I don’t want to talk to you!”
“What? Can’t take losing?” the man teased.
The young man stiffened, angrily sitting up to glare at Meng Loudi, “Who can’t take losing?! I’m just questioning my life after losing so much!”
“Hahaha, Chenyi, you’re so cute,” the man laughed, his beautiful face full of joy.
The young man, pacified by his beauty, turned away, “Hmph, who would believe your nonsense?”
“Don’t you believe me?” Meng Loudi repeated his trick, hugging the young man and pulling him down onto the bed.
Held by him, the young man pouted, letting himself be pulled onto the bed, clutching the man’s wide sleeve with some resentment, “You’re bullying me too much!”
Always bullying him! Dog man! Wasn’t he supposed to be cherished and adored, treated like a treasure? Although he’s a man, there’s nothing to pamper. But it’s clear he’s in a subordinate position.
This man is a wolf in fox’s clothing, huffing in anger. How dare he not go easy on him! Making him lose so badly! Is he mocking his intelligence?!
“Where did I bully you? Chenyi, I tried to let you win, but…” the man laughed, holding him.
Jiang Chenyi was mortified! Did he really go easy on him, and he still couldn’t beat him?! So angry, Jiang was about to explode!
Facing each other on the bed, the man’s arm around his waist, Jiang’s anger emboldened him. Looking at the smiling man, he mischievously grabbed his hand, bringing it to his mouth and biting down.
Of course, he didn’t dare bite hard. The hand was too beautiful; if he left a scar, Jiang Chenyi wouldn’t forgive himself.
Meng Loudi let him bite, feeling the warmth of his hand and the barely-there pressure.
“Chenyi, if you don’t want to nap, let’s do something else fun,” the man’s voice was husky, tempting Jiang to misbehave.
The young man quickly released his hand, wiping the saliva with his sleeve, embarrassed and shy.
“What! Who said I don’t want to nap! I’m going to sleep,” he blustered, turning away to face the other side, closing his eyes.
Meng Loudi, ever obliging, snuggled up, wrapping his arm around the young man’s waist, contentedly closing his eyes.
Jiang thought he’d have trouble sleeping, but he didn’t even know when he fell into a deep slumber. He slept soundly, waking only when Meng Loudi called him for dinner.
The young man, eyes still sleepy, looked at the man and suddenly smiled foolishly, hugging his neck like a puppy, mumbling, “So handsome, so handsome, and he’s mine.”
“Mm,” Meng Loudi’s heart melted, all coldness dissolving. There was no way he could leave him. They were intertwined, inseparable.
Once Jiang Chenyi was fully awake, he felt embarrassed again, mumbling as he got out of bed, avoiding the man’s gaze, stiffly leaving the room.
Dinner passed in a blur for Jiang Chenyi. He only remembered the man’s tender gaze and the affectionate look in his eyes. It’s maddening! This isn’t a person; it’s a supernatural being enchanting hearts.
But the young man knew he couldn’t escape this ship he’d boarded. So he decided to stay by his side, steady and secure.
After dinner, Meng Loudi dragged the still-avoiding Jiang to the second floor. This time, Shen Baihe followed them up.
“Mr. Jiang! I have something to say to you,” the woman said, her face filled with longing, looking at the young man.
Jiang Chenyi instinctively looked at Meng Loudi, who indeed showed signs of impatience. But he was here because of Shen Baihe! Why did he end up with her brother? He felt so guilty…
The young man was inwardly crying.
“Go ahead, but I’ll be watching,” Meng Loudi surprisingly allowed them to talk, but he insisted on being a spectator.
The young man reluctantly walked over to the woman, asking, “Madam Shen, what do you want to say?”
Shen Baihe, aware of Meng Loudi’s watchful gaze, dared not overstep. She looked at the young man, smiling, “Fate is cruel, isn’t it? I liked you first, but he got to you.”
“Uh, sorry,” the young man awkwardly scratched his head.
“It’s fine. Just seeing you is enough for me,” the woman smiled, “If he ever doesn’t want you, come to me. I’ll treat you well.”
“What nonsense? If you’re done, leave,” Meng Loudi pulled Jiang over, placing him by his side, giving the woman a look before leading Jiang into the room.
Jiang awkwardly waved at Shen Baihe, following the man inside.
“That’s too much, isn’t it? She’s your sister,” the young man muttered.
“She’s not,” the man glanced at him.
“What?”
Meng Loudi stopped, ruffling the young man’s hair, smiling, “She’s not my sister.”
“Uh,” Jiang was stunned. Isn’t that too much? Even if not a real sister, Shen Baihe is his cousin!
“Well, you’ll understand later. Come on, let’s play games again,” the man didn’t give him time to ponder, pulling him into another round of board games.
Jiang Chenyi was now dizzy from playing these games. Maybe he was too tired today; as they played, he fell asleep.
Meng Loudi watched as the chess pieces tidied themselves, the board moving to the floor, staying still.
The man changed the young man’s clothes into pajamas, contentedly holding him, ready to sleep.
Their breathing gradually steadied. The night had long fallen, and the house was silent.
But there was a sound from above. Tap, tap, tap. Like someone pacing back and forth, dragging heavy footsteps.
Then the footsteps grew quieter, changing in sound. One of the two sleeping on the bed opened his eyes, listening to the footsteps outside.
What was happening now? He looked at the person beside him, frowning. Quietly putting on shoes and a coat, he gently opened the door, peering outside.
There seemed to be nothing unusual. The young man looked at the hallway. What was that on the floor?
The light was dim, but there seemed to be something on the brown floor. A long, dark stain, intermittent. He stepped out, closing the door softly, walking over to crouch down, examining the mark.
It smelled metallic, unpleasant. Jiang Chenyi’s body went cold. Was it blood? He looked around, seeing the trail leading to the stairs.
His heart raced, making his limbs cold. His mind was dizzy, suffocating. Was there a dead body here?
The young man stood, lifting his foot to head toward the stairs. Was a body dragged down? Who? Did someone break in?
He followed the intermittent blood trail to the dining room. The door was ajar, seemingly silent.
“Uh,” the young man made an indistinct sound. If the murderer was inside, what would he do? Could he subdue them? So scared…
He froze at the door, hand on it, afraid to push further.
“Chenyi, go ahead and push it open,” the man’s voice urged him, coaxing.
