Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 111
“Chirp chirp, it’s so warm today, Young Master Jiang. It really feels like spring now,” the little sparrow perched on the young man’s shoulder, affectionately nuzzling him.
Jiang Chenyi gently stroked its warm little body and replied, “Yes, it’s already mid-April.”
“How are your eyes feeling now, Young Master Jiang?” the little sparrow inquired, gazing into his silver-gleaming eyes.
Jiang Chenyi instinctively touched his eyes, “Much better.”
Mr. Ghost has been working hard lately to help him master his abilities.
But what exactly is the purpose of the Eye of the Lunar Halo?
Other than seeing things ordinary people can’t, it seems to have no other peculiar uses.
Jiang looked over at the little sparrow on his shoulder, noticing two auras around it, one white and one green.
The same was true for Jiang Meng.
The man sighed.
The fates of the two little creatures seemed intertwined.
Jiang Meng squatted at the doorway, a small figure enveloped in a peaceful golden glow.
It looked nothing like an ordinary little cat.
It was now five in the afternoon.
They were waiting for Mr. Ghost to return.
Qianmian sat on the sofa, unusually conflicted.
The long-haired man in a black suit opened the car door and appeared before everyone.
Meng Loudi, with a radiant smile, pushed open the small wooden gate and strode into the house, ignoring the little one crouched on the ground and hugged his lover tightly.
“Chenyi, I’ve missed you so much!”
“Me too,” Jiang embraced him, taking a deep breath of the cool fragrance that enveloped him.
It was the scent of happiness.
Jiang Meng blinked his blue eyes, watching the scoundrel who had ignored him, and puffed up angrily, grabbing onto the man’s shoe.
“Meow! Look at me!”
Jiang watched the little one meowing at his lover and laughed, “I really don’t know what’s the deal with our Jiang Meng, it hasn’t grown at all?”
It had been a month since they found him, but he was still small enough to fit in the palm of a hand.
So adorable.
Mr. Ghost reached out, scooped up the little kitten, and with a tender smile, gently rubbed the little one, saying softly, “Could there be something wrong? I hope it’s not some strange illness.”
Jiang Meng: “Meow!” I’m fine!
Jiang Meng is a healthy little cat!
As the little cat showed its feisty claws, the bell around its neck jingled merrily.
The little black cat’s paw pads hit the man’s face, not hurting at all.
After teasing the little one, Mr. Ghost handed him back to his lover and said with a laugh, “He really has a temper, utterly adorable.”
“Right?” Jiang smoothed Jiang Meng’s fur.
Meng Jiang, like a well-behaved older brother, quietly carried away his calmer younger sibling.
In Meng Jiang’s heart, Jiang Meng and the little sparrow ranked just below their dads.
Mr. Ghost loosened his tie, removed his suit, and looked at Jiang Chenyi, “By the way, we need to make a trip the day after tomorrow.”
“Where to?”
“There’s a chief’s meeting in the deep forests and mountains,” Mr. Ghost explained.
“Are we going together?”
“Yes, that’s the plan.”
“Then let’s do that,” Jiang smiled, “We can take them with us, right?”
“Yes,” Mr. Ghost smiled, “Do you think something magical will happen?”
“Who knows?” Jiang Chenyi smiled mysteriously, his crimson lips curling in a cryptic arc.
He was somewhat looking forward to it.
Jiang Chenyi and Meng Loudi, along with their family of cats, dogs, and birds, set off for the conference.
In the northern forests, a meeting of the Alliance of Supernatural Beings was convened.
This meeting would determine their future and how they should continue to evolve.
Representatives from the four chiefless jurisdictions would attend.
When Mr. Ghost and the others arrived, most people had not yet shown up.
It seemed that tardiness was common.
In that open space stood an eight-story pagoda, ancient and aromatic.
The First Chief, Qing Hua, stood at the entrance, glancing at his watch and frowning.
Meng Loudi stood beside him, finding it odd that although the meeting was scheduled for today, only the two of them had arrived so far.
Qing Hua adjusted his glasses and said, “Even though everyone knows the meeting will be delayed by three to five days, this is a bit too much, isn’t it?”
The white-haired, refined man spoke softly yet his tone betrayed his irritation, “Are these guys trying to overturn the heavens?”
Jiang, stroking Meng Jiang, observed Qing Hua’s aura, a clear golden sheen.
He let the moonlight swirl in his eyes.
Qing Hua noticed his peculiar eyes and asked, “I heard Mr. Jiang has awakened the lunar halo, is that true?”
“Can’t you see for yourself?” Jiang pointed to his own eyes.
“It seems so,” Qing Hua appeared unconcerned as he twirled his watch, “I’ll call them again to hurry them up. They should be here soon.”
Before he could make a call, his phone rang.
“Hello? What’s up with Hua Se?”
It was the fox spirit’s voice on the other end, “Hahaha, you guessed wrong, it’s me~ Qing Hua, baby, miss me?”
“…” Qing Hua’s face fell.
The fox spirit continued boisterously, “We’ve had a little mishap here, just wait a bit longer, we’ll definitely be there the day after tomorrow!”
“What happened?”
“Nothing, nothing, gotta go.” The fox spirit hung up cheerily.
Qing Hua looked at Mr. Ghost, offering a helpless smile, “You heard? The meeting will likely start only the day after tomorrow, but rest assured, we’ll take good care of you two in the meantime.”
“That’ll be trouble,” Mr. Ghost replied politely.
As Qing Hua sighed and turned to enter the pagoda, Jiang and the little ones played outside.
Meng Loudi sat on the grass, watching the heartwarming scene before him.
Suddenly, a plump little mushroom burst beside him.
It transformed into a shadowy little boy, curled up next to him.
“You Ling?” Meng Loudi raised an eyebrow.
“Yes,” You Ling nodded.
“Have you been here all this time?”
“Yes.”
Awkward.
Mr. Ghost, watching the mushroom trying to minimize its presence, turned to Chenyi.
Since the other party didn’t elaborate, he didn’t press further.
Thus, the two chiefs watched Jiang Chenyi playing tag with the black dog, the little black cat excitedly squealing from the young man’s hood.
Exhausted, Jiang Chenyi leaned against a tree, massaging Meng Jiang’s fur.
You Ling suddenly spoke, “Be careful.”
“Careful of what?” Meng Loudi tilted his head, his expression nonchalant.
“The Eye of the Lunar Halo is important, so be careful with your lover. You don’t want him to die, right?”
“Chenyi, you don’t need to worry. Aren’t you on their side?” Meng Loudi smirked, enjoying the drama.
You Ling tilted his head, expressionless, “I’m not on anyone’s side. We agreed no factions.”
He was serious.
Meng Loudi laughed.
The mushroom whispered, “Did you know? This world contains countless others, each independent yet interconnected. With the ‘key,’ you can achieve the impossible.”
“Causality, or something else?” Mr. Ghost peered at him, his dark eyes unfathomable.
You Ling tilted his head, “You’re fierce, aren’t you? Why can they only see the surface?”
“Because they choose to see only the surface, don’t they?”
“True. When you desire something, you overlook the insurmountable mountains,” You Ling lowered his head, “Lucky me, I want for nothing.”
“Nothing at all?”
“Nothing. To me, everything is void.” You Ling looked at the smiling young man.
“I’ve always wondered why I live, why I became a demon, why I persist, and what this world is all about.”
“Have you figured it out?”
“Not at all. I still don’t understand why to do meaningless things.”
“What things are meaningless?” Mr. Ghost scoffed, “There’s no such thing as ‘meaningless’ in this world, only what you perceive as such. You Ling, you lack the passion to live, so you can’t be a ‘normal person.'”
“Do you have it?”
“Of course.”
“Is it because of him?”
“Yes, Chenyi gives it to me.”
“Goodbye.” After speaking, You Ling vanished into the ground with a pop.
As a mushroom, he liked to dwell deep in the earth, pondering his thoughts, feeling secure.
Annoying demon.
You Ling thought.
He was bragging, flaunting his source of passion.
Mr. Ghost, having boasted, dusted off and went to find his little wife.
Jiang Chenyi sat under the tree, the big dog resting its head on his legs, enjoying the human’s affection.
The little black cat, perched on the young man’s knees, stretched out a paw to swipe at Meng Jiang.
Now that it knew it was the most pampered “little son” in the house, the kitten grew more audacious.
It never missed a chance to bully anyone, especially the big black dog.
Meng Jiang, ever patient, didn’t mind the cat’s swipes.
“Finished talking?” the young man petted the big dog, turning to Meng Loudi.
Mr. Ghost plopped down beside him, leaning on his shoulder, “Done. He’s a friend. That little mushroom didn’t want to stir trouble but still came to warn me.”
Jiang leaned to kiss his lover’s hair gently, “Isn’t that good? One less enemy.”
“True.” Mr. Ghost grinned wickedly, extending his right hand to clasp his lover’s left, “Chenyi, do you think they’ll act tonight?”
“Guess?”
“Any bets?” Mr. Ghost whispered.
“I have a bad feeling,” Jiang tilted his head, “Yes, if you win, you can do whatever you want.”
“Me too,” Mr. Ghost said sweetly.
Jiang made a decision, “I bet it happens tonight!”
“Ah, you beat me to it. Then I bet it won’t be tonight,” Mr. Ghost laughed merrily.
Either way, he wouldn’t lose.
Jiang Meng watched his sweetly doting parents and roared in frustration, “Mew-ow!”
Jiang, seeing the fluffed-up little black cat, chuckled and scratched its little head with his other hand.
“Just like you, a real jealous type,” Jiang accurately remarked.
Mr. Ghost: “…”
