- Chapter 46 - What Was I Thinking Before?
The atmosphere eased somewhat when the names Jiang Xianyu and Su Linyuan were brought up.
The police took statements from the three of them.
It was at this moment that Su Linyuan learned that Wang Wei was Jiang Xianyu’s ex-boyfriend.
Looking at Wang Wei’s pale, cowardly face, Su Linyuan crossed his arms and couldn’t help but compare.
He was better looking, taller, and from his clothes, obviously wealthier.
How could such a toad-like man have dated Jiang Xianyu?!
If they hadn’t been in the police station, he would have bluntly asked her if there was something wrong with her eyes.
The police then asked about the relationship between Su Linyuan and Jiang Xianyu.
Jiang Xianyu was about to speak when Su Linyuan cut her off, “We’re friends.”
Jiang Xianyu was surprised by his response.
Su Linyuan ignored her astonishment.
In front of her ex-boyfriend, claiming to be his housemaid would have made it impossible for her to hold her head high.
Women wear their battle dresses to an ex’s wedding to look formidable, and the current situation was no less a battle.
Though being a housemaid is nothing to be ashamed of, to the judgmental, everything appears tainted.
Given Wang Wei’s character, one could guess the kind of dirty thoughts he might entertain.
Su Linyuan wouldn’t let Jiang Xianyu be demeaned or defeated.
The police continued to inquire about the incident.
Jiang Xianyu didn’t hide the truth, simply stating that Wang Wei had insulted her first, prompting her to slap him, and when he tried to retaliate physically, she fought back.
Su Linyuan, having seen her being attacked, stepped in to defend her righteously.
The police questioned Su Linyuan, who recounted the events truthfully.
Wang Wei, wary of Su Linyuan and when questioned by the police, was hesitant to lie, mumbling through his account of what he had said to Jiang Xianyu.
The police, sensing dishonesty, took a stern approach with Wang Wei.
The details were not yet fully discussed when the police who had gone to get the supermarket surveillance footage returned.
The footage showed Wang Wei following the two, and as soon as Su Linyuan left, he rushed out to confront Jiang Xianyu.
Although Jiang Xianyu had slapped him first, it was clearly in response to his provocation.
Then, as Wang Wei attempted to assault her, Jiang Xianyu fought back.
It showed Jiang Xianyu knocking Wang Wei down with a shopping cart and then hitting him with her bag. This was the first time Su Linyuan looked at her approvingly since the fight had occurred.
A female officer beside them remarked to Jiang Xianyu, “Young girl, you’re quite composed.”
Jiang Xianyu smiled awkwardly, “Nowadays, security is good, and there are many good people around. I knew nothing serious would happen, so I stayed calm.”
The female officer gave a comforting smile and didn’t pursue the conversation further.
Since the person who was hit had provoked the incident and had been stalking them, the police did not punish Jiang Xianyu and Su Linyuan further. After educating both parties, they were made to compensate the supermarket for the damages and were then allowed to leave.
Su Linyuan was dissatisfied with this outcome.
But Jiang Xianyu calmed him down.
With the surveillance footage proving she had struck first, she didn’t want to waste more of Su Linyuan’s time over the incident.
Jiang Xianyu knew that after Wang Wei realized Su Linyuan’s identity, he was probably scared out of his wits. Now, revenge was out of the question; he was likely worried they might cause trouble for him instead.
Especially considering his mediocre work skills, without her looking after him at the company, his days were probably not going well.
There was no need to dwell on such a person.
The main point was, in the whole incident, only the other party got hurt.
If you looked into it, it was quite complicated.
On the drive back, Su Linyuan remained silent.
Jiang Xianyu sat quietly in the passenger seat.
Su Linyuan glanced at her, his tone dripping with sarcasm, “You really should get a pair of glasses. What were you thinking before?”
Jiang Xianyu looked at him but said nothing.
Su Linyuan felt a tightness in his chest, “Should’ve thrown a few more punches earlier.”
Jiang Xianyu glanced at him again, her voice gentle, “Fighting isn’t good.”
Speaking of fighting, Su Linyuan eyed the bag resting on Jiang Xianyu’s lap and raised an eyebrow, “Next time, I’ll get you a bag studded with spikes. If anyone else dares to mess with you, just swing it at them.”
He then looked at her shoes, “Actually, wearing high heels occasionally isn’t bad. In a pinch, they can be used as a weapon.”
Jiang Xianyu’s mood had lightened by now, and she was willing to banter with him.
“High heels are tiring to walk in, and I’m not always in danger.”
Su Linyuan didn’t respond this time.
Jiang Xianyu said, “Deduct the money we paid to the supermarket from my salary.”
Su Linyuan agreed readily, “Alright, noted.”
The fight had taken place in the aisle between the sanitary pads and skincare products sections.
Quite a few bottles and jars had been damaged.
The total came to several thousand yuan.
He thought about how Jiang Xianyu’s salary would be deducted by the housekeeping company, so it was better to deduct this amount from her salary and later compensate her with a bonus.
Jiang Xianyu was surprised that Su Linyuan agreed so easily; she had expected to have to argue more.
This was better; it made her feel more at ease.
Back at the villa, Jiang Xianyu sorted the gifts she had bought and planned to deliver them to Jinxiu Garden when she had time.
Dinner was lavishly prepared by Jiang Xianyu.
Su Linyuan noticed she still felt some guilt towards him.
Earlier, when Su Linyuan was driving, Jiang Xianyu had noticed his knuckles were a bit red from hitting someone.
His skin was naturally fair, making it more noticeable.
Throughout dinner, Jiang Xianyu used serving chopsticks to place food on Su Linyuan’s plate several times.
After showering that night, Su Linyuan knocked on Jiang Xianyu’s door with a hairdryer in hand.
“Help me dry my hair,” he said.
He was confident that the apologetic Jiang Xianyu wouldn’t refuse him, and it would even make her feel better.
Sure enough, Jiang Xianyu didn’t refuse.
Once again enjoying the hair drying service, Su Linyuan closed his eyes in comfort.
Men’s hair isn’t long, so it dries quickly.
Su Linyuan thought he should get a hairdryer with a lower wattage.
Hmm, drying too fast damages the hair.
That night, Jiang Xianyu slept deeply, and she seemed to dream.
In the dream, her father was hitting her with a stick, and she endured the pain without dodging.
Then, a tall figure burst in; she couldn’t see his features clearly, only knowing he was very tall.
He blocked her father’s stick, his voice firm-Jiang Xianyu! You’re not wrong!
That voice calling her name was familiar, and gradually, the tall figure merged with Su Linyuan.
Jiang Xianyu woke up, still feeling that sense of reassurance.
She shook her head, thinking it must be the influence of yesterday’s events.
They say you dream about what you think during the day.
Soon, the weekend arrived, and a guest came to Banshan Villa.
Qin Tao rang the doorbell outside.
Through the electronic peephole, Jiang Xianyu saw a woman with two bun hairstyles.
She didn’t recognize her, so she called Su Linyuan over.
Seeing who it was, Su Linyuan opened the door with a sour expression.
Qin Tao’s voice arrived before she did, “Cousin, when did you start keeping cats? I saw a cat house by the garden.”
