From Dropout to Housemaid-The Upper Crust's Favorite - Chapter 118
After Shen Yanzhi overheard the incident about hiring male models, Liu Lijun pulled Jiang Xianyu into the bedroom, determined to give her best friend a proper pep talk.
“Xiao Yu, be bold and fearless! Think about the determination you had when you went home for the New Year-you’ve already drawn a clear line with them, so what’s there to be afraid of? Even if they stir up trouble later, you’ll have ways to fight back. As for Mr. Su’s opinion of you, don’t worry about it.”
She leaned in and whispered confidently in her ear, “I think Mr. Su is a romantic fool. The fact that he’s kept your hair tie on his wrist for so long says a lot about his feelings.”
“Even if things don’t work out between you two, so what? You’ve already slept with such a handsome man, girl, you’ve won! Think about it-giving your first time to Mr. Su is way better than to those mediocre guys who act like they’re kings.”
Liu Lijun was a self-proclaimed face connoisseur, and this was her most honest opinion.
“Look at men nowadays-so many broke ones go out to mess around. Instead of marrying someone whose character is questionable, why not just snag Mr. Su? At least you know the experience will be amazing.”
“And if you don’t end up with Mr. Su, can you guarantee the man you marry won’t have wandering thoughts someday?”
“Which marriage isn’t a mess? At least with Mr. Su, he’s rich and can solve ninety-nine percent of marital problems. Isn’t that great?”
“Studies show that the more mediocre a man is, the more confident he becomes. Give him a little money, and he’ll turn bad. I think Mr. Su is leagues better than them. Trust my judgment when it comes to men, sister!”
She wasn’t trying to badmouth men intentionally-there were good ones out there. Her own Professor Shen was one of them.
Jiang Xianyu was stunned by Liu Lijun’s words.
Could things really be understood this way?
The way she explained it made Jiang Xianyu feel like not being with Su Linyuan would be a huge loss.
And honestly, her words did make some sense.
Her biological father was a mediocre man, and how did that turn out? He ended up making a complete mess of their lives.
“I understand. I’ll seriously consider what you said.”
Liu Lijun patted her shoulder. “That’s the right way to think.”
In the afternoon, Jiang Xianyu stayed at Liu Lijun’s place until around three o’clock before heading home.
She put down her bag and lay on the bed, her thoughts restless.
Her best friend and her husband had practically injected her with adrenaline, but now that adrenaline was cooling down, she couldn’t afford to chicken out.
Just then, Su Linyuan’s call came through.
Jiang Xianyu nearly jumped up.
She fumbled to answer the phone. “Hello?”
Su Linyuan’s voice came through, calm and steady. “Xiao Yu, are you free tonight? Let’s have dinner together.”
He was seriously pursuing her.
Jiang Xianyu felt her adrenaline surge again, afraid she might back out. She quickly replied, “Okay.”
The pen in Su Linyuan’s hand slipped onto the desk with a crisp sound. “You said okay?”
Happiness had arrived too suddenly.
“If you didn’t hear it, forget it,” Jiang Xianyu said, her naturally reserved personality making her hesitate as he confirmed her response repeatedly.
“I heard it! You said okay!”
His tone lifted slightly, carrying a hint of excitement. Even through the phone, his good mood was palpable.
Jiang Xianyu clutched the bedsheet tightly, twisting it nervously. “I don’t want to eat out tonight.”
“Then I’ll pick you up and bring you to my place,” Su Linyuan offered.
“Okay.”
Saying that, she felt a sudden weight lifted from her heart.
Under Su Linyuan’s instructions, Qian began preparing dinner.
When Su Linyuan went to pick up Jiang Xianyu, Qian had just finished setting the table and left for the evening.
Su Linyuan timed everything perfectly. By the time they arrived, the dishes had only been on the table for a few minutes.
As Jiang Xianyu entered the house, she didn’t see Qian and asked about her.
Su Linyuan replied casually, “Oh, Qian had something to do. She left after making dinner.”
Jiang Xianyu didn’t think much of it. Back when she worked as a housemaid here, her evenings were her own time too.
Sitting at the dining table, the once-familiar scene now made her feel a bit nervous. Perhaps her mindset had changed.
She pursed her lips and asked, “Can I… have some wine?”
Su Linyuan looked surprised. “You want to drink?”
Jiang Xianyu nodded.
Drinking would give her courage.
Su Linyuan walked over to the wine cabinet. “Red wine okay?”
The alcohol content was low, suitable for the evening.
Jiang Xianyu’s gaze lingered on the wine cabinet. “I want brandy.”
Su Linyuan paused mid-motion. “Are you sure?”
Brandy had a much higher alcohol content.
“Sure,” Jiang Xianyu said with a determined look.
Su Linyuan chuckled and grabbed a bottle of brandy. “Alright, I’ll drink with you.”
Jiang Xianyu stopped his hand as he reached to pour the wine. “I’ll drink alone. You need to drive me home later.”
Su Linyuan sighed. “You really are…”
Honestly, he didn’t mind her staying here. Her room had always been kept ready.
But this was just her personality.
“Fine, I’ll just eat with you.”
The amber liquid poured into the glass, and Jiang Xianyu raised it to drink.
Su Linyuan stopped her. “Eat something first to line your stomach. Don’t hurt yourself.”
Jiang Xianyu obediently set the glass down.
She was drinking for courage, but health was important too.
Jiang Xianyu’s tolerance was impressive-one glass, two glasses, three glasses, four glasses…
Yet her mind remained clear, showing no signs of intoxication.
Her determination startled Su Linyuan. When she reached for a fifth glass, he stood up and took it away from her.
“What’s wrong with you? Are you trying to get drunk?”
Jiang Xianyu lowered her head, her long lashes casting shadows under the light.
Her ears were slightly red, her face showing a faint blush that hinted at drunkenness.
Seeing this, Su Linyuan thought to himself, She’s probably drunk.
He rolled up his shirt sleeves and scooped her up as she leaned unsteadily toward the table.
Jiang Xianyu obediently nestled into his arms.
Su Linyuan’s usually composed gaze flickered with a hint of darkness.
He placed her on the living room sofa, pulled a blanket over her, and got up to make her some honey water.
Just as he turned, Jiang Xianyu reached out and grabbed his hand. Her fair face was flushed, her eyes reflecting the light above like scattered stars in a clear spring.
She stared at him without saying a word.
Su Linyuan froze, his heartbeat quickening.
But realizing she was already drunk, he sighed and gently pried her hand off, placing it back on the blanket.
She must be drunk-she’d never act this way otherwise.
“Be good. I’ll make you some honey water. It’ll help you feel better.”
Jiang Xianyu slowly released his hand, her drunken eyes hazy as she asked, “Do you know how to make it?”
Su Linyuan replied with mock irritation, “Three days apart, and you should see me in a new light. My character has evolved. Honey water is basic-I’m not an idiot.”
Jiang Xianyu laughed, pulling the blanket up to reveal only her head. “Mm, you’re the best. Don’t forget to use warm water.”
Her compliment nearly made Su Linyuan retreat in defeat.
Who taught her to praise people with that expression?
His self-control was weak.
