After getting in the car, I was the first to speak, softly apologizing to Qin Li, “I’m sorry for letting you witness that embarrassing scene. Thank you for helping me out today.”

“Miss Miranda, there’s no need to be so polite. Everyone encounters scum at some point,” Qin Li said casually.

“He wasn’t like this before…”

“People change; the soul is the most unstable thing.”

I gazed out the window, hesitated for a moment, and asked, “But if a person’s soul hasn’t changed, only their body has, would they still be recognized?”

He turned his head and looked at me deeply.

“If it’s an enemy, they’d recognize you even if you turned to ash,” Qin Li said. “If it’s a lover, there’s no reason not to recognize you. If they don’t, it only proves they don’t love you enough.”

I lowered my head, my fingertips gently tapping the edge of my bag. His words led my thoughts back to the moments Meng Yichen and I shared.

Not enough love?

I couldn’t confidently answer this question, but saying Meng Yichen never loved me seemed impossible.

He remembered every little habit of mine and paid attention to the wishes I casually mentioned, trying his best to fulfill them.

When I was sick with a fever, he stayed by my side all night, taking care of me without rest.

When I broke down and cried, he would hold me in his arms, gently patting my back, patiently waiting for me to finish venting.

Thinking back now, these sweet memories have turned bitter and painful because of an unstable soul.
