Duan Chen remained silent the entire way.

Once we got in the car, he glanced at my calm expression and finally lost his temper. “You like him that much, huh? So much that you’d even defend his cheating?”

“Let him leave first? What, are you afraid I’ll punch him again? Li Yucheng, how come I never realized before that you’re such a love-struck fool?”

“Have you said enough?” I frowned.

“No!” Duan Chen cut me off. “Twelve years of us-just thrown away like that. How long have you even been with him? And you’re already so smitten you can’t see straight. Li Yucheng, you’re unbelievable.”

“If I had known earlier that he was the kind of guy who can’t stay loyal, I would never have let you go to him!”

His chest heaved violently. The words coming out of his mouth were harsh, but his expression betrayed a deep hurt, as if I had inflicted the greatest injustice upon him.

I found his words amusing. “And how exactly would you have stopped me? Duan Chen, you’re just my friend.”

He fell silent for a moment, then suddenly laughed. “Li Yucheng, sometimes you’re sharp, but other times, you’re so hopelessly stupid it’s ridiculous.”

“I told you, I don’t want to be your friend,” he said, locking eyes with me. A strange, indescribable premonition surged through me.

And in the next moment, his words confirmed it. “It’s because I want to be your lover.”
