From Breakup to Vows, Marrying My Ex to Prove a Point - Chapter 2
Once my mom was certain that Mu Shi and I were over, she introduced me to her college classmate’s son, Qin Xuan.
“Xiao Qin is a bit younger than you, but he’s a very sensible and mature young man.”
It wasn’t until we met that I realized my mom was talking complete nonsense.
Qin Xuan had just graduated from college. Our first meeting was at an arcade.
A crowd of young girls clapped and cheered as he tore it up on the dance machine.
Such a childish boy.
I waited off to the side, feeling disdainful, and suddenly missed Mu Shi even more.
Qin Xuan won me a pile of stuffed animals, and after dinner, he drove me home.
Bored, I arranged the dolls one by one, took a picture, and posted it to my Moments.
That night, after I got out of the shower, I noticed that Mu Shi had actually liked the post.
It was the first time he had liked one of my posts since we broke up.
My spirits immediately lifted. I clicked on the full-sized image and studied it for a long time, finally spotting Qin Xuan’s hand on the steering wheel in the corner.
The fingers were long and slender with well-defined knuckles. It was clearly a man’s hand.
I excitedly sent a message to Susu: “I think Mu Shi still has feelings for me.”
She sent back a string of question marks: “Chen Nanjia, you broke up three months ago. Get a grip.”
“I have a grip. He still has me in his heart.”
Actually, Qin Xuan was a nice person, but I knew myself well. To put it nicely, I was delicate; to put it bluntly, I had princess syndrome.
In all my years, the only people who could tolerate my temper were my mom, Susu, and Mu Shi.
Even when I insisted on eating river snail noodles on a small table on his bed and ended up knocking the bowl over, he didn’t get angry. He just calmly cleaned up the mess and even cooked me a new bowl.
I booked an appointment with Mu Shi online and went to his hospital for a consultation the next morning.
When he heard I wanted a subdermal contraceptive implant, he furrowed his brow slightly, but his expression quickly returned to its usual calm. “Have you been sexually active recently?”
I stared at his handsome eyes above the mask. “You’re my boyfriend, wouldn’t you know?”
After a moment of silence, Mu Shi said coolly, “Miss Chen, I feel I must remind you that we broke up three months ago.”
He had never spoken to me in such a distant and indifferent tone. My nose tingled, and I almost burst into tears.
“Sexual activity… not yet. I’ll think about it after the procedure.”
The truth was, I had only come to ask about the implant because I’d heard it could help with menstrual cramps, but clearly, Mu Shi had misunderstood.
As he filled out the order for tests, he said with a cold face, “For your health, it’s recommended you still use protection even after the procedure.”
Based on past experience, I was almost certain he was angry.
I took the forms from Mu Shi and left, but after walking a bit, I circled back. I found him with his back to me, his head slightly bowed, talking to a young girl in a patient gown.
“I’ve looked at your test results. All your levels are normal. You can be discharged today.”
His voice was very gentle, a stark contrast to his tone with me just moments ago.
The girl said softly, “Dr. Mu, after I’m discharged, can I still come and see you?”
Her eyes, fixed on Mu Shi, were shining with undisguised adoration.
I stood frozen, my heart filled with a sour ache. My mind went blank, and I didn’t even hear what Mu Shi said in response.
By the time I came to my senses, the girl was gone.
Mu Shi stood a few steps away, gazing at me coolly. “Come here.”
Inside the consultation room, he glanced at the payment receipt in my hand and said flatly, “The blood draw won’t hurt. I can only write the order for the procedure after we get the results.”
He had always known I was afraid of pain.
I suddenly reached out and grabbed his wrist. “I don’t need it. I actually came to see you today.”
He was wearing his white coat, leaning against the desk. The mask covered most of his handsome face, leaving only a pair of cold, intense eyes fixed on me. “What for?”
There was no trace of emotion in his voice, as if he didn’t want to see me at all.
I sniffled and said defiantly, “Oh, to give you an invitation. I’m inviting you to my wedding.”
