Forgotten Love - Chapter 8
“Heard what?”
Gu Huaian retorted, his tone a little confused.
This time, it was Mom’s turn to fall silent.
Perhaps she was observing Gu Huaian’s expression.
After a while, she spoke again:
“Son, do you really not like Ruanruan anymore?”
“You can’t be like this…”
Mom let out a heavy sigh.
My heart tightened along with hers.
Clearly, Gu Huaian also sensed Mom’s sadness.
He hurried to comfort her, explaining:
“Hey, Mom, I was just joking with you earlier!”
“These past few days, I’ve had a little falling out with Shen Qingruan… with Ruanruan. She made me angry, and then she didn’t come to coax me.”
“A thirty-year-old man needing to be coaxed? How are you getting more childish as you get older?”
Mom’s words hit Gu Huaian’s sore spot.
He let out a stifled “oh” in frustration.
I couldn’t help but want to laugh again.
“Mom, I remember you used to always say Shen Qingruan wasn’t ladylike, and you never really liked her, right?”
“How come now you treat her better than me? Who’s really your own child…”
Gu Huaian muttered resentfully.
Mom couldn’t help herself and hit him again:
“You tell me why, huh? After your dad was killed, so many people were eyeing the Gu Family. If it weren’t for Ruanruan, you and I would have gone down to accompany your dad long ago!”
“Son, you’ve never gotten along with Ruanruan since you were little. Back then, I truly never thought Ruanruan would go this far for you.”
“Before you married Ruanruan, I was afraid you still had feelings for Lin Jiao. Didn’t I ask you what you really thought of Ruanruan?”
“What did you say yourself, have you forgotten?!”
Seeing Gu Huaian stammer, Mom’s tone suddenly sank.
There was even a faint hint of warning:
“You said, whether out of gratitude or love, you would never let Ruanruan down in this lifetime.”
“If you break that vow, you don’t need Heaven to punish you-just find a place and end it yourself!”
“Mom, I, I, um…”
A trace of confusion flashed in Gu Huaian’s eyes.
As if he was trying to remember something.
He pressed his hand to his forehead and let out a painful groan.
My heart jumped, and I hurried over to his side.
“Huaian, is your head hurting again?”
Gu Huaian stared blankly up.
His pale face made his dark eyes look even deeper.
My wrist was suddenly gripped tightly by his burning palm.
The warm water sloshed and spilled out.
“Shen Qingruan,”
He tugged at the corner of his mouth and tilted his head back.
Using my hand, he took a sip of water.
“You took so long to come. Aren’t you afraid I’ll cough myself to death?”
