Forgotten Love - Chapter 16
“Where did you go?”
As soon as I stepped into the house, Gu Huaian’s cold voice rang out.
Without thinking, I replied casually:
“I went to the company.”
“Why didn’t I see you at the company?”
“…I had an appointment with a client this afternoon, so I went out for a bit.”
I looked at Gu Huaian, whose expression was anything but pleasant, feeling puzzled:
“Did you need something from me?”
“Heh, what, I can’t ask if there’s nothing?”
Gu Huaian snorted through his nose.
Then, he lowered his head and started playing with his phone, ignoring me completely.
I had no idea what I’d done to offend this young master again.
I figured it was probably because the story I’d made up a few days ago was too outrageous, and he still hadn’t gotten over being teased.
So I didn’t pay much attention to the strange undertone in Gu Huaian’s sarcastic questioning.
A faint hint of jealousy lingered there.
During dinner, when I stayed silent,
Gu Huaian’s face grew darker and darker.
From time to time, noises reached my ears:
Chopsticks tapping the plate, the water glass being picked up and set down.
The sounds weren’t loud, but they grew more frequent.
In such a quiet atmosphere, it all felt a bit deliberate.
So, I deliberately coughed.
A sharp gaze instantly landed on me.
Just as I was about to speak, a sudden ringtone broke the silence.
Gu Huaian’s phone was sitting on the dining table.
Instinctively, I turned my head toward the sound.
By coincidence, I saw the caller’s name.
Yang Fan.
Gu Huaian froze for a moment, then hesitantly picked up the phone.
“I’m going to take a call.”
He looked a bit awkward as he headed to the bedroom.
When the call connected, he even closed the door behind him.
Less than ten minutes later, Gu Huaian returned to the dining table.
But he clearly seemed as if he’d suffered some kind of blow.
Distracted, he even poked his chopsticks into his water glass.
“Huaian, what’s wrong?”
I couldn’t help but frown:
“That call just now…”
“Ah, it’s nothing, let’s eat!”
Gu Huaian hurriedly cut me off.
His gaze wandered, completely avoiding eye contact with me.
That night, he sat on the sofa.
Sometimes lost in thought, sometimes frowning, sometimes sighing.
Every time I walked by, he’d immediately look up.
Mouth open, looking conflicted, as if he wanted to say something but couldn’t.
So that night, using work as an excuse,
I went into the study and opened the call recording.
Ever since Yang Fan suddenly showed up at the last gathering,
I’d been keeping an eye out.
I had installed a program on Gu Huaian’s phone.
As long as Yang Fan contacted him again,
all records would be sent to my computer.
“Brother Gu, what have you been busy with lately? I…”
Yang Fan’s enthusiastic greeting came through the headphones.
The next second, Gu Huaian coldly interrupted him.
“Yang Fan, I’ve recently recovered some memories.”
“Just remembered what you did to Shen Qingruan back then…”
There was a brief silence in the recording.
When Yang Fan spoke again, he clearly sounded guilty:
“Bro, let me explain, I really was just confused for a moment back then, that’s why I gave Sister-in-law some sleeping pills.”
“I-I just planned to take a couple of photos while she slept, I wasn’t going to do anything else…”
“Yang Fan, why are you still trying to argue?!”
Gu Huaian was furious, his voice suddenly rising:
“Was it sleeping pills or something else, you know better than anyone!”
“Bro, it really was just sleeping pills!”
Yang Fan was stunned, loudly protesting his innocence:
“I don’t even know why Sister-in-law suddenly woke up and lunged at me!”
“Her clothes and hair, she messed them up herself!”
“Bro, even if you gave me a hundred times the courage, I wouldn’t dare do anything to Sister-in-law!”
“…”
This time, it was Gu Huaian who fell silent.
