Chapter 6
I rushed to the door, pressing my ear against it to listen to the commotion outside.
The door suddenly swung open–it was my mom.
“Why aren’t you up yet? Your dad’s boss’s son is already up. Come out quickly.”
What was going on?
I was dragged to the dining table, where I saw him lounging lazily in front of it.
My dad was enthusiastically serving him porridge and pouring him a glass of soy milk.
I was pressed into a chair by my mom, feeling like I was sitting on pins and needles.
“Li, you see, I’m not sure about your taste. Would you like soy milk or cow’s milk?” My dad pushed all the breakfast options in front of him.
In front of me, there were only two big white steamed buns.
“Give it to her; she loves it.” He pushed the soy milk towards me!
Was it just me, or was there a hidden meaning in his words?
For a moment, the atmosphere was a bit awkward.
“You guys…” My dad looked at him and then at me, while I buried my head, “I forgot to introduce you. This is my daughter, Ella Thompson, six years older than you.”
“Look at him, so polite.” My mom nudged me with her foot, signaling me to greet him.
My foot hurt, and I suspected my mom forgot who her real daughter was.
Was I impolite, or was he polite?
“Hello there.” I laughed awkwardly, “Little brother, eat more.”
I pushed the steamed buns towards him.
He raised his eyes, lightly arched an eyebrow, and said nothing. Instead, he picked up a bun, not eating it, just observing and smiling.
His smile made me feel guilty.
Was he human?
“Did you sleep well last night? I didn’t see you in the guest room and thought you had left.” My dad began to inquire about his well-being.
He didn’t answer directly but looked at me instead.
Did I have the answer written on my face?
I was just an innocent bystander!
“Probably went to the bathroom.” He started putting down his chopsticks, looking like he had no appetite, “Didn’t sleep too well in the first half of the night; I’m picky about beds.”
I… who was it last night, sleeping like a log beside me, pressing down so hard I couldn’t move my hair?
“Ah… Uncle was drunk last night too, didn’t take good care of you, don’t mind.” My dad looked troubled, clearly intimidated by his boss’s influence.
“Slept quite well in the latter half of the night.” He smiled again, looking at me.
Damn man, why don’t you just say it outright, torturing my little heart like this? Young men these days are really hard to deal with.
Finally, after finishing breakfast, my dad said he would take him back.
“Dad, you rest, I’ll drive him.” I volunteered, actually afraid he might sell me out.
“Alright… you young people have common topics.” My dad seemed awkward, probably not understanding why I suddenly became so proactive.
“No, I’d rather trouble Uncle to take me back.” He smiled and refused me.
Since he said so, my dad naturally couldn’t say much, quickly finishing up to prepare to leave.
While they were busy, I walked up to him and quietly asked, “Why won’t you let me take you? What are you up to?”
He lowered his head, his lips almost touching my face, “Next time, let me rest for a bit, okay?”
As someone older than him, his words made me blush, and I instantly jumped back.
“Don’t mess around.” I warned him in a low voice.
“When did I ever…” He shrugged helplessly, “If it weren’t for you… last night… who messed around…”
Damn it, he was laughing again.
“Shut up!” I wished I could seal his mouth with tape.
“So wild last night, shy today?” He stared at my flushed face, laughing even more freely.
“Get lost…”
“I’m leaving.” He waved at me, “Don’t miss me too much.”
After saying that, he acted as if nothing had happened and followed my dad downstairs.
