Chapter 21
“The wind is too strong, let me take you home.” Ryan Chen had already stood up, offering his suit jacket to me.
My mind was buzzing with thoughts of Liam Evans, leaving me unable to think straight. I hesitated for several seconds before finally responding, “Okay.”
He asked if I could still walk.
Of course, I had to say yes, even if I couldn’t. What was I supposed to do, let him carry me?
We walked for a while, and finally reached downstairs, only to see Liam Evans leaning against the flower bed, smoking, his head tilted back, looking at me with a roguish expression.
My heart skipped a beat, feeling as if I was caught in an affair.
“He’s my cousin,” I explained to Ryan Chen.
Ryan Chen’s smile froze for a moment, and after several seconds, he handed me my bag. “Do you want me to walk you upstairs?”
“No need.” I quickly refused, because I had no idea when Liam Evans, this ticking time bomb, might explode.
“Be careful when you shower tonight, don’t let your foot touch the water.” He gave a few instructions, glanced at Liam Evans, hesitated, but eventually turned and left.
I stood there, puzzled, feeling as though Ryan Chen didn’t quite like Liam Evans.
I thought carefully, there shouldn’t be any holes in the lie I told.
“Cousin?” As I was thinking, Liam Evans had already walked up to me, glancing at my foot.
“Sort of.” I was too lazy to argue with him.
He just smiled at me, leaving me bewildered.
“What a coincidence. He’s my cousin.”
My mind instantly went blank. The breath caught in my chest nearly choked me.
“You lied to me.” I was still unwilling to accept it.
“When have I ever lied to you?” He sighed, looking at me with amusement.
That’s it. Ryan Chen must have seen through my lie on the spot and chose not to expose me.
I felt like crying.
“He definitely misunderstood.” Now, even jumping into the Yellow River wouldn’t wash away this misunderstanding.
“Misunderstood what?” he asked me.
“You know what he misunderstood, he must think that you and I…” I couldn’t continue, feeling frustrated and embarrassed.
He remained calm, reaching out to support me.
I pushed him away, but he reached out again.
I glared at him, and he finally withdrew his hand, leisurely walking beside me. “Why are you upset? Haven’t we… hmm?”
“Liam Evans!”
“Don’t call my name so casually.” He stopped and looked at me.
“…”
“I’m afraid I won’t be able to resist.” He was truly shameless.
I ignored him, deliberately widening the distance between us.
After a few steps, I suddenly felt weightless, panicking as I tried to grab onto something.
“Your nails, be gentle. It’ll be hard to explain to Uncle and Aunt later.” With those words, I noticed a red mark on his neck from my nails.
“Put me down.” My face flushed with embarrassment.
“If I put you down, how long will it take you to walk?” He looked at me coldly. “If your foot hurts, just be good.”
With that, he carried me without hesitation, striding towards the elevator.
“There are cameras.” Just as we were about to enter the elevator, I reminded him to put me down.
He changed direction, heading for the stairs instead.
“Hey… why not take the elevator?”
He glanced down at me, whispering, “Didn’t you say there are cameras?”
“I meant for you to put me down, not to take the stairs. My foot is killing me.”
He ignored my struggles, carrying me up one flight before finally setting me down.
“Get on.” He walked down a few steps, gesturing for me to climb onto his back.
“Liam Evans, are you out of your mind? Who wants you to carry them when there’s an elevator?” I was truly amused by his antics.
“Get on.” He paused, “If you don’t, I’ll think you want me to kiss you.”
Threatening me again!
But knowing him, he’d actually do it.
