Chapter 18
Just as I returned home, a WeChat message popped up; the doctor had accepted my friend request.
I hesitated for a moment and added a note, “Ryan Chen.”
“Sorry, I had a patient earlier, just saw this.” He politely explained.
I replied without much enthusiasm, “No worries.”
As soon as I finished replying, I saw Liam Evans standing on the balcony, smoking.
He was tall, about 188 centimeters, but also quite thin. Especially under the balcony light, he looked even more frail.
I thought of Sophia Martinez’s certainty and suddenly felt a bit sorry for Liam Evans.
During dinner, he hardly ate, continuously staring at me, making me feel uncomfortable.
I had no choice but to avoid his gaze.
My dad offered him a chicken leg, “Li is so thin, eat more to nourish yourself.”
But he kept his eyes on me, disregarding everything else, and passed the chicken leg to me, “She’s thin too.”
My parents looked at us both, puzzled.
“I’m on a diet.” I moved my bowl aside, and the chicken leg fell onto the table.
His expression turned somewhat unpleasant.
“You child…”
My dad awkwardly tried to ease the atmosphere.
Thankfully, a WeChat message came in at that moment, and I buried my head in chatting. It was Ryan Chen.
“Want to take a walk by the river after dinner?”
I really didn’t want to stay with Liam Evans any longer, so I replied, “Sure, send me the location.”
As I stood up, my mom asked, “Where are you going during dinner?”
“I’m full, going for a walk by the river.” As I said this, I noticed Liam Evans also put down his chopsticks.
“Li, why aren’t you eating?” My mom looked confused.
He stood up, glanced at me, and coldly said, “Aren’t you afraid to go to the river alone?”
My heart skipped a beat; didn’t he realize this would make my parents suspicious about our relationship? How could he be so bold?
“A girl going to the river at night is indeed unsafe. Li, you haven’t seen the night view of the river yet, why don’t you go too?” My dad was truly a master at adjusting the mood.
But I thought he was just meddling; how could Liam Evans possibly go for a walk by the river with me, especially since I had plans with someone else tonight.
“Okay.” Until I heard Liam Evans say this, I was practically getting goosebumps. Was he really going?
“I have plans with someone.” I said, trying to keep my composure.
“Who did you plan with?” My mom immediately sensed some gossip.
I didn’t dare look at Liam Evans’s expression and sighed, “Who else, but the one you introduced to me?”
After saying that, the atmosphere fell silent for a moment.
“What’s going on? Ella Thompson has a boyfriend?” My dad also got into the gossip, surprisingly looking somewhat delighted.
“Almost, someone introduced him, I just gave him my contact info, didn’t expect you two to actually chat together, go on, don’t keep him waiting.” My mom was openly happy.
Scrape! The sound of the chair being pushed was too abrupt, and only then did we see Liam Evans toss the chair aside and turn to leave.
Me: …
My mom: ?
My dad: ?
After several seconds, my dad reacted, “He might be upset about his fiancée, understandable.”
“They haven’t made up after their fight?” My mom asked.
Listening to my parents’ conversation made me feel a bit uneasy.
“Ella Thompson, I see you and Li have been getting along well lately, why don’t you mediate between them?” My dad suddenly turned his attention to me.
“I’m not getting involved.” Me, a mediator? I’d be glad if I didn’t tear them apart.
“We need to think of something; he can’t keep staying here forever.” My mom said.
“You figure it out.” I tossed out this sentence and left the house.
