For Your Happiness - Chapter 52 - That Unforgettable Memory
Wu Di walked away proudly in front of those men, with Shao Han by his side. A smug smile spread across his face.
“What are you thinking about, smiling so weirdly?” Shao Han asked curiously.
“Nothing much, just feeling really happy and proud.”
“Why is that?” Wu Di looked at Shao Han. “Because you are so beautiful, yet you belong only to me.”
“Stop it.” Shao Han was pleased to hear Wu Di compliment her, but she shyly scolded him.
“You don’t know, it’s a matter of pride for a man to have his woman admired by others but belong only to him.”
“It’s the same for women. If their man is outstanding and admired by many women, but he loves only her, it’s the happiest feeling for a woman,” Shao Han said.
“It’s not the same. If other men look at his woman like hungry wolves, a man might feel like killing someone,” Wu Di told her seriously. “Women, on the other hand, feel proud to know that their man, despite the admiration of many, belongs only to them.”
“Hmph, you think you know everything.”
“Don’t you feel proud to have me?” Wu Di stopped and faced Shao Han.
“Er… Well, hmph, to keep you from being too proud, I’d better not be proud,” Shao Han said with a defiant toss of her head, though a mischievous smile played on her lips. Wu Di saw it and knew she was proud, but this stubborn little woman wouldn’t easily praise him. She was always tough-talking, not giving him the satisfaction unless he really pushed her. In a playful fit of pique, he pinched Shao Han’s nose.
“Ah! Stop it,” Shao Han exclaimed.
“Come on, let’s go shopping and eat something delicious,” Wu Di said as he pulled Shao Han into his arms and headed towards the parking lot.
“I’ve eaten so much good food lately, I don’t even know what’s delicious anymore.”
“That’s true. So, what do you feel like eating?” Wu Di asked.
“Let’s not plan it. We’ll just eat whatever we feel like when we see it,” Shao Han said, tired of the mundane daily meals without any distinctiveness.
“Alright, I’ll go with what you say, but are you sure you don’t want a romantic dinner tonight?” Wu Di asked Shao Han again.
“Do romantic dinners only exist today?” Shao Han playfully retorted.
“Haha, you’re right,” Wu Di laughed heartily.
“Wu Di, it’s also your birthday today. I have a little gift for you,” Shao Han said mysteriously.
“Oh? I don’t really need anything. What could you possibly get me?”
“It took me a long time to find it.” Shao Han pulled out a beautifully crafted small box.
“What is it exactly? I’m dying of curiosity.” Wu Di carefully took the gift from Shao Han’s hands, untied the elegant ribbon, and looked at her.
“Wow, a ‘77 edition pure gold-plated Golden Tortoiseshell ZIPPO, where did you find this?” Wu Di exclaimed excitedly, touched by her thoughtfulness.
“Hehe, well, I was just looking around for a gift for you and then I saw this one. It’s a commemorative edition from the year you were born, and I thought it was perfect, so I bought it. You don’t really lack for anything, and I thought it had a nice meaning,” Shao Han said, happy to see Wu Di pleased.
“Wow, you’re so adorable. Come here and give me a kiss.” Wu Di smiled and moved in to kiss Shao Han, who also puckered up and gently kissed him back.
“Do you remember what happened a year ago?” Shao Han suddenly grew solemn, smiling at Wu Di.
“Of course, I remember. Back then, I hadn’t won your parents’ approval yet, but I asked you to marry me.”
Time flashed back to December 12th a year ago.
“Come back early tonight, let’s celebrate. Should we invite friends?” Shao Han really wanted to celebrate alone with him but still asked.
“No, let’s not invite anyone. I’ll be back in the afternoon. Dress up nicely,” Wu Di said affectionately looking at her.
“I was thinking of going out to pick a gift for you.”
“Don’t run around, wait for me to come back, I have something important,” Wu Di said seriously.
“Okay.” Shao Han was curious but did not continue to press him.
As usual, Shao Han had tidied up the house, surfed the internet for a while to pass the time, when she received a call from Wu Di.
“Are you all dressed up?”
“Not yet. Are you coming back? Where are we going? What kind of clothes should I wear?” Shao Han was unclear about his intentions.
“I’ll be home in half an hour, get ready to come downstairs,” Wu Di still didn’t reveal the plan.
Confused, Shao Han figured it must still be a day for dressing up-perhaps a birthday party. She couldn’t figure out what Wu Di was planning and decided to dress carefully.
She wore a purple knit sweater with a black lace bubble skirt, knee-high boots, a black coat, and carried a black CHANEL bag as she went downstairs to wait for him.
Seeing him slowly pulling up in the car, Shao Han got in, frowning and puzzled.
“Where are we going?”
“Marry me,” Wu Di suddenly said, then shyly pulled out a beautiful little Box from his pocket and handed it to Shao Han.
“What?” Shao Han almost knew what was in the Box, but her heart still skipped a beat, never expecting such a scenario.
Indeed, it was a diamond ring. Shao Han, overwhelmed with emotion, nearly started crying.
“Why? Aren’t you happy? Why the tears?” Wu Di, though confident Shao Han would agree to marry him, was still a bit nervous-it was a real proposal, after all.
“Of course, I’m just too happy. But why today? I haven’t even prepared a gift for you.”
“Well, haha, now I’m expecting a gift,” Wu Di said with a half-smile.
“I think, today we should go and register our marriage,” Wu Di earnestly hoped to make the day doubly meaningful and unforgettable.
Both Wu Di and Shao Han reminisced about the events that occurred a year ago to this day, looking ahead as the car radio conveniently played a song that Shao Han loved to sing.
In the deep autumn, the breeze atop the mountain is slightly cool.
Side by side, the lovers foolishly watch the sunset.
I look up at the skylight you’ve opened just for me,
A patch of sunlight, three inches long, falls into the palm of my hand.
You say, in autumn, each inch of sunlight in our hand
Can grant one wish.
I hope the one I love is healthy, kind-hearted,
With broad palms that can embrace my little stubbornness.
Your romance is appreciated only by me,
Able to make tears grow wings and fly off my cheeks.
I also dream of waking you daily with the aroma of coffee, so you won’t stay in bed,
And of riding bicycles in the evening market on weekends.
My romance is appreciated only by you,
Letting us stay calm and not anxious on typhoon nights.
I have three wishes I’m not ready to share yet;
You think about them, ask the smiling moonlight.
Each of us holds a twinkling fairy wand,
It seems like there are stars at our fingertips.
Hot, but brilliantly beautiful,
A small amount of light held in our hands like the sun.
Wait until the end of the world to tell me,
That wish we’ll hold tightly together.
They didn’t speak, just waited until the song was over. Wu Di reached out and took Shao Han’s small hand, and she looked at him.
“Wu Di, can we love like this forever?”
“Of course, we can, as long as you stay the same, I will never change.”
“Really?”
“As real as it gets.”
“Haha,” Shao Han gazed at him, smiling foolishly.
