Farewell Summer - Chapter 10
Later, when I bought a wig, I still got one for Xie Shuyan.
Because several times, his students saw him and were utterly shocked.
I felt it undermined his authority as a mentor.
Xie Shuyan accepted it gladly.
From then on, we only took off the wigs when we were home.
A few months passed, and the treatment ended.
The condition was basically stable and hadn’t worsened further.
The monitor organized another small gathering to celebrate.
“Tingyue, how’s your health now? This time I won’t invite him, we’re mainly celebrating for you! Avoid any awkwardness when meeting.”
I had the phone on speaker while Xie Shuyan was fixing the light bulb.
He glanced at the phone screen and said calmly, “Tingyue and I will attend on time.”
The monitor choked on his phlegm, coughed for a while, then exclaimed, “Xie? Why are you there too?”
“I’ve reconciled with her.”
There was a sound of a cup being knocked over on the other end.
Xie Shuyan got off the stool, took the phone, and said, “I’m free on Saturday, just send the location to Tingyue.”
After hanging up, I hurriedly asked, “You have a night shift on Friday, maybe we shouldn’t go.”
The monitor only had time at noon.
Xie Shuyan would be back at ten on Saturday morning after a sleepless night, with no time to rest.
“No, we have to go.”
He tidied up the table and chairs with his back to me, speaking softly, “Ten years ago, we both missed the class reunion, I don’t want to miss this one.”
Watching his busy figure, I turned and rubbed my eyes, smiling as I said:
“Oh, then I’ll pick out a nice wig.”
“Okay, pick one for me too.”
