Chapter 56 – The Sacred Mountain in Myanmar (Part X)
Chen Shaoxian heard the howling roar from behind and knew that the mountain boar was seeking revenge. Although the cave was wide, once the mountain boar started its rampage, it was unbearable for anyone.
Suddenly, the roar behind intensified, accompanied by a huge crashing sound. Chen Shaoxian knew that the mountain boar and the drought demon were locked in combat, so he quickly reloaded his bullets and said to the others, “It’ll be trouble if they get to us. Let’s make a dash for it.”
The others, knowing time was of the essence, increased the frequency of their trigger pulls; gunshots erupted loudly, and the group made significant progress forward.
However, at that moment, illuminated by the firelight, a figure not much smaller than the mountain boar appeared behind the Earthbound Spirits, accompanied by a tearing, heart-wrenching scream. Everyone knew this figure to be the Inu Oni.
Upon the appearance of the Inu Oni, the Earthbound Spirits seemed to receive a command, stopping all movement and standing rigidly still.
Everyone could now see the appearance of the Inu Oni. It had no fur but was covered in dark red scales, with two large tumors on either side of its neck making it look somewhat disgusting. Drool dripped from its mouth, and its two blood-red eyes stared at Chen Shaoxian and his group. However, the eye in the middle remained closed.
The Inu Oni did not charge directly at them but glanced at Chen Shaoxian and the others, seemingly dismissing them as a threat. All its attention was focused on the mountain boar that was pursuing them.
Chen Shaoxian found the Inu Oni’s gaze disturbingly human-like and decided not to move, quietly telling the others to watch and see what would happen next.
The crashing sounds behind them ceased, followed by heavy thuds, indicating that the mountain boar had dealt with the drought demon and was charging over.
In a short while, it appeared ten meters away from Chen Shaoxian, looking a bit battered, suggesting a fierce struggle had just occurred.
On the massive tusks of the mountain boar hung half the body of the drought demon, which, incredibly, was still moving and biting at the mountain boar’s teeth, making a cracking sound.
The mountain boar was getting annoyed, so with a powerful flick, it tossed the drought demon off its tusks right under its feet. Lifting its foot, the mountain boar stomped down hard, the sound of bones shattering echoing throughout the cave.
This sound made all the living onlookers wince in discomfort.
Chen Shaoxian kept his eyes on the Inu Oni throughout. Just as the mountain boar appeared, Chen noticed the unopened eye in the middle of Inu Oni’s forehead twitch slightly. When the mountain boar crushed the drought demon, that middle eye flickered slightly. Suddenly, Chen felt as if the Inu Oni in front of him was almost human, its expressions and gaze unnervingly anthropomorphic.
After crushing the drought demon, the mountain boar stomped its foot on the ground, eyes fixated on the group that had injured it the day before. Suddenly, it caught sight of Chen Shaoxian and let out a low growl before charging.
Seeing the mountain boar charge, the Inu Oni’s scales tightened, and it let out a ripping roar.
The mountain boar’s attention was fully on Chen and his group, but upon hearing the Inu Oni’s roar, it quickly halted, shifting its gaze to the Inu Oni. Upon seeing the Inu Oni clearly, it roared as if facing a formidable enemy, then scraped its massive tusks on the ground as if sharpening knives.
The Inu Oni, hearing the mountain boar’s roar, roared back fiercely.
As the saying goes, two tigers cannot share one mountain. They hadn’t seen each other until now, but upon encountering one another, a battle was inevitable. Not wanting to engage in physical combat first, they began competing in volume, filling the cave with their monstrous roars.
Chen Shaoxian felt like his head was going to explode from their roaring. Thinking to himself, “If you’re going to fight, just do it already, stop all this noise,” he discreetly pulled the others aside, and using gestures, instructed them, “When I say run, you guys spread out and dash into the cave. Don’t worry about the flames on the sides; a burn is better than getting crushed.”
After briefing the others, Chen slung his shotgun over his shoulder and boldly walked towards the mountain boar, causing everyone else to watch anxiously.
The mountain boar, upon seeing the person who had wounded it, stopped its bellowing and, panting heavily, cautiously eyed Chen Shaoxian. Similarly, the Inu Oni ceased its cries and, also panting heavily, stared at Chen Shaoxian.
Xiao Zhuang and the others saw Chen Shaoxian walk up to the mountain boar, bow, and then point at the Inu Oni while saying something to the mountain boar. He then turned to face the mountain boar, suddenly spun around, and dashed back, with the mountain boar roaring and charging after him. Chen Shaoxian, running ahead, gestured with his hand as if asking the mountain boar to keep up with him.
The Inu Oni, seeing Chen point at it and say something, then saw the mountain boar charge towards it. Immediately, it let out a loud roar and charged at the mountain boar.
Chen Shaoxian, seeing the Inu Oni’s actions, yelled, “Run!” Upon hearing his shout, the others quickly scattered to either side, just as the Inu Oni rushed past them.
As the Inu Oni was about to collide with Chen Shaoxian, who was in the lead, Xiao Zhuang and the others anxiously shouted, “Shaoxian, dodge!” Before their words even finished, they saw Chen Shaoxian dive to the side, landing directly on a still-burning mummy. He quickly jumped up, thankfully unscathed due to wearing the Tianma Armor, just as the mountain boar and Inu Oni violently crashed into each other.
