Chapter 46 - Eradicating Evil in Hong Kong (Part VI)

Chen Shaoxian learned that Zheng Lei and the others had returned and went straight to Zheng Lei’s room. Pushing open the door with a troubled expression, he said, “I’m going back tomorrow. I can’t stay here any longer.”

Zheng Lei nodded in understanding of Chen Shaoxian’s feelings and joked with a wink, “You should head back soon.” He then patted Chen Shaoxian on the shoulder and added, “Thank you. Because of you, I can have a good life now. Don’t worry, the car is yours once you get back.”

Chen Shaoxian was so frustrated he could strangle Zheng Lei. Gritting his teeth, he said, “Book the tickets.”

Storming out of Zheng Lei’s room, Chen Shaoxian was not watching where he was going and bumped into someone. Looking up, he saw it was Zheng Ruirui.

Rubbing her shoulder, Zheng Ruirui glared at Chen Shaoxian, while Zhuo Junfan covered her mouth, giggling beside them.

Scratching his head, Chen Shaoxian apologized awkwardly, “Are you okay? I didn’t mean to.”

“Of course you didn’t mean it. You’re too heartbroken to do anything on purpose, right, our big hero?” Zhuo Junfan teased, laughing.

The comment made them both blush, standing there awkwardly.

Zheng Ruirui, face still red, glanced at Zhuo Junfan and said to Chen Shaoxian, “Shaoxian, what do Grandpa Liu and the others like? Junfan and I are going shopping and can pick something up for them.”

Chen Shaoxian slapped his forehead, realizing he had forgotten something important, and quickly said, “Right, right, we need to buy something to keep up the pretense.”

Hearing this, Zheng Ruirui’s eyes immediately welled up with tears, and she nodded slightly, pulling Zhuo Junfan to leave.

Zhuo Junfan became upset upon hearing Chen Shaoxian’s words, pointing at him and saying, “Ruirui came to me earlier wanting to buy gifts for your family. I asked her why she didn’t ask you to join, and she said you were too tired and it wasn’t convenient for you to go out, always thinking about you. Ruirui is such a wonderful person, and yet you take her for granted and even dare to say something like that.”

Zheng Ruirui tugged at Zhuo Junfan, which only made her more upset. Looking at Zheng Ruirui, she said, “Even now, you still defend him. Do you even hold any place in his heart?” This last sentence deeply hurt Zheng Ruirui.

Tears streaming down her face, Zheng Ruirui turned and walked away.

Zhuo Junfan panicked seeing Zheng Ruirui crying and quickly grabbed her hand, disregarding Chen Shaoxian, and hurriedly said, “Ruirui, don’t cry, I didn’t mean it.”

Chen Shaoxian was taken aback by Zhuo Junfan’s words, standing there helplessly, his heart tightening as he watched Zheng Ruirui’s tear-streaked face.

Suddenly, Zheng Ruirui looked up at Chen Shaoxian and said through her tears, “I know I can be very willful, and you really dislike me. I’ve been trying to change, but you always avoid me. This trip seemed like an opportunity to let you see me anew. I like you, maybe I really do not.” She broke down before she could finish her sentence.

I like you, Chen Shaoxian heard these words as if struck by lightning, staring blankly at Zheng Ruirui.

He walked over to Zheng Ruirui and said softly, “The first time I met you, you were always causing me trouble. Back then, I thought you were very mischievous and willful.”

Zheng Ruirui looked up at Chen Shaoxian.

“The second time I met you was on the street, on my birthday. That day, you saw my most vulnerable side. Since then, I’ve unconsciously been avoiding you. I’ve never really disliked you.”

As he watched Zheng Ruirui, Chen Shaoxian’s mind flashed through all the moments since they had met. He took a deep breath and confessed, “I know why I’ve been avoiding you now, because I like you.”

Upon hearing these words, Zheng Ruirui’s emotions overflowed into tears, crying even harder than before.

Chen Shaoxian reached out to cradle Zheng Ruirui’s face, gently wiping away her tears, “Stop crying, let’s go buy gifts together. If anyone dares to stare at us, I’ll pin them against the wall. I’m a celebrity now; I don’t have to be reasonable.”

Zheng Ruirui, smiling through her tears, nodded, then immediately shook her head, her voice hoarse, “Maybe Junfan and I should go instead.”

Zhuo Junfan shook her head at the two, “A match made in heaven, now that your relationship is official, I’m the odd one out.”

Zheng Ruirui, blushing, grabbed Zhuo Junfan’s hand and gave it a shake, causing Zhuo Junfan to chuckle.

Turning to Chen Shaoxian, she said, “We’re going out to shop, you know what that means.” She finished by playfully waving her hand in front of Chen Shaoxian.

Chen Shaoxian hastily began to search his pockets, but they were empty. He asked the others to wait for a moment and quickly ran back to his room.

Watching Chen Shaoxian dash off at high speed, Zheng Ruirui turned to Zhuo Junfan and said, “This isn’t good, is it?”

Zhuo Junfan snorted, “Let me teach you. There are three things to watch in a man: his appetite, his wallet, and…” she drew out her words, then began sizing up Zheng Ruirui from head to toe.

Zheng Ruirui blushed as she realized what was implied, and remembered how Chen Shaoxian had a nosebleed the night before, nodding emphatically.

Zhuo Junfan thought Zheng Ruirui would playfully argue back, but seeing Zheng Ruirui’s expression, she thought, “That’s it, Ruirui is totally smitten.”

Soon, Chen Shaoxian returned with a bag and handed it directly to Zheng Ruirui, but Zhuo Junfan snatched it away to look inside. “Why is it all cards? Isn’t there any cash? How can you spend this?”

Chen Shaoxian quickly mentioned that the PIN for the cards was six ones.

Zhuo Junfan nodded in satisfaction, handed the bag back to Zheng Ruirui, and turned to Chen Shaoxian asking, “Is this all you have?”

With a gasp, Chen Shaoxian remembered, “There’s also a check. I’ll go get it now.” As he turned to leave, Zhuo Junfan stopped him.

“No need to go now, you can bring it back later,” Zhuo Junfan said, then turned to Zheng Ruirui, gestured with a finger, and walked off with her.

The day after returning home, Chen Shaoxian and Zheng Ruirui went to visit Liu Iron Mouth.

The Liu Family was overjoyed to see Chen Shaoxian and Zheng Ruirui looking so sweet together, bustling happily all around. Later, Chen Shaoxian also visited the Zheng Family.

The Zheng Family already knew about Chen Shaoxian and Zheng Ruirui’s relationship. Zheng Tianpeng thought very highly of Chen Shaoxian and was very supportive, and the others considered him almost a son-in-law.

A few days later, Zheng Ruirui had to return to school to continue her studies. Though it was hard for them to part, Chen Shaoxian fully supported her decision to finish her education.

After Zheng Ruirui left, the two of them kept in touch every day.
