Ex-Husband Goes Bankrupt, Mistress Goes to Jail, I Remain Beautiful Alone - Chapter 13
It was clear that Gu Ze hadn’t listened to a word I said.
The next morning, I saw Gu Ze downstairs again.
He acted as if nothing had happened, handing me a steaming breakfast bag.
“You used to love the Soup Dumplings from this place, so I went and got some for you. Eat them while they’re hot.”
I glanced at the packaging and immediately recognized it as being from the bun shop in the northern part of the city.
I tossed it into the trash can right in front of him, my expression indifferent.
“I’ve always liked their Steamed Pork Dumplings. It was just that right after graduation, I was too poor to afford more than one serving, so I compromised for your taste.”
Gu Ze pursed his lips, looking awkward and uneasy.
“Sorry, I’ll go get you the right ones now.”
“No need, there’s no point in what you’re doing.”
Yet Gu Ze remained persistent.
On Friday, as the workday was nearing its end, it started pouring rain outside. Gu Ze rushed to the office, drenched, to bring me an umbrella.
I stared at the rain-soaked Gu Ze and frowned.
“I have a car, and I’ll be going through the underground garage. The wind and rain won’t touch me, so I don’t need your umbrella.”
After being repeatedly rebuffed by me, Gu Ze was downcast for a few days.
Upon learning that I had caught a cold, Gu Ze came to my door with medicine and soup he had made himself.
When a man opened the door, Gu Ze’s face changed instantly, his tone filled with dissatisfaction and hostility.
“Who are you? Why are you in Shu Jia’s home?”
Hearing the commotion, I walked out of the bedroom and saw Gu Ze with Lu Ran. I was momentarily stunned, then asked coldly.
“What are you doing here?”
Gu Ze’s hand gripped the doorframe tightly, his eyes fixed on me as he asked in a trembling voice.
“Shu Jia, who is he?”
Thinking of Gu Ze’s recent persistence, the words “he’s my partner” that were about to leave my lips turned into something more ambiguous.
“He’s at my house, who do you think he is?”
With that, I deliberately wrapped my arm around Lu Ran’s and flashed Gu Ze a bright smile.
“I can’t just fall once with you and lock my heart away forever, right? You weren’t entirely wrong before; new people, new experiences, indeed.”
Gu Ze left, devastated.
After the door closed, I quickly let go of Lu Ran’s arm.
“Sorry, I really didn’t want Gu Ze to keep bothering me, so I used you as a shield in a moment of desperation. I hope you don’t mind.”
Lu Ran smiled gently, “It’s okay.”
