Everyone Says I Ride on the Movie King's Fame, Only the Movie King Knows I'm His Creditor - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
I hung up the phone.
Only Shen Yan and I were left in the fire escape.
He held the card out to me.
I didn’t take it.
“Movie King Shen, are you that free tonight?”
“No.”
“Then what the hell are you doing?”
He looked at me.
“I don’t want to watch them curse you anymore.”
I let out a laugh.
“They’ve been cursing me for three months. And you’re only bothered now?”
Shen Yan’s fingers tightened around the card.
“I’m sorry.”
The moment those three words came out, the fire escape fell into an unbearable silence.
I hated it when he apologized.
Because when Shen Yan got serious, I would think of seven years ago.
Back then, I was nineteen, working as an extra in Hengdian.
He was twenty-one. He had just dropped out of film school, carrying a beat-up bag as he waited outside film crews for work.
He was too good-looking. So good-looking that no one dared cast him.
An assistant director once said, “That face looks expensive at a glance. Put him in a crowd of refugees and he won’t look like a refugee.”
That day, Shen Yan had a fever. He was sitting by the road, clutching a hospital payment notice in his hand.
I passed by and asked him, “Are you about to die?”
He looked up at me.
His eyes were very bright.
“Not for the moment.”
I said, “Then go to the hospital.”
He said, “I don’t have money.”
I didn’t have money back then either.
But I had just been paid for stunt-doubling in a web drama. Thirty-eight thousand six hundred yuan.
I had been planning to send it home to help my mom pay off her debts.
In the end, I gave the money to Shen Yan.
He said, “I’ll pay you back.”
I said, “Fine. Remember to include interest.”
Later, he really did survive.
And he really did become famous.
He just never came to pay me back.
Seven years later, we met again on the set of Dark Tide.
I had become the eighteenth-tier nobody accused of clinging to him for clout.
He had become a Movie King with tens of millions of fans, someone who could make the trending searches with the slightest move.
Shen Yan said in a low voice, “I looked for you.”
I lifted my eyes.
“Did you find me?”
“I did.”
“Then why didn’t you pay me back?”
He fell silent.
I answered for him. “Because by then, you’d already signed with Shengxing. The company wouldn’t allow you to have anything to do with an extra. They were afraid it would affect your image.”
Shen Yan’s expression shifted slightly.
I looked at him.
“You don’t need to explain. I knew a long time ago.”
Seven years ago, not long after he recovered, he was signed by his current agency, Shengxing.
I went to see him once.
The receptionist at Shengxing told me to wait.
I waited for three hours.
In the end, the person who came out was his manager, Qin Yue.
Qin Yue gave me a check for fifty thousand yuan.
He said, “It’s not convenient for Shen Yan to see you.”
I didn’t take it.
Because I was too young then. I still thought that when someone owed a debt, they should repay it in person.
Thinking about it now, being young was such a hassle.
Shen Yan said hoarsely, “I didn’t know about that day.”
I smiled.
“Mm. You didn’t know.”
Suddenly, footsteps sounded outside the fire escape.
Someone lowered their voice and said, “Jiang Tang is inside. Get a shot of her and Shen Yan coming out alone, and tomorrow’s trending search is guaranteed.”
My expression darkened.
But Shen Yan was one step faster. He draped his coat over my head.
My vision went black.
“Shen Yan, what are you doing?”
He said quietly, “Don’t show your face.”
The door was pushed open.
A paparazzo shoved a camera lens in.
Shen Yan blocked me behind him, his voice as cold as ice.
“Have you filmed enough?”
