Chapter 6
Ethan quickly clenched the earring in his palm, preventing her from taking a closer look.
But Allison immediately giggled again, “It must be the same style! My uncle’s taste couldn’t be that bad.”
Ethan frowned, “Didn’t your parents teach you? Never underestimate anyone.”
“I’m just stating the facts! She’s only good at academics, but she’s really poor! Being poor is one thing, but why pretend to be so noble and dignified? Wouldn’t it be better to obediently be my little follower-”
“Enough!” Ethan suddenly interrupted sharply, his voice filled with anger.
“Apologize to her.”
“Apologize for what? She’s not even here!”
“Apologize. Don’t make me repeat it a third time.” Ethan’s voice was as cold as ice.
Allison reluctantly pouted, “I’m sorry.”
“Go over there and wait for me. I’ll come over after I handle something.”
Allison had no choice but to sulkily walk to a spot not far away to “stand in punishment.”
Ethan closed the car window, and only then did I dare to straighten up.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t expect her to be so rude.”
“It’s okay, I’m used to it.” My indifferent attitude only made Ethan press his lips tighter.
“…Does she often treat you like this?” he asked, his voice deep.
“Yes, today was actually more restrained.”
“I’m very sorry. I will seriously reprimand her. Regarding the previous misunderstandings, I must also apologize to you. Her parents always tell me that she gets along well with her classmates, never bullies anyone, and certainly doesn’t cheat… I believed them, which was my mistake.”
“I won’t comment on your family’s way of education. Now, let’s talk about that ‘dream.’ Do you also dream about me every night?”
Ethan nodded.
It was indeed a shared dream.
Moreover, it seemed that only when both of us were asleep could we meet each other in the dream.
This also explained why I only dreamt of him at night-because he had a regular schedule and worked intensively during the day.
As for the reason for the dreams, it remained unresolved.
“Maybe now that we’ve talked about it, we won’t dream anymore,” I said optimistically.
“You don’t want to dream about me anymore?” he asked.
“No.”
“Why?”
“I really can’t develop any fondness for your Sterling family.”
Ethan fell silent.
I nudged him, “Your little niece can’t wait any longer, hurry up and get out of the car.”
“Avila,” he gazed at me, his eyes complex, “I’ll ask once more, do you want to get out of the car with me?”
What kind of question is that?
Of course not.
Seeing my firm resistance, Ethan asked again:
“Do you really not want anyone to know there’s some sort of connection between us?”
“Don’t be ridiculous, there’s nothing between us.”
“A connection in dreams is still a connection.”
“At best, we’re just dream buddies, who would openly admit that? You should go, so I can sneak away later.”
Ethan lowered his lashes.
After a long time, he said, “Alright, I understand.”
His lips seemed to curl into a self-mocking smile.
Perhaps I was mistaken.
He opened the car door and led Allison away.
Estimating that they had gone far enough, I cautiously opened the car door to leave.
But as soon as my foot touched the ground.
An astonished gaze from above pinned me to the spot.
I looked up, meeting the incredulous face of Allison, who had returned unexpectedly.
