Chapter 4
Going to bed early was impossible.
Tonight, I still had my part-time night shift at the convenience store.
Allison wasn’t exaggerating.
I could indeed lose the offer and struggle to find a decent job in the short term.
Therefore, saving money to move to another city became crucial.
The convenience store operates 24 hours, and tonight it’s my turn to work.
Standing until six in the morning, I finally clocked out.
But I was utterly exhausted.
My eyelids felt so heavy as if they could stick together at any moment.
No, perhaps I really fell asleep while walking?
Because I saw Ethan Sterling.
A black Maybach was parked on the deserted street, and he was staring at me through the car window.
It was a dream.
It had to be a dream.
I walked straight over, speaking in a dreamlike tone, “Aren’t you supposed to appear only in my dreams at night? It’s already six in the morning, why are you still here?”
From experience, I only dream of him when I sleep at night. Not during the day.
Ethan didn’t speak.
Which was normal because in dreams, no matter what we say, the other person seems unable to hear.
Looking at his restrained and ascetic demeanor, a strange irritation rose within me.
“You say you’re a decent person, but why are you so detestable in reality?”
I reached out to rub his face.
He didn’t resist.
He even patted the leather seat beside him, signaling for me to get in.
Without hesitation, I opened the car door and climbed in, sitting directly on his lap.
This was one of the most familiar positions for us in dreams.
Ethan habitually adjusted his leg position, making me sit more steadily and comfortably.
“Your niece bullies me, the department covers for her, and you cover for her too.
“But you don’t even know what she’s done to me.
“I just accidentally liked the same discounted dress as her, and she cut my dress to pieces.
“She called me shameless for buying fake goods. But how could I recognize those luxury brands? Even affordable alternatives are bought with my frugal savings.”
Ethan’s gaze flickered slightly.
“And now, just because I exposed a fact, you want to use your connections to blacklist me…”
Anyway, the “Ethan” in my dream couldn’t hear,
I poured out my grievances from reality.
Finally, I bit his shoulder hard.
“I don’t want to dream about you anymore, this is the last time.”
Suddenly, Ethan grabbed my arm, with great force.
“No, I don’t agree.”
I was stunned.
How did he start talking?
No, how could I hear him talking?
Wait a minute, my head is spinning-
At that moment, Ethan spoke again, his voice crystal clear:
“Avila Winters, you’re not asleep, this isn’t a dream.”
Simultaneously, the car window was tapped.
“Uncle? Why did you call me here so early in the morning?” Allison grumbled discontentedly.
