Double Betrayal, My Husband and My Best Friend - Chapter 13
City No. 1 Detention Center, visiting room.
Chen Chengjun was brought in by a prison guard.
In just one month, he seemed to have aged ten years.
His once confident and energetic appearance was gone.
All that remained were sunken eye sockets, a messy stubble, and a drab, gray prison uniform.
His back was hunched, his eyes cloudy.
The moment he saw me, a flicker of surprise crossed his face.
“Long time no see, Chen Chengjun,” I smiled faintly, elegantly picking up the receiver.
“Honey, I really didn’t mean to, you know that…”
“Shh,” I made a hushing gesture.
I unhurriedly took a file out of my handbag and showed it to him through the glass.
It was Mei Qing’s medical record.
“Multiple fractures due to injuries from a high fall.
Fetal demise in utero at approximately 14 weeks gestation.
Uterine rupture and massive hemorrhaging, requiring an emergency total hysterectomy.”
“Do you see? The child is gone!”
The foil packets were neatly arranged inside.
“What does that have to do with me?”
He smiled, unconcerned.
“The DNA results came back.”
“It was yours.”
“One hundred percent certain.”
“And I knew everything from the very beginning.”
Chen Chengjun’s face instantly turned ashen, his lips trembling.
His eyes were filled with disbelief and immense terror.
“This is the divorce agreement. I’ve already signed it!”
I didn’t look at his instantly contorted, collapsing face any longer, nor did I listen to the muffled curses and banging sounds coming from behind the glass.
I stood up gracefully, adjusted my impeccable clothes, picked up my handbag, and turned to leave.
Behind me was the desperate wail of a man.
What awaited him was-a ten-year prison sentence for intentional injury causing grievous bodily harm, along with massive civil compensation.
And complete ruin.
