- Disguised as a Man, She Has Eight Men Fighting Over Her
- Chapter 73 - Another Breath, Part 2
“Heh… Hehehe…”
Suddenly, a low, hoarse chuckle sounded in the room.
The edge of the bedsheet stirred.
A man’s face, deathly pale in the darkness, emerged from beneath the bed.
He crawled out and clambered eagerly onto the mattress. In the light slipping through the curtains, he stared at Lin Cheng’s closed eyes.
“Hehehe… Huh?” A note of surprise entered his sickly voice. “Who are you? I didn’t come for you…”
Sweat gathered on the hand gripping the bottle.
The man tilted his head and inhaled greedily, his eyes obsessed and crazed.
“I… I came to see Yu… He should be in this room… I know…”
Shi Yu’s fan?
A stalker fan hiding under the bed?
Shit. Good thing she had taken this room.
“Where did you put him?” His voice turned vicious. “Why are you staying here?”
As he demanded answers, he reached out with both hands, apparently intending to grab her throat.
“Go ask your mom!”
Lin Cheng’s eyes snapped open. She slammed the glass bottle into his head.
Bang!
The glass shattered.
“Aaargh!” Blood immediately ran from his scalp.
But it only enraged him. His eyes grew wilder.
“Where’s Yu? Give me back my Yu! I’ll punish you!”
Roaring, heedless of his injury, he pulled a syringe from his pocket and lunged.
Alarm flashed through Lin Cheng. She grabbed the duvet beside her and flung it over his head.
Disoriented, he faltered.
Using all her strength, she turned into a whipping kick that struck him hard in the lower abdomen.
“Oof!” He staggered into the wall.
She pressed the advantage, launching herself at him in a flurry of punches and kicks, aiming for his vulnerable spots.
She knew she was weaker than him now. She had to finish this quickly.
While he was dazed, she pulled the belt from a hotel bathrobe and bound him.
“Yu… My Yu… Punish…”
Dumped in the corner, he kept muttering incoherently.
Lin Cheng panted. The drug had left her limp all over.
She picked up the phone to call the police.
The man suddenly raised his bloody face.
“Hehehe… You dare call the cops? My buddy will be here any minute. Call them… and he’ll kill you…”
An accomplice?
Her eyelids drooping, Lin Cheng glanced at the syringe on the floor and bent to pick it up.
“Your buddy?”
She walked over, pushed the needle into his arm, and injected the liquid.
“Then let him come collect your body.”
“You…!”
He struggled a few times. Seconds later, his eyes rolled back and he passed out.
Only Lin Cheng’s heavy breathing remained.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
Someone was at the door.
She half narrowed her eyes toward the sound and licked the corner of her mouth.
The accomplice?
The drug was still working, but the surge of adrenaline had her keyed up too.
She picked up a shard of glass and stood barefoot behind the door.
Click.
She opened it. Light from the corridor spread gradually across the dim entryway as the door swung wider.
Several seconds passed before the visitor stepped inside.
Through her blurred vision, she saw only a tall figure.
She lunged, sweeping the glass toward the side of his neck.
His reaction was astonishingly fast.
The instant the shard flashed, he turned aside to protect his neck and caught her wrist. The glass fell from her hand.
Her attack failed. A fresh wave of the drug left her dizzy, but instinct still drove her to raise a knee.
A breeze passed through the corridor.
A familiar sandalwood scent, damp with rain, reached her nose.
That smell…
Every bristling defense in her softened.
She reached out and pulled the man toward the doorway.
In the corridor light, she finally saw his face.
“C-Captain…?”
Beneath the brim was Jiang Si’s cool, handsome face.
Her voice was weak. Her legs gave way, and she nearly sank to the floor.
His arm tightened, gathering her against him. With his other hand, he pressed the switch on the wall.
The room was a wreck.
When he saw the unfamiliar man bound and unconscious in the corner, his face covered in blood, the atmosphere around Jiang Si turned frighteningly cold.
“What happened?” His voice was ice.
“He was under the bed… There was something in the drink…” Lin Cheng leaned against him and spoke softly. “He was going to use a syringe… on me…”
His dark, hawklike eyes narrowed. He scooped her into his arms.
“Don’t be afraid. You’re safe now.”
He glanced down at her, and the tips of his ears abruptly reddened.
Her eyelids were flushed, her voice touched with tears. She looked fragile and vulnerable in a way she rarely did.
And she hadn’t used her usual imitation of a male voice. This was her own delicate voice, soft and sweet as water.
She wasn’t wearing her binder, either.
His prominent throat moved almost imperceptibly.
Was he dying?
Why was his heart beating this fast?
He carried her to a clean part of the bed and set her down. As he moved her, he could plainly feel her abnormal body heat.
“Wait a moment. I’ll be quick.”
Eyes half closed, Lin Cheng murmured assent.
Jiang Si turned, crossed to the unconscious stalker fan, and stepped on his bound wrist.
“Aaargh!”
The sharp pain brought the man around.
Jiang Si bent and seized his hair, forcing his head up. There was a chilling violence in his face.
“Talk. Who sent you? What was in the drink?”
Meeting his eyes, the stalker fan faltered, but still gave a vicious grin.
“Hehehe… A new muscle relaxant. Combine it with citrus… and the side effects get stronger. Raises the body temperature…”
“I paid a lot for it. It was for Yu… Hehehe…”
Jiang Si’s eyes hardened. He pressed down again.
Crack.
Bone snapped with a crisp sound. The man passed out once more.
Releasing his hair in disgust, Jiang Si took out his phone.
“Moxi Hotel, room 2108. Deal with the man. Leave it clean.”
He hung up and returned to the bed.
Lin Cheng’s gaze was losing focus, her eyes shining with moisture, but she still struggled to look at him.
“Captain… How… how come you’re here?”
He bent to pick her up, then paused.
“Passing through.”
Her sluggish mind couldn’t work it out. In a daze, she said, “Oh.”
“What a coincidence.”
Holding her, Jiang Si closed the door and opened the room next door. In his arms, she kept turning her head restlessly, rubbing against his neck.
Her small, upturned nose brushed his skin, teasing his nerves with every movement.
“Lin Cheng…”
Without raising her head, she answered softly, “Shh. You’re so cool here. Let me nuzzle a little…”
