Demonic King of the Metropolis - Chapter 89 - Trouble at the Bar
“I didn’t expect she had such unhappy things too,” Wang Qianya said after listening to Tang Jie’s story. With a girl’s naturally sensitive nature, she immediately understood why Chen Shuran was drinking. Since her own parents were supportive, she lost any jealousy towards Chen Shuran and instead felt a sense of sympathy.
“What about you? Why did you suddenly come back? Your dad…” Tang Jie recalled Wang Qianya’s situation, thinking she wouldn’t return to this city. He had felt a sense of regret, a kind of indescribable… emptiness.
“Guess,” Wang Qianya replied playfully, a mischievous smile lighting up her face.
“I can’t guess. Did your dad agree to let you come back to school?” Tang Jie said casually, thinking back to the incident when Wang Qianya was poisoned. After that, her parents had been against her going out again, so her sudden return must have meant they had given her permission.
“That’s not it, but you’re not entirely wrong either,” Wang Qianya continued to stare at Tang Jie, her eyes sparkling with a captivating light.
“I don’t know. Just tell me,” Tang Jie said, feeling a bit exhausted after being worn out by Chen Shuran for so long.
Unexpectedly, upon hearing this, the smile vanished from Wang Qianya’s face. She seemed a little disappointed and looked at Tang Jie, saying, “You really don’t know why I came back?”
Tang Jie was confused and thought girls’ emotions changed so quickly. Just moments ago, she was happy, and now, one wrong word from him made her unhappy. Still, no matter what, he felt happy seeing Wang Qianya.
“I really can’t guess. Just tell me what you’ve been doing lately,” Tang Jie asked, sensing her concern for him, which brought a smile back to her face.
“I came back to see you, and I’m leaving in a couple of days,” Wang Qianya said. Tang Jie felt a bit disappointed, thinking she would stay to continue her studies.
“I have something else I want to ask you about while I’m back,” Wang Qianya said, her expression turning serious.
“What is it?” Tang Jie perked up. If Wang Qianya needed his help, he definitely wouldn’t refuse.
Wang Qianya, after hearing Tang Jie, stood up and walked to the door of Chen Shuran’s room. Seeing that she was still fast asleep, she gently closed the door and then approached Tang Jie, saying, “Let’s talk in your room.”
Tang Jie looked at Wang Qianya, indicating he had no objections. Once they entered his room, Wang Qianya carefully closed the door. Tang Jie found her mysterious demeanor a bit strange.
After ensuring no one would overhear, Wang Qianya finally revealed the reason for her return.
It turned out that the Wang family had a longstanding feud with another ancient martial arts family many years ago. The Wang family possessed an ancestral book that contained a secret method for ancient martial artist cultivation. Everyone in the family had inherited the techniques from that book, and over the years, they had all become masters in the ancient martial arts world.
However, the ancient martial arts manual had been stolen, and the thief began practicing the methods within it to create trouble for others, framing the Wang family in the process. This had caused the Wang couple a great deal of distress. They secretly sent people to search for the thief but always felt there was a powerful organization obstructing them. Whenever they had a lead, trouble would arise, causing their investigation to stall.
“You’re back to find the person who stole the book?” Tang Jie asked after hearing Wang Qianya’s explanation, starting to understand her intentions.
What he didn’t know was that Wang Qianya’s parents did not agree with her looking for the thief. In reality, she wanted to find an opportunity to see Tang Jie, using the search for the thief as an excuse to persuade her parents to let her come out.
“That’s right, but it’s not only that,” Wang Qianya said, gazing at Tang Jie, her bright eyes filled with warmth, leaving him somewhat flustered.
“Have you found any clues?” Tang Jie continued to ask.
“I’ve discovered that the book had previously appeared in the Chen family. But you know how powerful the Chen family is. I can’t handle it on my own, so I want to ask for your help.”
Hearing the mention of the Chen family, Tang Jie immediately thought of Chen Feng, Chen Yin, and Chen Nan. Last time, he had almost been defeated by Chen Nan-if his master hadn’t shown up, he might not have survived. With this in mind, Tang Jie felt it was indeed dangerous for Wang Qianya to take this on alone.
“I’ll help you with this matter, but you have to promise me not to search alone. I’ll investigate quietly when I have the time. Once I have some leads, you can inform your parents so they can send someone to assist.”
Tang Jie looked at Wang Qianya, feeling an urge to protect her from any harm. He was currently focused on looking after Chen Shuran and couldn’t get away. If Wang Qianya insisted on searching for the thief alone and encountered someone from the Chen family, she would undoubtedly face difficulties.
Moreover, if the Chen family truly was behind the theft, their intentions would definitely be more complicated than they seemed.
“Are you worried about me?” Wang Qianya asked as she leaned closer to Tang Jie, her eyes fixed on his, waiting for his response.
Tang Jie was momentarily taken aback by her proximity and almost blurted out, “If I don’t care about you, who will?” But he quickly realized that such a response would be too direct. He knew he had feelings for Wang Qianya; that much he was certain. However, this wasn’t the right time to express that, especially since he couldn’t guarantee his own future or make any commitments to her.
“You should care! Have you forgotten the precious gift your parents sent me?” Tang Jie said with a playful grin, showing off his armor.
“Just because you received a gift, you think that’s a reason for you to care about me? If I hadn’t given you anything, would you not care at all?” Wang Qianya replied with a hint of displeasure. Her gaze wandered pointedly toward Chen Shuran’s room. After all, Tang Jie had been fetching water and wiping Chen Shuran’s face. Wasn’t that the duty of a bodyguard?
“I would still care, we’re friends, aren’t we?” Tang Jie was starting to feel a headache coming on. He suddenly thought that Wang Qianya was even more difficult to deal with than Chen Shuran. He couldn’t help but wonder how many times he would be challenged if he actually married Wang Qianya in the future.
It wasn’t until eight o’clock in the evening that Chen Shuran finally stirred, the effects of the alcohol wearing off. Upon seeing Wang Qianya, who had suddenly returned, she paused for a moment, then her expression shifted in a way that was hard to describe. As she caught sight of Tang Jie and Wang Qianya sitting together on the couch, she walked toward the living room doorway but then silently turned back.
Wang Qianya, quick to notice that Chen Shuran was awake, stood up and walked into her room. Moments later, Tang Jie could hear laughter coming from inside. He leaned back on the sofa, sighed, and felt somewhat speechless.
Before long, Wang Qianya emerged, a smile on her face. Tang Jie glanced toward Chen Shuran’s room, silently asking Wang Qianya how she was doing.
“We’re going out to have some fun later, and I’ll treat tonight,” Wang Qianya winked at Tang Jie. Just then, he heard the sound of Chen Shuran going into the bathroom. The thought of being accompanied by two beautiful girls in a crowded place made Tang Jie feel a rush of excitement. A smile spread across his face as he embraced the thrilling prospect.
“What are you thinking? When we go out, you must protect both of us; otherwise, you’ll have to face our punishment tonight,” Wang Qianya said, noticing the dreamy look on Tang Jie’s face and quickly dousing his enthusiasm with a splash of cold water. Surprisingly, Tang Jie felt quite happy about it.
“Punishment? What kind of punishment are we talking about?” Tang Jie couldn’t help but joke. Just then, Wang Qianya stood up as if to hit him. At that moment, Chen Shuran walked out of her room, dressed in a clean outfit. She caught sight of the playful interaction between the two, and a fleeting look of jealousy crossed her face.
“You’re ready, then let’s head out,” Wang Qianya said, retracting her hand and quickly moving to pull Chen Shuran along, ignoring Tang Jie as they both stepped out the door.
Tang Jie watched the two beauties in their flowing dresses-their slender figures, tall statures, and alluring curves. Sighing, he thought to himself that if he were rich one day, having two wives like them would be more than enough for this lifetime.
With these delightful fantasies in mind, Tang Jie followed them out.
As Chen Shuran and Wang Qianya walked in front, he noticed they seemed to be whispering about something. Wang Qianya would occasionally glance back at him, seemingly gossiping about him, while Chen Shuran would laugh gaily, appearing to have completely forgotten her earlier sadness.
Tang Jie was used to their antics and simply followed behind, enjoying the pleasant view of their beauty.
When they reached the entrance, Wang Qianya waved down a taxi. Once they were inside, she told the driver to take them to Passion Bar. As soon as Tang Jie heard the name, a chill ran down his spine, and he felt a sudden wave of unease wash over him.
Not that place again! He had just expended all his energy bringing one of them back. Was he expected to bring back two this time? Oh, heavens, spare him!
Wang Qianya seemed to catch wind of Tang Jie’s disappointment and teased, “What’s wrong? Do you not want to go? If you don’t, you can get out; I can take care of Shuran.”
“Of course I want to go! Who said I didn’t?” Tang Jie laughed brightly, glancing at the two beauties, thinking to himself that worst case, he’d just carry them both back, directly to bed, and then… give them a cold shower to see if they dared to get drunk again.
“What are you thinking, Tang Jie?” Wang Qianya remarked, eyeing him suspiciously as if she could read his mind. With a playful pout, she called out to him, “You better not be up to any mischief!”
Tang Jie quickly turned his head, pretending nothing was amiss. He found it peculiar how Wang Qianya seemed to know what he was thinking, as if she were a mind reader. If he even had the slightest questionable thought, she was immediately aware.
This was truly dangerous. If he ever married her, he’d definitely need to learn how to lie.
