Demonic King of the Metropolis - Chapter 77 - Sudden Confession
All afternoon, Tang Jie had been dozing off at his desk. During the last class, the class teacher, Jin Yan, assigned some homework and announced the end of the school day. As soon as Tang Jie heard her voice, he stood up and was ready to leave.
After taking a few steps, he suddenly felt a pair of resentful eyes on him. When he turned around, he saw it was Chen Shuran.
Tang Jie quickly smiled at Chen Shuran, trying to make his smile bright and pleading.
“School’s over, let’s go back.”
Hearing Tang Jie say “we,” Chen Shuran’s expression softened a little. She had intended to have a good chat with him during lunch. After not seeing him for days, she found herself unable to control her thoughts about him. She even spaced out during class, which led to the teacher calling on her several times, something that had never happened before.
However, Tang Jie disappointed her. When he returned for lunch, he just lay on the desk to sleep, and he hadn’t spoken to her at all throughout the afternoon, making her heart ache.
Could it be that Tang Jie no longer had her in his heart? Or was it because Wang Qianya had left, that his heart… followed her away?
Watching Chen Shuran dawdle as she packed her bag, Tang Jie couldn’t understand what was going on with her. By now, it was just the two of them left in the classroom; Xiao Ran had already left. Tang Jie wanted to tell Chen Shuran to hurry up when suddenly Uncle Zhao’s call came in.
“Where are you? Why aren’t you out yet?”
“We’re still in the classroom, we’ll be out soon, Uncle Zhao.”
After hanging up, Chen Shuran heard Uncle Zhao’s call and stopped hesitating. However, she didn’t wait for Tang Jie and instead left the classroom by herself, a pouting expression clearly visible on her pretty face.
Tang Jie had no choice but to quickly catch up. Once outside, he saw Uncle Zhao’s car parked at the entrance. Just as he intended to open the door for Chen Shuran, she unexpectedly opened it herself and got in. Tang Jie couldn’t help but furrow his brows; he found her young miss attitude today quite baffling. He thought to himself, whatever, since she likes to be upset, he wouldn’t bother her for now, especially since he hadn’t done anything wrong to her.
Just as he thought this, Tang Jie pulled open the front door to get in, and out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a car parked not far away. Turning to look, he realized it was the same SUV that had left earlier at lunchtime, and it seemed like there were eyes watching him from inside.
“What’s wrong, Tang?”
Uncle Zhao, sitting in the driver’s seat, noticed Tang Jie looking back and curiously asked.
“Nothing, let’s go.”
As Tang Jie settled into the passenger seat and closed the door, he noticed Uncle Zhao, seemingly concerned, glanced back. He saw the SUV start up and leave as soon as Uncle Zhao turned his head.
“Uncle Zhao, did nothing happen while I was gone?”
Once the car started, Tang Jie looked at Uncle Zhao and asked, wondering why Chen Shuran seemed so angry with him-surely someone must have been bothering her?
“Nothing happened, why?” Uncle Zhao didn’t understand what Tang Jie meant, thinking he was asking if anyone had been looking for him. These past few days had been peaceful for Tang Jie, but he wasn’t sure about the troubles Uncle Zhao might have faced.
“Oh, that’s good to hear.”
Tang Jie discreetly glanced at Chen Shuran in the back seat. He noticed she had been keeping her head down since getting in, looking like a neglected wife-clearly, this night wasn’t going to go well for him…
He sighed inwardly, suddenly recalling the black SUV and the words the buzz cut had told him-8 PM at the city center stadium. Should he go or not? Who exactly were they referring to as the boss?
While he pondered these thoughts, the car quickly arrived downstairs at Chen Shuran’s house. Uncle Zhao watched as Tang Jie and Chen Shuran got out, waving at them from the car window.
“Tang, if you need anything, just give me a call. If you need the car, let me know, and I’ll come right away.”
“Got it, Uncle Zhao, thank you.”
Tang Jie waved goodbye to Uncle Zhao and then followed the silent Chen Shuran. As he walked, he continued to consider whether or not to attend the meeting with the boss that night.
Absorbed in his thoughts, Tang Jie wasn’t paying attention to where he was walking when he suddenly bumped into something soft and fragrant. Rubbing his nose, which had gotten hurt, he realized that the soft object was actually Chen Shuran, who had abruptly stopped right in front of him. She had turned around, making the sudden collision happen.
Tang Jie looked innocent as he rubbed his nose and then glanced at Chen Shuran’s chest, feeling a flush of embarrassment. To his surprise, despite her slender figure, there was a surprising fullness there.
Chen Shuran glared at him with her almond-shaped eyes, realizing Tang Jie was staring at her chest. Her face turned bright red.
“What are you looking at, you perverted wolf!”
She huffed angrily and turned to run away. Tang Jie quickly reacted and chased after her.
“Hey! Who are you calling a pervert? Be clear, it’s you who bumped into me with that part of your body and then call me a…”
As he chased her, Tang Jie deliberately raised his voice to complain, clearly teasing her.
Hearing his loud protest, Chen Shuran stopped and turned to look at him, her face even redder. “You…”
Tang Jie beamed with a bright smile, revealing a perfect set of white teeth. He looked at Chen Shuran, whose face was flushed with anger, and unabashedly said, “You look really beautiful when you’re mad. Don’t move-just stand there and let me look at you for a bit. I’ll let you go in once I’ve had my fill.”
“Bang!”
A bag flew through the air toward Tang Jie’s face. He quickly stopped laughing and caught it; it was Chen Shuran’s backpack. After catching it, he looked at Chen Shuran and pretended to clutch his chest, feigning shock. “Are you trying to kill me, or are you plotting to…”
He hesitated to say “kill your husband,” feeling a little embarrassed and just smiled instead.
Chen Shuran, however, wasn’t going to let him off the hook. She glared at Tang Jie and pressed, “Plot to do what? Go on…”
Hearing her so inquisitive, Tang Jie, with no care left, continued to shamelessly tease her. “What do you think I’m plotting? Someone who doesn’t know any better might think you were plotting to murder your husband!”
At this, Chen Shuran’s face suddenly flushed with color, and her dark, sparkling eyes seemed to shimmer. Tang Jie looked at her, feeling she was truly beautiful at that moment.
“Fortunately, we’re not that kind of relationship,” Tang Jie added, and as soon as he said this, he noticed the charming glow in Chen Shuran’s face fade away, replaced by a look of embarrassment and anger. It was as if she had taken offense. She stared at him for a long time, then, biting her lip, turned and walked away without a word.
Watching her retreat, Tang Jie felt a sudden discomfort, but he couldn’t pinpoint why. After reflecting for a moment, he realized that perhaps he had misspoken, but it was just a joke. Did Chen Shuran take it seriously?
Once back at the villa, Chen Shuran locked herself in her room. Tang Jie lingered in the living room for a while, puzzling over what had just happened. Everything seemed fine during lunch; why was it like this now? Forget it; he decided not to dwell on it. Maybe the temperament of a young miss was just this fickle.
With those thoughts in mind, Tang Jie returned to his own room, changed into a clean set of clothes, and prepared for a hot bath. When he entered the bathroom, Chen Shuran’s door remained firmly shut.
Tang Jie filled the bathtub with water, stripped off his clothes, and sank into the warmth. The hot water enveloped him, opening up all his pores. The feeling of comfort was undeniable, and the fatigue of recent days seemed to disappear in an instant. He couldn’t help but close his eyes slightly, ready to savor this wonderful moment.
After he had his eyes shut for a while, he suddenly heard faint sounds from the door lock. Tang Jie opened his eyes and glanced toward the door, just catching a glimpse of a figure flitting past-likely Chen Shuran. With this thought, he closed his eyes again.
The warm water in the bathtub continued to flow, and soon the entire bathroom was enveloped in a gentle steam. Tang Jie gradually began to feel drowsy, and as he relaxed, an image of Wang Qianya’s delicate face floated into his mind-her bright, sparkling eyes seemed to be looking right at him with a smile. Suddenly, in his imagination, Wang Qianya reached out with her soft, snake-like arms, wrapping them around his neck. He instantly felt a cool, slick sensation, and with her movement, a dizzy feeling spread through his head.
Her delicate hands slowly explored his shoulders, beginning to knead gently.
“Is it comfortable?”
Her soft voice sounded like a gentle drizzle, accompanied by a faint, captivating fragrance. Tang Jie was lost in this beautiful fantasy, unwilling to open his eyes.
“I like it.”
“Do you want me to use a bit more pressure?” Wang Qianya’s voice chimed in again, sweet and soothing. Tang Jie, not wanting to interrupt, nodded repeatedly and let a look of enjoyment spread across his closed eyes.
As the pressure on his shoulders increased, Tang Jie felt a twinge of pain, but the next moment brought a wave of comfort, as if all the tension in his body was unwinding.
“Qianya, when did you learn to massage?” he asked absentmindedly, but just then, the pressure on his shoulders vanished. He blinked and suddenly opened his eyes wide.
Looking at the empty bathroom, he felt a pang of regret for having interrupted his blissful dream with that question.
Ah… it was so wonderful, how could it just end like that? Just as Tang Jie was about to close his eyes again and lie back down, he suddenly sensed something wasn’t right. It felt like something was behind him, sending a chill down his spine.
Could there be… a ghost here?
Tang Jie trembled and turned his head, and as he glimpsed the “thing” standing behind him, he shrieked and nearly jumped out of the bathtub.
“Y-You… when did you come in?”
