Chapter 1
Jiang Ciyue had once again taken the piece of jewelry I wanted.
That very evening, the necklace appeared around the neck of Qu Yi’s little dog.
Qu Yi’s social media post was clearly pointed:
“Some women, you know, live a life worse than a dog’s.”
It was an obvious jab at me.
Furious, I commented below her post:
“Who can compete with you? You live like a clucking hen.”
Less than two minutes after I posted the comment, Jiang Ciyue’s call came through.
His voice was as cold as ice. “Shi Wan Ju, apologize to Yi Yi.”
I was simmering with rage. “No,” I refused.
Immediately, I heard Qu Yi’s pathetic whimpering on the other end.
“I just thought Dou Dou looked so happy with the necklace on, so I took a picture to remember it. I don’t know how I upset Sister Wan Ju again.”
“Ciyue, it’s okay if Sister Wan Ju doesn’t want to apologize. Please don’t blame her.”
“It’s not the first time she’s insulted me, anyway. I’m used to it. I can just bear it.”
His sweetheart was crying her eyes out, and Jiang Ciyue’s heart ached for her. He gave me a stern ultimatum.
“If you don’t apologize to Yi Yi today, you’ll face the consequences.”
He was always like this. Even when Qu Yi was the one who provoked me, he would side with her without a moment’s hesitation.
A bitter taste filled my mouth, but I refused to show weakness. “I won’t apologize,” I said stubbornly. “She deserved to be insulted.”
Before Jiang Ciyue could lash out again, I hung up the phone.
But the suffocating anger in my heart refused to dissipate.
